KITCHEN WEEK: GRAY TRADITIONAL WITH A LEMON TWIST!

KITCHEN WEEK day 5 is really courtesy of Pinterest.  Pinterest is like Facebook to me.  You go on to do one thing and then you end up endlessly wandering through all kinds of photos on other peoples pages. The other day I was on Facebook leaving a comment on best of friend AM's wall wishing her a happy birthday and somehow through clicking here and there, I ended up in some random persons wedding photos!  Oy vey.

Anyhooooo...I found this kitchen while randomly browsing through Pinterest.  Somehow it led me to Willow Decor blog and to these fabulous photos taken by photographer James Salomon of a kitchen designed by Bronwyn Huffard of Huffard House Interiors.

Love this traditional kitchen in Maine....with it's backsplash featuring a Swiss flag like white and gray cross painted backsplash under the stainless hood and above the range.   Love the industrial pendant lights over the kitchen island, the white marble counters, the large windows flanking the stove and most of all, the lemon yellow pocket door leading to the pantry!  Very nice.

A classic kitchen with a twist!

Happy Friday!

P.S. Have today off from regular job...am heading to my tiny cottage in the Hollywood Hills to meet the closet installers and the painters. Have chosen a great gray/blue color for my little den. Some Benjamin Moore color...but I've forgotten what it is called already! Yikes.

KITCHEN WEEK - GEOMETRIC BACKSPLASH!

small white kitchen light blue wallpaper geometric pattern stainless hood integrated cooktop cook bright

This week is KITCHEN WEEK on COCOCOZY!  During this week, I'll bring you kitchens I like and some design ideas that you can easily incorporate into your kitchen whether you live in a grand mansion or a cute small city apartment and for all of the houses and homes in between.

First off, on day 1 of KITCHEN WEEK, here is a fab feature wall in this adorable modern small kitchen.  Can't really tell if this is a mosaic tile or wallpaper.  Can you?

Either way, I like the light blue graphic diamond pattern used as a backsplash of sorts behind the sleek white flat front cabinets.  Adds an element of design and visual interest to an otherwise neutral space.

Anyone know where this fab wallpaper or tile comes from?

light blue diamond pattern wallpaper wall white modern kitchen flat front cabinet doors cabinets cabinetry

Pulled some wallpaper patterns that might work below.

Cole & Son - Labyrinth Wallpaper (Light blue geometric patterned wallpaper)(above)

Graham & Brown - Juan Wallpaper - $85 per roll (Greek key like geometric patterned light blue wallpaper)(above)

What do you think?  Like or dislike?

I think if you have bare walls in your kitchen...using wallpaper might be the easiest way to get this look.  If you are doing a kitchen remodel, why not use a fabulous mosaic tile?  I would!

Happy Monday!

P.S.  We took the dogs on a little walk yesterday in Manhattan Beach...along the boardwalk.  We also went to breakfast at a cute restaurant (diner) called Martha's.  I'm not a Manhattan Beach type of girl at all (Laguna is more to my liking!), but it was a gorgeous day and everyone was in a good mood and smiling...who can complain!  I know lots of you are buried in snow.  I wish you much sun and warmth!!

P.P.S.  Have a another shoot tonight on set on the Universal lot for my real job.  Should be fun.  Only part that isn't too fun is that shoot starts at 8pm!  Wooohoooo.

P.P.P.S.  Making some big decisions this week...will have you weigh in...has to do with the COCOCOZY textiles collection!  Exciting but not sure!!!

P.P.P.P.S.  How did you spend your weekend?  Have a great week too!

COCOCOZY EXCLUSIVE: A CHIC GALLEY KITCHEN!

All photos in this post by Coco of COCOCOZY
breakfast nook with white saarinen tulip table, blue and white french cafe chairs, silver pendant light, and dark wood floors

Today I bring you a GORGEOUS kitchen belonging to Carlyn Henry, her husband and two young sons. Carlyn lives in the tony neighborhood of Cheviot Hills here in L.A..  This kitchen remodel came to me via talented Los Angeles architect Tom Newman and incredible contractor Gregory Greenwood.

I'm going to try to make a short story short...although if any of you actually read my ramblings on the blog  on a regular basis you know that I tend to make all short stories very long. When in college, best of friend AM and dear friend AO and I called the syndrome of blurting out too much information, Over Sharing Syndrome (OSS). I have OSS - clearly.

Anyhoooo...a few weeks ago architect Tom emailed me about a kitchen he and contractor Gregory just completed.  At the same time, I think I got an email from my good friend Samantha Nugent (whose living room I just featured last week) saying she had a friend named Carlyn who had a gorgeous home.  I know that Tom, Gregory and Samantha all have impeccable taste and I heard "gorgeous and remodel" in the same sentence and I was all over pursuing this post.

So luck would have it that very nice homeowner Carlyn Henry was gracious enough to invite me into her BEAUTIFUL home this past Saturday for a nice snoop and for some photo taking.   Carlyn's home is indeed stunning.  Carlyn and her family moved out of her home for months of a remodel that included a whole house face lift.

