FASHION FORWARD: LIVING IN SUMMER PASTELS!

costal living room with many windows, a pink coffee table, three upholstered cream colored armchairs and a mint green sofa

I like this coastal living room. Bright, cheerful, great ocean views. Am not normally a pastels girl...but I like the way the pastel colors work in this living space...I also might this summer even venture into a few pastels in my wardrobe.

P.S.  Best of friend AM and her family are gone.  I miss them.  Was so happy to have spent a week with them...even though I was working all of the time.

P.P.S.  On Saturday night, I went to the best party ever...it was thrown as a birthday party for Kristi Bender of Wendy Schwartz Design.  Kristi's husband threw the party for her.  It was at her fabulous home here in Los Angeles and it was the best party ever!  There was a DJ, great music, a shiny white dance floor in the middle of the privet enclosed backyard, glittering decorations, a special cocktail called the Kristi Bender, a hot dog stand with vegetarian, turkey and custom beef hot dogs, great lighting throughout and all of the french doors of the house were tossed open so guests could enjoy the beautiful outdoor and indoor spaces.  It was spectacular!  I only had my blackberry with me but I tweeted a few photos on COCOCOZY Twitter.  Wish I had taken my camera.  So many great entertaining ideas!  Maybe I can convince Kristi to do a guest post! My friends AG and HW were there and so was Kristi's nice friend CL.  I also ran into Kristi's business partner Wendy Schwartz and her husband...they were so nice to chat with.  Also saw Alexandra and Billy Kimball there and was able to have a quick chat with them too - Alexandra looked quite stylish.  Oh did I mention, Kristi looked fantastic in a dress that a friend of hers made for her... it was gorgeous. Okay...need to get Kristi to do a post on her bday party.  I hope she has pictures.

NANTUCKET NATURAL - ISLAND OUTDOOR COLORS INISDE A SMALL BEACH COTTAGE!

Living room in a cottage with turquoise pillows on a white sectional, two turquoise moroccan poufs, turquoise and white armchairs, a sea grass rug, white coffee table and a chandelier.

Remember when I told you last week that best of friend FF invited me to Nantucket again this year to hang out with her and her husband CCF and her son CGF (who also doubles as my god child) and the rest of her family for a weekend in July?  I regretfully had to decline due to work trips surrounding showing the Nbaynadamas furnishings collection in both Atlanta and New York.  Much regret was involved in declining the invite...much regret.  Oh, and I had also wanted to see the Nbaynadamas collection at the Lion's Paw on Main Street in Nantucket - that posh furnishings store is carrying the line.  Now I need to face reality though...am not going to Nantucket this summer...I am not going...(boo)...I am not going (it's okay)...I'm not going (I'll be fine)...I'm not going (chin up, lots to be grateful for)...I am not going (picking self up off the ground)...I am not going to Nantucket this summer (waaaaaaaaaaboooooooohoooooo).  Okay...I have had my meltdown...time to move on.  Sorry you had to witness that...LOL!

Well I can't be in Nantucket but I can still enjoy all things Nantucket.  Specifically, I am totally enjoying this lovely little cottage from talented interior designer Lynn Morgan who worked with Brooks & Falatico architects on the project.  This tiny renovated guest cottage is in the back of main house in the Wauwinet area of Nantucket.  It is oh so perfectly small with oh so wonderful views.  2 bedrooms, 1 bath and a view.  Perfect vacation spot.

In the design,  Lynn literally took the vibrant outdoor blues and greens and transported those hues right inside.  Lovely turquoise and apple green bursts of color against a white background!  The turquoise Moroccan poufs in the living room, the awesome Sea Bouquet-Bamboo fabric by Susan Harris for Lee Jofa fabric on the upholstered club chairs, right down to the glass dishware in the kitchen cabinets - all in tones of fresh blue and bright green brought right in from the outdoors.

Some things to note in this design...loving the glossy white lacquer floors in the main living spaces and the turquoise blue lacquer floor in the bedroom.  Also, note the design trick in the small kitchen...a mirror backsplash to give the illusion of making the space bigger!  Oh, and must love that over sized white sectional sofa that wraps around an entire corner of the living room....very nice...wouldn't mind throwing off my shoes there, grabbing a good book (if only I had time for a good book these days) and taking in a good look at the wonderful ocean view.

Kitchen with a deluxe Wolf range, near white Caesarstone counters, white cabinetry with long silver drawer pulls and open upper shelving, a white lacquered floor and stainless appliances
A deluxe Wolf range, near white Caesarstone counters, white cabinetry with open upper shelving, a white lacquered floor...all make the small kitchen in this Nantucket cottage look as spacious and inviting as can be. (above)

Bedroom with turquoise lacquer floor, white cabinets, white bed and white panned walls and turquoise grey and white striped pillows

Outdoor seating area with built in bench seating, teak table and matching chairs
A proper guest house must have a proper seating area on a lovely porch...check...this porch area with built in bench seating and teak outdoor furniture fits the bill! (above)

What do you think of this little Nantucket nest? Could you see yourself being a guest in this small home? What do you like? What might you add or subtract?  Do weigh in!

Thanks to Lynn and Calla from Lynn Morgan Design for sharing these photos!

Happy Monday!

WEEKEND PHOTO: MANTEL MELANGE!

Mantel with distressed painted wood frame mirror, deer skull and candlesticks
A mix of romantic, coastal, shabby chic and lodge styles all come together in one fireplace mantel vignette - with its distressed painted wood framed mirror, a deer skull with antlers, white Victorian candlesticks and faux finish wall with a bird mural painted, several styles are blended together.(above)

I took this photo about three months ago on morning stroll before brunch in Venice. I'll do a post on the store where I found this cute vignette later (or some day - giving myself time to procrastinate even more)! I love the distressed mirror frame made with wood paneling painted in off white, dusty yellow, brown and turquoise blue stripes...casually chic I think...I might place against a simple white wall in a bedroom or maybe in a cute casual powder room in a vacation home. The whole image is a unlikely mix of so many styles but it works...coastal style or shabby chic with a twist!

Hope you have a great weekend. Mine has been entertaining so far!
