$24 MILLION DOLLAR MALIBU ESTATE - SEE THIS HOUSE

East comes west with this home listed for sale on Broad Beach in Malibu - a bit of a Cape Cod feel right in a million dollar California neighborhood.  So, did you know that it costs $24 million dollars for a 4,889 square foot home right on the water on one of the most coveted beaches on the West Coast?

31134 Broad Beach Road was built in 1958 and designed by architect Gerard Colcord. This real estate listing from Prichett Rapf Realtors, features 4 bedrooms, 5.5 baths, 3 car garage, several outdoor living areas and 100 feet of beach front. The living room has hand hewn oak floors and the rustic country kitchen has a fireplace, copper sink, breakfast/dining area, and opens to an outdoor covered patio.  The home is gated.

Don't know whether the Cape Cod eclectic style is up my alley but the views certainly are!  Take a look.

I would take it and then revamp.  Oh did I mention the listing price includes all of the furniture!  Hmmm...I think I would negotiate the furniture out of the deal...get rid of the wall to wall carpeting in the bedrooms and start from scratch with the decor.  I might however keep the brick floors in the kitchen.  Hmmm...what do you think?

P.S.  It was a gorgeous very hot weekend here in Los Angeles.  I spent a lot of time in Santa Monica at dear friends BN and SN's family beach house right on water - I was there both days...a little work lots of nice catching up with them and all their cuties.  Will share a photo of their very cool beach home that has an amazing eclectic international well traveled vibe maybe tomorrow here on the blog.  Anyhooo...on Saturday night, I captured this lovely sky just after sunset at my little tiny cottage in the Hollywood Hills.  It was a gorgeous night!

WHERE LESS IS MORE - POOL PERFECT

Oh...designing a long weekend.  Let's see...my ideal weekend would include a little travel, a pool, a water view, good company of friends and family, yummy food, delish drinks, a little pampering (a massage or facial) and enjoying being outside!

I would love to be staying at this Shelter Island home...where my biggest worry would be what to wear by the pool.  A sleek infinity pool, a gray deck and a simple elegant sleek white dining table and signature classic Bertoia metal chairs over looking the water.  A modern outdoor delight I think!

This deck shows you that you don't need much to make a design statement.  Simple modern chic.

Well that is my dream weekend...my real life is a little different.

My long weekend will include none of the above...I'll be happy but my weekend will indeed be so much different than my dream weekend. I will be working quite a bit...catching up on all of the COCOCOZY business stuff that needs to get done over at COCOCOZY Headquarters in Beverly Hills - catching up on work will actually make me feel more relaxed if you can believe it! I know...bizarre.  Hopefully though my long weekend will also include a little rest and relaxation, some exercise (we'll see) and most importantly time with family, friends and TE too.

SEE THIS HOUSE: WHAT $50 MILLION DOLLARS BUYS YOU IN MALIBU!

Located on prestigious Carbon Beach in Malibu right on Pacific Coast Highway, this 9 bedroom, 13 bathroom home boasts over 150 feet of gorgeous California beach frontage.  Prime real estate I would say. 10,317 square feet of prime real estate to be exact.

Oh did I mention the $50 million dollar price tag for this house (or should I say estate...or mansion...what does one call a larger than life beach house...?)? Hilton & Hyland has this multi million dollar real estate listing!  Let's see...the house was designed by architect Michael Graves and I found reports that say a guy who once ran Yahoo is selling it (Terry Semel is his name I think).

Here's how the home is described on the property website:

"The home is composed of three pavilions and is a blend of contemporary and traditional architecture, portraying both the feeling of Modernism and Classicism.  You are swept into the heart of the living space by the expansive ocean view. Twelve foot ceilings encase a bank of French doors leading to a signature covered outdoor veranda with columns reminiscent of a contemporary southern plantation. The master bedroom is bathed in sunlight from both the French doors that front the ocean, and the 6 part gridded circular window that comprises most of the north wall of the room. Dual baths and closets complete the master suite. The architect says his vision was to present a home that was “cool and open with the presence of water."