Today I am focusing on the amazing kitchen.  I bring you a bit of Q&A with both home owner Carlyn and architect Tom Newman on this chic galley kitchen remodel.

Here goes...
***
Galley kitchen with white counters and cabinets and dark wood floors
The eat in galley kitchen in Carlyn Henry's home features dark wood floors and cabinets and walls painted in Benjamin  Moore's Simply White. (above)

COCO: The kitchen is stunning...what was your goal for this space?
CARLYN HENRY, HOMEOWNER (CARLYN): I thought that if everything in there was pretty and a bit decadent then the small size of the kitchen (galley vs island) would never be an issue. I wanted it to be a destination room in mood since we could not offer it in space. I also love the white on white to make the space feel bigger. And the heavy repetition of the hardware and cabinetry elongates the room. We purposely did not add upper cabinets on sink side to give the kitchen more headroom and larger appearance. I wanted it to feel clean and elegant.

COCO: What kind of marble did you use on counters and backsplash?
CARLYN: The counters are Calcutta Manhattan and the backsplash was a tile that we picked...I am not sure of the name but the tile length is 2x8.

Polished nickel hardware for drawer pulls and cabinet knobs add refinement to the already elegant space. (above)

This galley kitchen features everything a home chef would want...double ovens, a Wolf gas range and a high end refrigerator with panel doors matching the rest of the kitchen cabinetry. (above)

breakfast nook with saarinen tulip table, blue and white french cafe chairs, silver pendant light, and dark wood floors
The breakfast nook is absolutely darling with a Saarinen Tulip round table in white surrounded by blue and white French cafe style chairs. (above)

COCO: Describe an element of the design you are most proud of?
TOM NEWMAN, ARCHITECT (TOM): Before the remodel, they had a 30” round folding table in one corner of their kitchen which is where they ate most meals; husband, wife, and two kids. Then throw in a nanny and it just seemed crazy that they lived this way. My biggest push was to add a proper breakfast room where they could all sit comfortably and be next to their back yard patio. Family dining was very big in my house growing up and I try to pass on that important institution to others. It happened and turned out great

kitchen finishing touches: a polished nickel silver sconce light, marble fruit bowl holding lemons, limes and pears, and a framed piece of a child's art
Very simple finishing touches make the breakfast nook feel like home. Clockwise from bottom left: a marble pedestal bowl filled with colorful fruit adds a pop of color against the white backdrop, a painting by one of Carlyn's young sons is framed beautifully and looks like a piece of modern art; elegant polished nickel sconces add some gleam and sparkle to the already gorgeous space. (above)

COCO: Now that your family has moved back into the house, how do you feel about the long months of construction and design...was it worth it?
CARLYN: When the last piece went in: the breakfast table and chairs, we fell in love. We moved in 4 months before that came so moving back in was hard and the punch list was long (we pushed to move in by a certain date so a few things had not yet been completed). Now we feel like the house is totally ours and so fresh and new that we forget how long we lived in the rental apartment. It does feel worth it when it’s finally and truly done.

***

Thank you Carlyn Henry for inviting COCOCOZY into your fantastic home. It was such a thrill. So nice meeting you, your husband, adorable kids and cute dog Dallas!

Architect Tom Newman and contractor Gregory Greenwood - amazing work as usual!

Readers, what do you think of this galley or shotgun kitchen? Is there anything here you would just love in your own kitchen? I would just take the whole thing!

Happy Tuesday!

P.S. Saturday's tour of Carlyn's house was especially nice because Samantha Nugent and her cute daughters came by to tour with me. The little girls 3 and 7 I think and they were both dressed in pink. Such cuties.

P.P.S. Did I ever update you on that possible big corporate gift order? A major entertainment company is ordering our signature COCOCOZY Logo throws from the COCOCOZY Textiles collection as their corporate gifts for all of their top people and on-air talent! We are so thrilled.

P.P.P.S. Remember to follow COCOCOZY on Bloglovin'! Also, I put a cute photo on COCOCOZY Instagram and COCOCOZY Twitter last night. Take a look and let me know what you think!

P.P.P.P.S. Just finished up the designs for the COCOCOZY 2013 textiles collection.  Can't wait to share them.  We are getting strike offs in the next few weeks.  2013 is going to be a busy one for us...we have several new partners and lots of different product launches...including the whole bedding line and more.   So much to do...so little time...!

P.P.P.P.P.S.  Remember how a few weeks back I said I liked lighter wood floors.  That has changed.  After seeing Carlyn's home and kitchen, I am now thinking I'm back in love with dark wood floors for my little tiny cottage in the Hollywood Hills.  Hmmm...all of this floor indecision has meant nothing has gotten done at my house!!! Help!!!!!

Kitchen with black and white checker floor, beadboard walls, open shelving, and white pendant light over a table surrounded by white chairs

Loving this small eat-in kitchen with its checkered black and white floor, beadboard walls, open shelving, room for a table and chairs, and an oh so necessary kitchen chalkboard.

