COCOCOZY RUGS ON DISPLAY - A TEAR JERKING MOMENT!

COCOCOZY rug display at the Capel showroom in High Point, NC (above)

So I cried yesterday.  I cried in a public place.   Right in the middle of several people.  Here's why.

Yesterday was the debut of the COCOCOZY for Capel Rugs collection here in High Point, NC.
Cameron Capel - grand daughter of the founder of Capel Rugs - took me into the showroom at Market Square with showroom manager Ron Bristow, Deanne O'Connor and Capel President John Magee.  When I first saw the display I was bowled over with joy...giggling, laughing, ooohing and ahhhing.  I chittered and chattered with glee.  I was so happy!  This went on for about 10 minutes.

Then all of a sudden I looked over to my left and I saw a COCOCOZY for Capel Rugs sign pasted onto the showroom window....and that is when I started to cry.

It was overwhelming in a wonderful way.  Here I am, just a normal girl, who started blogging 5 years ago...standing in the middle of a posh showroom with an entire collection of 24 luxury rugs staring at me...and the brand name I made up late one night in my kitchen years ago (COCOCOZY) staring right back at me too...larger than life.  It was a moment.

I know there will be many more ups and downs on this journey I am taking with COCOCOZY.  I am prepared for that.  I've learned a lot about myself...becoming a business owner and all...I hope I've helped you all learn a bit and get inspired too.  So many of the moments I have spent dealing with the twists and turns of running a business have been challenging...some of them lows...some of them were so confusing.

Yesterday, though, was a moment that I did take to pause...I paused and was thankful for all of the wonderful people I've worked with and met along the way.  I was also overcome with emotion.  So I cried right there in public.  A good cry.  A happy cry. A very happy cry.

Heading back to Los Angeles later today.  More from High Point tomorrow!

Happy Tuesday!

COCOCOZY FOR CAPEL RUGS - COLLECTION PREVIEW!

Was thrilled to wake up today to a trade press article announcing my collaboration with Capel Rugs on the first COCOCOZY Rug Collection of luxury wool Indo Tibetan hand knotted rugs!

Here is the  article from Home Accents Today - a to-the-trade and home furnishings industry publication.

In January, in New York, I debut just 5 rugs at the New York trade show.  Well yesterday, I got photos of all 24 rugs in the collection from the nice DO at Capel.  Here are just a few of the COCOCOZY rugs that you have not yet seen. Am loving all of them...so each day for the next week or so, I'll sneak peek a few images of the rugs.

I'll be going to High Point, NC a week from Monday to show the full collection at the Capel showroom there!  Capel is throwing a cocktail party for me and the rugs.  I think people will be more interested in seeing the rugs than me...but am so so so excited!

The first 5 rugs that I showed in January are already on the COCOCOZY Shop site.   The rugs will deliver in late May or June.

The full rug collection will be up on the COCOCOZY shop, the Capel website and in stores around the country very soon!

Please let me know what you think!

Happy Thursday again!

INTRODUCING COCOCOZY for CAPEL RUGS - SAMPLE PREVIEW!

COCOCOZY wool rug
COCOCOZY for Capel Rugs - Oxford Rug in Navy (Tibetan hand knotted wool rug) (above)

So...over the last 6 months, I've been alluding to and mentioning partnerships that I've been working on for COCOCOZY.

Today I am thrilled to announce a collaboration and a new COCOCOZY collection that we are bringing to market.

COCOCOZY for Capel Rugs! COCOCOZY rugs are going to market in 2013!  I'm still pinching myself.

These are pictures of the samples of COCOCOZY hand knotted wool Tibetan rugs that will be in stores this year!  We just got these 5'x8' samples in a few weeks ago and now I will be showing them at the New York International Gift Fair in less than two weeks! The rugs will come in other sizes and colors too.

Established in North Carolina in 1917, Capel Rugs is the oldest privately owned rug manufacturer and importer in the United States. Capel is known for their traditional classic braided rugs that are made at their mill in North Carolina.

Most recenlty, Capel has  some fantastic rug collaborations including their latest with television personality and designer Genevieve Gorder. They also do a fabulous line with textile designer Kevin O'Brien.

Here's the short version of the story on how this all started...

Over a year ago, a very smart and sharp Tami Watras, the Vice President and Creative Director of Capel Rugs approached me and COCOCOZY to talk about rugs. Tami sent me a nice email saying she would like to meet.

A few weeks later in July 2011, Tami came by the Atlanta market with Capel Rugs president John Magee and Vice President John Harrison to view my pillow collection. I remember meeting them and thinking, "Wow they look so official, they seem really nice and this is serious stuff!". I was right on all fronts.

It was after that meeting, the rug games began.

As my fab agent SM (I think I mentioned I have Hollywood type agent...or did I?) was negotiaing  the deal, my dear and sweet angel best of friend AM met me for a day trip to North Carolina where we rented a big SUV and drove to the Capel headquarters in Troy.  We were going to Capel to see if this was a deal I wanted to do for COCOCOZY.

While in Troy, we also got to meet the fantastic Cameron Capel, Vice President at Capel and whose grandfather founded the company.  During that sit down with the Capel team, there was instant chemistry...we had a shared vision as to what the rug collection could look like and more importantly we all had such a great time getting to know each other.   On the drive back to the airport, AM who had her nose stuck in the Capel catalog (shopping of course), simply said "You should do this deal.  They are great.  Do it."  That is where it all began.

So a year and half later, after several meetings, swatches, samples and designs going back and forth, here are a few of the designs and colorways in the first COCOCOZY rug collection!

Take a look...please let me know which you like best.

So...now I have to decide which of these rugs I'll show in the COCOCOZY booth in NYC in two weeks. Again...I need your help. So many decisions. So little time until New York market!

