ISLAND PREPPY LIVING ROOM!

While on Nantucket last week, happened upon this preppy living traditional living room.

I think the accents like the bright orange glossy side table and the decorative pillows in turquoise and orange make add a bit of modern preppy to the space while the furniture remains very traditional. Notice the graphic pattern pale yellow and gray rug on the floor too.

I think it is kind of cute. Take a look and let me know what you think.

TIME TO RELAX - NANTUCKET DAYS!

Arrived in Nantucket yesterday. Bliss.

Visiting with best of friend FF and her husband CCF, fantastic CF, and adorable godson CGF.

The minute I got off the plane I went into to deep relaxation mode. Hence there was no COCOCOZY post yesterday.

It is spectacular here.

I got on a small prop plane from Boston to Nantucket early morning yesterday after taking the red eye. At the Cape Air counter before you get on the plane while checking in, they always ask you your body weight.  Arrrghhhhhh.  If they feel like you are not telling the truth, they will weigh you on the luggage scale.  Total potential humiliation...to be asked in public to stand on a luggage scale to be weighed!

So when the woman at the Cape Air ticket counter asked how much I weighed, I paused and my eyes became slits, her eyes then became slits, then I cocked my head like saying "Really?", then she cocked her head like saying, "Really." , then I cut my eyes at her again, then she cut her eyes at me again.  We were in a body weight q&a silent stand off.  Then I started to think...this isn't fair. A few weeks ago I was skinnier. Then I had a little bit of an off week so I was maybe 2 or 3 (or maybe 4) pounds heavier than usual.  I wondered whether I should I go with my ideal summer weight or my actual summer weight? Then the lady behind the counter said impatiently, "Miss...ma'am? Your body weight please". In that moment I had to make a quick decision, so I just split the difference between my ideal body weight and my actual weight and then held my breath in hopes she would not send me to the luggage scale. There was a pause on her end and then she said "Okay, here is your boarding pass." Wooohoooo...phew...

So once I got to Nantucket and all body weight issues were behind me, FF picked me up at the airport.  We started off with a quick drive through town, headed over to the Galley for lunch and orange fizzy drinks (something they took off the menu but since we remembered it from a few years ago, they put it back on for us), then headed straight for the beach and the Cliffside Beach Club. At the beach club, my biggest concern was that we couldn't seem to get our sand castle higher than three stories - it was a real problem. :-) Then we went to the pool to watch 7 year old CGF swim laps, then nap time, then a store party thrown by FF's friend AB at a new store called Dakota...some fun summer shopping. I even met a COCOCOZY reader at the party...she's from Boston. Then FF, CF and I went to dinner at the Straight Wharf Restaurant while CCF and CGF stayed home. Delish. Lots of cute people milling around.  Then late night watching Olympics back at the house.  Ahhh...gorgeous day. What a day. Relax.

NANTUCKET REVISITED!

The above photo is one of my favorites.  I took it 3 years ago in Nantucket.  A bike, a rock wall, and a lighthouse in the distance.  One of those perfect moments...I've been thinking a lot about Nantucket lately.

You might be wondering why I'm zeroed in on this small island off the Massachusettes coast...well...let's see.  in August I'll be heading to Nantucket to visit best of friend FF, her husband CCF and their son (my godson) CGF...they get a house in Nantucket every summer.   I am so looking forward to seeing FF and her family and also looking forward to sitting at the Bayside Beach Club sipping orange fizzy drinks!  I'll take as many photos as I can to share...there is so much to see and do on that little tiny island.

EXPOSING THE DETAILS IN A LONDON APARTMENT! (AND A GLIMPSE OF COCOCOZY IN NANTUCKET)

So the long holiday weekend is about to begin!  Happy Memorial Day weekend! I am so excited for a little time off. Best of friend AM and her hubby JE are going to be in Los Angeles for a week staying with me...they are bringing their adorable kiddies.  A family in my little tiny cottage in the Hollywood Hills.  We'll all be very very cozy! It should be a fun long weekend and a great week too. I have been sprucing up things around the house and on the outdoor living spaces in anticipation of their arrival. Major construction things that only I will notice have changed...but the house looks tidier with a new fence, new gates, new paved side walkway, new side deck, newly painted main deck, a dry walled sky light in the bedroom and a reupholstered den sofa! Phew. Still a lot more to do but am on my way with making the house perfect for summer parties.

Anyhooo...enough about me...and onto this very cute London loft apartment. I like it because of the white washed exposed brick throughout. The brick wall adds so much character, texture and visual interest to the space. I like.

Do you like this apartment? If so what stands out to you? If someone said you could put brick walls in your house or apartment and it would somehow work...would you want an exposed brick interior wall? I would and I would paint it white or white wash it! Please do tell.