P.P.S. COCOCOZY NEW COLLECTION - I finally received the samples for the new collection I am working on...so very excited! AG and TG came by COCOCOZY HQ on Saturday and saw the beginning swatches for this new collection. Okay...I think I will bury yet another big COCOCOZY story in the P.S. section only because I can never hold anything in long enough for a big reveal. Okay...so on Friday, I got my first samples of the COCOCOZY bedding collection! In January 2013, I'll be debuting a collection of complete bedding - COCOCOZY duvets, shams, sheets and more! I am so excited. I had some linen shams and boudoir pillows in the original COCOCOZY collection...they were extremely high end and I think far too luxury for everyday people like you and me (would be good for the $50 million dollar beach house people though). So I was fortunate enough to be approached by a wonderful company who is now manufacturing a full top of bed collection for COCOCOZY. Woot woot. Woohoo. Yippeeee!!! We've been working on the project for almost a year. The samples are looking good overall. Need to still work on the colors in one of the collections but so far so good. I'll write a real post on COCOCOZY bedding soon.

P.P.P.P.S. VOTE - Remember to vote tomorrow!  I have been obsessed with presidential election polls over the last few weeks - is that geeky? Another question re: election geekiness.  Am one of those people who loves going to the polls to vote and then I wear my sticker around all day that says "I voted". Is that geeky or patriotic? Or is it patriotic geeky?  Either way I am proud to vote and if I am deemed a geek because I am constantly checking the polls, then I am proud of that too!  An interior design addicted, election obsessed, leading a double life, voting girl.  That's me!  Anyhoooo....vote, vote, vote!

CALIFORNIA FALL IN SANTA BARBARA!

Sorry I didn't post on Friday or the last few days. Was running off for an autumn weekend in Santa Barbara...one of the most beautiful places around I think.

Had a wonderful time of relaxing, dining, wine tasting, pool lounging and more. It was absolutely delightful.

Imagine a long drive in a convertible up the coast, with the top down, gorgeous weather and great company.

We stayed at Bacara.  It was so pretty.  I had been to Bacara once about 10 years ago, not too long after it had opened, and the resort was not quite up to speed.  This weekend however Bacara was just lovely.  The grounds looked beautiful, the ocean views were spectacular, the service was great and the pool was the perfect place for a bit of people watching and early afternoon napping.

Ventured out to the Santa Ynez valley for wine tasting on Saturday afternoon. Stops included Rusack Vineyards and Beckmen Vineyards.  We had wine and cheese outside at Rusack and enjoyed the beautiful views of the vineyards.  At Beckmen we met the wine maker and learned a little about what it takes to make grapes into wine.

Spoke on the phone with best of friend AM on Sunday as we were heading into Santa Barbara to walk around town for the afternoon before heading back to Los Angeles.  As you know, best of friend AM lives in NYC.  AM was headed to the store to get candles and supplies for her family (hubby JE and cute kiddies LE and JE III) in preparation for Hurricane Sandy.  Felt like we were in a California bubble, while the rest of the country was dealing with real life.

Reality check: It is now 6:00am on Monday (today) - I woke up at 4:30a.  I am madly trying to figure out blog posts for the week and am responding to emails.  I also have an 8:15am weekly meeting at COCOCOZY HQ with CM and JW...we will go over goals for the week for COCOCOZY.  Then I will head off to my real job where we are right in the middle of a major project. Busy Monday! I have so much catching up to do after taking a full 2 days off.  I would do it again and again though.  It was a perfect weekend.  Is that possible?  A perfect weekend?

WHAT'S NEW IS OLD - A MALIBU BEACH RETREAT!

A Malibu house...with ocean views...right on the famous Broad Beach.  A new home built to look old!  Owned and built by antiques afficianado Richard Shapiro, the home is a juxtaposition between old and new... from the purposefully chipped sandstone floors, to the buffed plastered walls, to the floor to ceiling encasement windows, to the modern swooping steel balustrade, this villa on the ocean is meant to look as if it was plucked out of ancient ruins with some very modern touches!

NANTUCKET NATURAL - ISLAND OUTDOOR COLORS INISDE A SMALL BEACH COTTAGE!

Remember when I told you last week that best of friend FF invited me to Nantucket again this year to hang out with her and her husband CCF and her son CGF (who also doubles as my god child) and the rest of her family for a weekend in July?  I regretfully had to decline due to work trips surrounding showing the Nbaynadamas furnishings collection in both Atlanta and New York.  Much regret was involved in declining the invite...much regret.  Oh, and I had also wanted to see the Nbaynadamas collection at the Lion's Paw on Main Street in Nantucket - that posh furnishings store is carrying the line.  Now I need to face reality though...am not going to Nantucket this summer...I am not going...(boo)...I am not going (it's okay)...I'm not going (I'll be fine)...I'm not going (chin up, lots to be grateful for)...I am not going (picking self up off the ground)...I am not going to Nantucket this summer (waaaaaaaaaaboooooooohoooooo).  Okay...I have had my meltdown...time to move on.  Sorry you had to witness that...LOL!