Very cute. Very inviting. Makes you realize how much all that can happen in a really small space!

THE MAKING OF NEW TRADITIONAL - A CHEERY CLASSIC BREAKFAST NOOK & KITCHEN!

Breakfast nook with large arched windows, blue graphic print curtains, a white table with carved base, wood chairs with yellow pvc seats and backs and nail head trim

Traditional doesn't have to be stodgy. See this kitchen and breakfast nook...100%traditional but with a freshness that speaks modern.

I like this cheerful showhouse space composed talented San Francisco interior designer Palmer Weiss. Love the use of yellows and blues and white and brown. A nice combination.

Bright and happy and well appointed.

Ceasarstone counters combined with a Carrara marble subway tile backsplash in the kitchen just works...not to mention the great use of the graphic grey Ann Sacks mosaic tile on the stove backsplash!

I can imagine a family enjoying this space.

Nbaynadamas EXCLUSIVE: KITCHEN COUTURE - AN ELEGANT CALIFORNIA CLASSIC!

All photos in this post by Coco of Nbaynadamas
Kitchen with dark grey cabinets and drawers, marble counter tops, wood floor, and metal barstools around a large island with a marble top
The chic new kitchen in Samantha and Barry Nugent's Los Angeles home (above)

Is it weird that I told my friend Samantha Nugent this weekend that I would happily find another house for her and her family to move into so I could move into her newly renovated house right away? Is it weird that when I walked into her newly remodeled home, I immediately started to hyperventilate because I got so excited about how beautiful it looked? Is it weird that I kind of didn't want to leave her powder room with its new blue peacock feather imprinted wallpaper? Is it weird that while visiting, I popped behind their new cozy bar and wouldn't leave? Is it weird that I barely said hello to her husband Barry, who is also my friend, because I was so busy examining the gorgeous kitchen design? Is it weird that I only took a moment to say a proper hello to her gorgeous children because I was too busy oogling over all of the decor details in her home?

Now I ask all those questions but I would prefer dear readers that you do not answer as I know the answer already. Yes, it IS all weird. After this visit, I did officially figure out and confirm that I have turned into a total design geek so it makes sense to a certain extent but it is weird...I know.

Anyhoooooo....this weekend I was fortunate enough to pay a visit to Samantha and Barry Nugent's newly remodeled home in Cheviot Hills, a gorgeous and tony enclave here in Los Angeles. The couple has spent about a year remodeling and restoring their lovely 1929 Spanish style home for their family which includes three lovely children. I visited on Saturday and I can say first hand that the remodel is stunning.

Samantha, armed with a great architect and a wonderful contractor (see credits below), decorated the home herself (no decorator leading the charge). She has impeccable taste...so her home has a certain timeless elegance to it while also feeling quite fresh and modern.

Samantha was gracious enough to let me take photos of the kitchen...so I will stop ooooohhhing and aahhhhing and get right to the reveal...a Nbaynadamas EXCLUSIVE feature on an elegant California classic kitchen!

Amazing architect Tom Newman of Newman and Wolen (tom@newmanandwolen.com) and brilliant contractor Gregory Greenwood made up Samantha's spectacular design team. VERY NICE WORK!

Happy Monday readers! Hope you enjoy this kitchen exclusive!

COLOR WATCH: PLAYING WITH PINK IN A NEW YORK FAMILY LOFT!

Photos courtesy of Ghislaine Vinas Interior Design
Open plan kitchen and living room with bright pink sofa and bar stools in a modern New York loft
A hot pink sofa and hot pink bar stools make a bright and bold statement in a modern New York loft! (above)

I'm not a big pink person. Unlike some of my dearest friends who love pink and have pink touches all over their homes and even wear pink from time to time...I'm a bit afraid of pink in home decor (and in fashion). Don't know why...maybe it is because pink reminds me of 8 year old girls and princess dresses? Don't know. Maybe because whenever I've tried to incorporate pink into my wardrobe, I accidentally pair it with black and then feel like that Good & Plenty candy. I admit...I have had a case of pink-a-phobia over the years. I don't own anything pink, I don't have anything pink in my house and if I see pink, I sometimes cringe.

After seeing this New York City loft from interior designer Ghislaine Vinas, I may have conquered my fear of pink. I really like this space that is filled with pops of pink.

This is a cool modern city apartment where the pink touches add cheerful accents of color. Cheerful pink highlights that work for me (a self admitted pink-a-phobic). Just the right amount of pink!

Thank you Ghislaine for curing my aversion to pink. Who knows, I might have to actually add a little pink into my home, wardrobe...into my life! Wish me luck!

Open kitchen with pink barstools and a hot pink backsplash
Open kitchen's backsplash is painted hot pink too...a perfect match for the counter stools.(above)

How do you feel about pink?

Hope you have a great Friday and that thinking pink is working for you!