Would love to hear your thoughts on these rugs. Please. Be honest...what do you like, what don't you like and which do you think I should show?

Happy Monday!

THIS OR THAT: STRIPE TYPES FOR RUGS!

living room modern orange accents, black and white striped rug, white sectional sofa, white bookcase full of books and french doors
Stripe Type 1 - A bold black and white stripe rug in a modern living room provides lots of visual interest. (above)

I like a nice striped rug in a living space. I think stripes are always a classic. Not all stripes are alike however.

In today's THIS OR THAT, I bring you 4 living rooms with 4 different stripe rugs on the floor...you decide which of these striped rugs looks best!  Pick your "Stripe Type"!

library with white built in bookshelves, black and white striped rug, velvet wing back armchairs, round wooden table, black wall with white floor length curtains
Stripe Type 2 - A library reading area in a home features built in book shelves, gray velvet upholstered wing back chairs and a black and white rug to finish off the decor. (above)

living room with blue and white striped rug, white couch with navy and bird printed accent pillows, two ottomans with blue trellis acting like side tables, and a woven ottoman coffee table
Stripe Type 3 - A woven ottoman sits atop a blue and white stripe rug in this cozy living room.(above)

den with plaid walls and a striped rug with exposed beams, leather chairs, fireplace with a trumeau mirror on the mantel
Stripe Type 4 - Wide stripes on a dark blue and white rug, plaid walls, worn in leather chairs, and a large stone mantel combine to make a cozy living room in this French home. (above)
I am liking Stripe Type 2 and Stripe Type 4 the best I think.  These flat weave rugs seem to blend well with their respective spaces...also the color and tone soften the bold stripe pattern.

Soooo...which of these Stripe Types do you like best? Do you even like a stripe rug?

Please weigh in on the comments below.

Happy Thursday!

P.S.  Had a lovely dinner at Cecconi's here in West Hollywood last night.  Had their truffle pizza for the first time.  Can I say awesome?!?  The restaurant is just beautiful in the evening with all of the sparkle lights on the patio.  Check out COCOCOZY Instagram to see the photo I took.

Nbaynadamas DESIGN FIND: DWELLING ON A NEW CHEVRON RUG!

multicolored brown, blue and taupe chevron rug by Dwell Studio

The cool thing when you show at the New York International Gift Fair is your neighbors.  So many cool people behind the brands to get to know including my friends from Brahms Mount (fab cotton and wool blankets), Pom Pom at Home (gorgeous bed linens - one of my favorites), Home Source (wonderful bamboo sheets), Zicci Bea (stylish one stop bedding), Graced with Lace and Marigot (lovely pajamas and lounge wear) just to name a few.

The other cool thing at the New York International Gift Fair is that sometimes your neighbors will allow you to order what buyers get to order.

I was lucky that happened in this case...with Dwell Studio.  Dwell Studio was on my same row at the fair and every day I had to pass by this cute rug.  Finally on the last day...just a half hour before the fair closed I ran up to the Dwell lady, panting..."I want that rug...I want that rug...!"  I now have that rug.  Waiting for it to be delivered in October.  Woohoo!  From what I understand...this rug is brand new to their collection.

A multicolored chevron rug - love a good zig zag rug.  It is a wool flat weave I believe and I bought it in a 5'x8'.  Though I have no idea where it will go in my tiny little cottage in the Hollywood Hills (and need to keep it out of reach of my rug shoe anything on the floor eating 15lb Chin Poo (Japanese Chin Poodle Mix) named Mr. Boo)...I thought the brown, blue and taupe color might go somewhere in my house.  I'll figure it out I'm sure.

So cute!

What do you think of this rug?  Would you have taken it or left it?  If you take is your answer, where might it work in your own home?

Happy Tuesday!

SMART DESIGN: WOVEN PLASTIC RUGS!

Brita Sweden rug in a foyer with a rustic door and powder blue wooden chair

I barely had a moment to walk around the New York International Gift Fair because we were so busy at the Nbaynadamas booth. I did, however, get a chance to breeze upstairs for a bit and came across these cool plastic washable rugs from Brita Sweden. Love these multifunctional stylish rugs. What is cool is that you can arrange a group of them in any configuration you want to create a good looking pattern on your floor. I like these. I should have gotten a few! Should have, would have, could have!

At airport in Dallas now...leaving after a fun Super Bowl weekend. Please see Nbaynadamas Twitter to see photos from my night at Cowboy stadium (if you can believe, I managed to find some cool design elements inside a football stadium!)!

Happy Monday!

CHEAP TO CHIC: ADD MORE TO THE FLOOR WITH A STRIKING STRIPED WOOL RUG!

Bedroom with four poster bed and brown and cream striped rug
Photo: Elle Decor
A four poster bed in a Timothy Whealon designed room sits atop a brown and off white striped rug with an interesting drop step pattern. (above)

Uber chic San Francisco friend JO asked me the other day what I thought was "in" in home decor. Huh...it was like a pop quiz. In a moment though, without thought I said "interesting graphic patterns on floors and texture on ceilings". There. I said it. The "in" thing in my view is adding great interest to your floors and/or texture, color or even pattern to your ceiling. You can leave a room pretty much bare but let the floor do the talking.

Was at a party a few weeks back and I saw a fantastic striped rug at a friend's house...in a bedroom. I LOVE this rug. The guest room was simple...all white, a great antique twin bed, a lucite chair somewhere or another, a little desk and this great drop step pattern striped rug. This friend is quite posh so I know she chose the more expensive version of this rug...

But in today's CHEAP TO CHIC, I give you options for a fabulous flat weave wool striped rug at two price points...hard to tell the difference I think...except in price!

What do you think of this striped rug? Just know...j'adore...but it is okay if you think otherwise.

Happy Wednesday!