Well I can't be in Nantucket but I can still enjoy all things Nantucket.  Specifically, I am totally enjoying this lovely little cottage from talented interior designer Lynn Morgan who worked with Brooks & Falatico architects on the project.  This tiny renovated guest cottage is in the back of main house in the Wauwinet area of Nantucket.  It is oh so perfectly small with oh so wonderful views.  2 bedrooms, 1 bath and a view.  Perfect vacation spot.

In the design,  Lynn literally took the vibrant outdoor blues and greens and transported those hues right inside.  Lovely turquoise and apple green bursts of color against a white background!  The turquoise Moroccan poufs in the living room, the awesome Sea Bouquet-Bamboo fabric by Susan Harris for Lee Jofa fabric on the upholstered club chairs, right down to the glass dishware in the kitchen cabinets - all in tones of fresh blue and bright green brought right in from the outdoors.

Some things to note in this design...loving the glossy white lacquer floors in the main living spaces and the turquoise blue lacquer floor in the bedroom.  Also, note the design trick in the small kitchen...a mirror backsplash to give the illusion of making the space bigger!  Oh, and must love that over sized white sectional sofa that wraps around an entire corner of the living room....very nice...wouldn't mind throwing off my shoes there, grabbing a good book (if only I had time for a good book these days) and taking in a good look at the wonderful ocean view.

A deluxe Wolf range, near white Caesarstone counters, white cabinetry with open upper shelving, a white lacquered floor...all make the small kitchen in this Nantucket cottage look as spacious and inviting as can be. (above)

A proper guest house must have a proper seating area on a lovely porch...check...this porch area with built in bench seating and teak outdoor furniture fits the bill! (above)

A WELL DESIGNED DREAM VACATION SPOT ON THE COTE D'AZUR!

Here is where I would like to go on vacation...to the French Riviera...with a long luxurious stay at the legendary Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc d'Antibes. Ahhhhh...if only.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the hotel, built back in the mid 1800's, recently underwent a $67 million renovation earlier this year and reopened in April. The face lift included upgrading the rooms and grounds. The hotel is decorated by its owner Maja Oetker. Madame Oetker, who has owned the hotel since 1969, personally oversees all of the interior design where textiles seem to be the key.  Luxurious drapery, upholstered furniture and pillows play a huge part in shaping the resorts uber elegant ambiance.  Oetker uses both Colfax & Fowler and Pierre Frey textiles throughout the resort to create an elegant, classic but fresh look - a look that is distinctive but that doesn't compete with the stunning ocean views.

The Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc has a long list notable guests who have stayed there including royalty, famous politicians like JFK and its share of stars and celebrities.

If only I had the time, this would be the perfect place for a getaway. I love the grounds and the traditional but not overly heavy decor. My dream vacation spot on the Cote d'Azur!

P.S.  Been a bit busy these last few days...KS my fab assistant and AM our new intern worked so hard to send off almost 70 pillows and googobs of drapery panels and catalogs and candles (all from the Nbaynadamas collection) to our new showroom in Atlanta!  Phew...shipment is off and should be there in 5 days.  I will go to Atlanta to show the collection in mid July.  Am so excited! 

P.P.S. Now that the shipment to Atlanta is off, I have to make all of the samples all over again for New York (we show about 100+ pillows at the New York International Gift Fair in August)...this means buying new linen, having each of the designs and colors ways (almost 40) hand screen printed again and then having pillows sewn (the owner of my sewing workroom has gone missing...I think she is really busy and I haven't heard from her in days...help.), and then we have to get everything including all of the throws to New York.  We still have to get our swatch books finished off too...we've already sent dozens of yards to the swatch book place!  Oh did I mention we are doing new throws, new cotton pillows and more!  Oh and I've got to figure out a photo shoot for the new products too....hmmmm....oh boy....oy vey...so much to do...so little time...my new saying is "whistle while you work or else you might cry!".  Whistle...whistle!!!!
