GWYNETH PALTROW'S GUEST APARTMENT - BEFORE & AFTER

Cute window seat at Gwyneth Paltrow's new guest apartment at her Los Angeles mansion (above)

Last week, best of friend AT who lives in London sent me a link to actress Gwyneth Paltrow's style site Goop.  On Goop, there was a makeover of a guest apartment.  AT was sending me the link suggesting that I should do more makeovers on my blog.

Well, the minute I clicked on the link...I recognized the room...I had been in the room 2.5 years ago...one night at a glittery party...the opening night of a showcase home presented by Veranda magazine.

The room is in a gorgeous multimillion dollar home right in Brentwood.  I had attended a party there with my friend JD which resulted in a several blog posts with pictures I took.  See here for my House of Windsor photos and stories.

Anyhoo, about a year after I was at the party, actress Gwyneth Paltrow and her uber rock star husband Chris Martin bought it.

So the room was originally designed by Martyn Lawrence Bullard...it was a mod bachelor apartment above the garage...with black leather furniture, a bold fabric covering the walls...very retro.

Here is how Gwyneth and team made over the room into a cute guest apartment...in today's BEFORE & AFTER!

BEFORE (below)

Retro guest apartment with black and green furniture, grey and white graphic print wall covering and lots of art
BEFORE - For the show house, the apartment was decorated with a very retro vibe with black and green furniture choices that made the room heavy...walls also featured lots of art layered on top of the bold wallcovering...making the space a bit busy. (above)

DURING (below)

Guest apartment during its makeover
DURING - While trying to plan out a new space, all vestiges of the show house decor except for the bold wallpaper were removed.
AFTER (below)

AFTER - The once dark feeling space is transformed into a lovely bright guest apartment with a white bed, sitting area, desk and kitchenette. (above)
What do you think of this room makeover?  Do you have any photos of rooms you have transformed in your house...if so, please email pictures to me and maybe I'll show off your before and after.  My email is Nbaynadamas@Nbaynadamas.com!

A big huge thank you to AT for sharing the Goop story with me!  AT has fabulous ideas...always!

Happy Monday!

P.S.  Nice weekend...TE took me out to dinner at Mr. Chow's on Saturday night.  We had a great time.  Sis DS was supposed to come but she had a cold.  Hope you feel better sis DS!

P.P.S.  TE had to work on Sunday...so as a good girlfriend...I watched his 49ers win against North Carolina. I spent the entire game texting him.  Oh I did leave to go get a tea at Starbucks and missed some of the key plays.  TE was texting but I was talking to a neighbor after getting my tea so I missed a chunk.  When I got back home, he started asking me via text which play I thought was better etc...I faked it for awhile but then had to fess up that as a good girlfriend, I had to have tea and chat with my neighbor during an important football play off game!  Do not feel sorry for TE...he watched most of the game himself... he had his team set up a huge t.v. with the game on it at the place where he was working...so he didn't miss much either!

P.P.P.S.  Best of friend AM and I are trying to figure out ways to drop holiday pounds with the least amount of pain and effort...we talked several times this weekend scheming...she at least is doing Soul Cycle 4 times a week...hmmmm....need to get on this!

SEE THIS HOUSE: A $29 MILLION MONTECITO MEDITERRANEAN MANSE!

Living room in a Montecito mansion with exposed beams, wood floor, a tan rug, chandelier, white armchairs and sofa and high arched doors leading to a balcony

Hmmm.....my morning...5am wake up with alarm...5:20 actually wake up...5:30-6:30am no accounting for time as I pretended to work at my computer, brush teeth, wash face, stare out of the window, put on aforementioned UGGs, light fireplace, turn on heater, swear out loud how cold it is in my tiny Hollywood Hills home, sit at my computer, quiet the dog who is whining, stare at my computer and it goes on for an hour like this....6:30a UPS guy drops off a package that was supposed to come on Saturday morning (grrrr....) and I tell him how disappointed I am in UPS and he ignores me...6:45a Earl Grey tea...7am still no work done in vortex of sorts of doing stuff but not doing anything...7:05a I wonder to myself, "self, I wonder how much $29 million would buy me in Montecito, California?"(this could be the part that is not quite what happened; in other words not sure this was my exact musing or if I was scrambling to think of post ideas and I decided real estate is a good idea)...7:10 I come across the house featured in today's post....8:15a I begin to write post (note, I do have a job I have to report to at 9a...not looking good in the timeliness-to-work area at this point). So you see...there is a method to my madness...2-3 hours after waking up...I finally come up with something to blog about...smart use of time...right?

Anyhooooooo....that brings us to today's story...a 1920s Spanish style villa in GORGEOUS Montecito, CA. 7 bedroom, 10.5 baths, a 75 foot pool, 7 acres of land, a guest house, tennis court, Japanese garden, stunning Montecito views and all offered by Sotheby's International Realty for just a mere $29 million! Yup. $29 million!

Can't quite figure out the square footage on this one but once again...I would take it in a minute if someone offered it to me. I love California Mediterranean vintage homes.

Take a look...

Carved, arched front door to a Montecito mansion with terra cotta tile floor

Library in a Montecito mansion with a fireplace and a mirror in a traditional frame on the mantel, built in bookshelves, arched windows, a wood desk and chair, a striped sofa and a large Turkish rug

Kitchen in a Montecito mansion with stainless appliances, tile floor, columns, white drawers and cabinets, dark counter tops, an island with a wood counter top and sink and a breakfast nook with banquette seating and a glass table with metal legs

Hallway in a Montecito mansion with vaulted ceiling, arched doors and saltillo tile floor

Bedroom in a Montecito mansion with wood floor, blue and white chevron printed rug, two iron canopy beds with white bedding and a brocade throw at the foot of the bed, and double doors with blue and white curtains lead to an outdoor patio

Bathroom in a Montecito mansion with blue and white ikat curtains instead of a glass door to the tub, a built in tub with, blue and white Portuguese tile line the back wall, a pedestal sink, a wood chest of drawers and a Moroccan lantern light

Arched entryway to the backyard of a Montecito mansion with white curtains tied back and saltillo tile floor

Large pool in the backyard of a Montecito mansion

So would you take this house or leave it? I would DEFINITELY take it. I find it quite charming...all $29 million of it! I might make some tweaks here and there (the kitchen could use a little doing) and of course, I would lighten up and brighten up the decor...but other than that...I'm in. How about you?

Happy Monday!

WINNING TWINS - MAKING TWO BEDS BETTER THAN ONE!

Children's bedroom with two twin beds with lime green spindle headboards, light purple walls, carpeted floor and a white nightstand with lime green drawers
Photo: Moises Esquenazi

Love these twin bedrooms. Perfect for children (boy, girl or even toddler soon to be tot) and/or guests. Oh how I wish I even had an extra room to decorate...for kids and guests alike.

Think these rooms are fab because they all have a bit of whimsy to them and some bold use of color. All show much design can matter in a kid's or guest room.

From fun spindle headboards, to colorful drapes and canopies, to grass cloth covered walls, to a bright Marimekko wallpaper (see last photo), to colorful bedding...these rooms pack twice the design punch of any old single bed bedroom!

Bedroom with two twin beds red upholstered headboard, white bedding with red trim, instead of a nightstand, between the beds is a wood desk with a wood chair with woven seat and back, and striped curtains

My favorite is the first room with the great yellow headboards...forget the guests or children, I might just make that one my own!

Happy Wednesday! (I have the day off from work...yipppeeee)
