Some stores will also haul away old furniture as well, but may charge extra for the service. Do not forget about cleaning the furniture

If you have hardwood floors this makes for a difficult problem too. Cleaning under them is just as hard. The added problem is that in moving the furniture it is easy to slide. But this creates a problem and the furniture can scratch the flooring or damage the floors finish.

The best way around this is to go to a local store and purchase 1 to 2 inch felt pads that adhere on one side to the bottom of the furniture. This makes the furniture very easy to move around without damaging the floor or the floors finish. Also the furniture is not damaged either. Just remember to lighten all furniture before moving to clean under it.

When pulling out drawers be very careful not to drop them on your feet or you may end up with broken toes or damaged floors or drawers. Most beds can be taken apart for easy moving around and then reassembled after the cleaning is done.

Be aware of the material being used in the making of the furniture. The product description may not be enough to tell of its quality. The best thing to do is to look over the individual bedroom furniture pieces. Kick the tires if you will, give it the once over. Shake the furniture to see if it wobbles. Lie on the bed to test it's firmness, check the legs and the tightness of the construction. Give special attention to the bed posts as they must lie flat. No one wants a wobbly bed.

If your budget allows it, it may be a good idea to buy furniture that will last longer. Most bedroom sets are made four ways, hardwood, wood, laminates or particle board, and or veneer.

Most bedroom furniture is made of wood, particle board covered with veneer. The furniture can be heavy. If it is on carpeting it will be hard to move and to clean under. ALL ABOUT THE ARCH

I think a good arched window or door or hallway somewhere in a home can add great character.  No frills necessary if you have an arch...just the clean rounded line can still be modern while adding a bit of character and personality to a space.

I am all about a good arch these days.  What about you?

WINDSOR SMITH FOR CENTURY FURNITURE - MARKET WATCH

Yesterday I had a really nice day. I drove down to the Laguna Design Center (lovely) in Laguna Nigel (far from Los Angeles - long drive) to help uber interior designer Windsor Smith (amazing) and furniture giant Century Furniture (pillar) launch Windsor Smith's new collection of stunning furniture. Windsor and Century personally asked me to come down to do a fireside chat with Windsor as she launched her Century Furniture Icon Collection with them.

I, of course, was honored that Windsor, a designer with such an amazing reputation, wanted me to introduce her and do a one-on-one chat in front of an audience of about 200.  I met Windsor years ago at a design event.  She has always been so warm and wonderful to me.  Her work is elegant, inviting and friendly...much like the designer herself.

Anyhoooo...was thrilled to get an early look at the collection in the Century Furniture showroom in Laguna.  Lovely pieces with a traditional base but modern feel.  Lots of geometric shapes, a mix of media, classic lines with a fresh twist.  A must see!

During the q&a I did with Windsor on stage, she shared insights with the 200 people there about her design approach...telling a story with every room design, piece of furniture or look.  Her words were very inspiring.

P.S. In bath robe and Uggs this morning...just heard garbage trucks...had to stop blog post to fly down the stairs of my house...like a bit of a kooky person to take out the trash cans...one neighbor was getting into his car and saw the spectacle of me running to pull out the cans in my make shift morning get up and hair in two pigtails...he quickly averted his eyes away...hmmm....

P.P.S. Must run...lots of people in town for my day job. Lots of meetings today. Thinking of wearing this cute new spring dress I got at Barney's over the weekend.  Only problem is that I am still wanting to wear dark opaque winter tights. So I guess the question is bare leg or tights? Or forget the dress and go for some cute skinny jeans with a blazer?  Oh my non dilemma dilemmas continue on...okay...now I am officially running late!  Have a great day!

P.P.P.S.  Best of friend AM woke me up at 5:15 am to chat on the phone while she was driving from some place in New York to some place else in New York.  I said to her 3 times I was sleeping...she didn't care...she was bored on a long commute...so within 5 minutes I joined in and talked to her for about an hour! Somehow I am still running late this morning even though my day started at 5:15a.  Help.

COCOCOZY IN INSTYLE MAGAZINE - PRESS ALERT

COCOCOZY made the pages of the April 2014 InStyle magazine! The issue is InStyle's color issue. COCOCOZY Loop rug in sage green is featured on the "green" page along with quite a few other items.

The kind editors at InStyle emailed me a few months ago asking about the rug...was thrilled when they confirmed they would use it.

This weekend, I went to the newsstand near COCOCOZY HQ in Beverly Hills and picked up three copies.  Was so thrilled to see my rug in the pages of a national magazine. Very exciting!

HOLLYWOOD HILLS WITH A VIEW - WEEKEND HOUSE TOUR

I got to walk through this home last weekend.  I showed you the bedroom earlier this week. A 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath house, perched on a hill overlooking Los Angeles.  The minute we walked into the house we loved it.  High ceilings, a small infinity lap pool with a view, floor to ceiling windows, and styled perfectly.  The wood floors were a wonderful color of light brown with a hint of white.  And did I mention the high ceilings.

Have been showing pieces of the house on COCOCOZY Instagram all week...lots of people liked them, so I just decided to show it all here too.

Love this house...I would throw a few of my textiles into the mix and then call it a day!  Here is the house with some picks from my collection.

PARIS APARTMENT DESIGN PERFECTED

My mother is going to Paris this summer.  Boyfriend TE is going there in a week or two for work.  Everyone is going to Paris except me!  I need  to get there...soon...haven't been in about 3 years now.  That is a long time for me.

Love this little Paris pied-a-terre. It got me thinking about France.  Perfectly appointed with all of the right finishes.  The main sitting area is almost perfection for me.  Love the ornate decorative wall and ceiling moldings and the carved fireplace.  Paired with simple nailhead trim dueling sofas.  Would love it if the herringbone floors were a different shade...light brown/gray would do for me.

Other than the floors...I like...would love to spend a bit of time here.

DESIGNER BEDROOM RECREATE

Went on a little home tour this weekend of a really cute house in the Hollywood Hills overlooking Los Angeles. Was with my guy TE.  Took a snap of the master bedroom.  Here it is.  I like it.  Wingback tufted headboard, leather poufs, neutral color palette. Would get rid of some of the fur and animal hide...but then I would be happy.

DIAGONAL CHECKERBOARD FLOORS

Best of friend AM and I just had a discussion about whether a black and white tiled floor is too bold for a beach house.  I know...we could be discussing Russia and the Ukraine, or missing planes or the economy or Justin Bieber (ooops....scratch that last one)...but instead we are debating and deliberating over black and white tiled floors.

I love a classic checkered floor in black and white with tiles laid on the diagonal.  An optical illusion making the space seem bigger and the adding visual texture to a room's decor.

Might consider this for a bathroom, foyer or kitchen I think.  Is it bold?  Yes.  Could I live with it day in and day out?  I would say yes.  In the right space.