P.S. Got an email this morning that made my day. It came from Jillian Fraker. Jillian is the daughter of Debbie Fraker who owns and runs a chic home furnishings shop in Nantucket named The Lions Paw. Debbie and Jillian were some of the first customers to buy a lot of COCOCOZY textiles to feature in their store last year. Well they sold out in the summer of 2011 and made a very nice order in 2012. We sent their huge shipment off a week or two ago and they just received the shipment (takes a bit for things to get to the tiny island of Nantucket). Jillian sent me an email they liked all of their new COCOCOZY pillows! The email was titled "Crazy for Coco at The Lions Paw - Nantucket" and there were several photos attached of their beautiful store. Here's a look at COCOCOZY in Nantucket.

NANTUCKET NATURAL - ISLAND OUTDOOR COLORS INISDE A SMALL BEACH COTTAGE!

Remember when I told you last week that best of friend FF invited me to Nantucket again this year to hang out with her and her husband CCF and her son CGF (who also doubles as my god child) and the rest of her family for a weekend in July?  I regretfully had to decline due to work trips surrounding showing the Nbaynadamas furnishings collection in both Atlanta and New York.  Much regret was involved in declining the invite...much regret.  Oh, and I had also wanted to see the Nbaynadamas collection at the Lion's Paw on Main Street in Nantucket - that posh furnishings store is carrying the line.  Now I need to face reality though...am not going to Nantucket this summer...I am not going...(boo)...I am not going (it's okay)...I'm not going (I'll be fine)...I'm not going (chin up, lots to be grateful for)...I am not going (picking self up off the ground)...I am not going to Nantucket this summer (waaaaaaaaaaboooooooohoooooo).  Okay...I have had my meltdown...time to move on.  Sorry you had to witness that...LOL!

Well I can't be in Nantucket but I can still enjoy all things Nantucket.  Specifically, I am totally enjoying this lovely little cottage from talented interior designer Lynn Morgan who worked with Brooks & Falatico architects on the project.  This tiny renovated guest cottage is in the back of main house in the Wauwinet area of Nantucket.  It is oh so perfectly small with oh so wonderful views.  2 bedrooms, 1 bath and a view.  Perfect vacation spot.

In the design,  Lynn literally took the vibrant outdoor blues and greens and transported those hues right inside.  Lovely turquoise and apple green bursts of color against a white background!  The turquoise Moroccan poufs in the living room, the awesome Sea Bouquet-Bamboo fabric by Susan Harris for Lee Jofa fabric on the upholstered club chairs, right down to the glass dishware in the kitchen cabinets - all in tones of fresh blue and bright green brought right in from the outdoors.

Some things to note in this design...loving the glossy white lacquer floors in the main living spaces and the turquoise blue lacquer floor in the bedroom.  Also, note the design trick in the small kitchen...a mirror backsplash to give the illusion of making the space bigger!  Oh, and must love that over sized white sectional sofa that wraps around an entire corner of the living room....very nice...wouldn't mind throwing off my shoes there, grabbing a good book (if only I had time for a good book these days) and taking in a good look at the wonderful ocean view.

A deluxe Wolf range, near white Caesarstone counters, white cabinetry with open upper shelving, a white lacquered floor...all make the small kitchen in this Nantucket cottage look as spacious and inviting as can be. (above)

A proper guest house must have a proper seating area on a lovely porch...check...this porch area with built in bench seating and teak outdoor furniture fits the bill! (above)

Okay, this next weekend coming up, I was supposed to be in Nantucket with best of friend FF, her husband CCF and their son (my godson) CGF. About every other year, I go to Nantucket to visit with them at their vacation home,, to watch a Boston Pops concert and fireworks, to usually take a ride on an antique boat called the Sophie that belongs to one of their good friends, to attend a posh party or two or three, and to lounge beach side and at the Cliffside Beach Club.

This year I am missing my trip to the charmed island to visit my lovely friends. I have some work that is keeping me from my time on Nantucket. Bummer....

In lieu of a real visit...I'll take a virtual visit there...and to a traditional grey shingle Nantucket style house that is for sale for just $10.8 million!

This house is over 8000 square feet, has 5 bedrooms, 6.5 baths, a guest house, pool and wine cellar! The home was perfectly styled by by interior designer Barbara Waltman who is from Toronto.

Oh this is the life in Nantucket. Next year. In the meantime, maybe peeking into this fine home will do...here's today's SEE THIS HOUSE:















Ahhhhh, Nantucket! What a wonderful place. Nantucket... (Okay will stop saying Nantucket...but love Nantucket so it is hard not to say Nantucket).

The kitchen is my favorite room in this house...I love the huge oversize cone shaped pendant lights over the island. Any room strike your fancy? Or maybe just the whole house!
