BUILT-IN HEADBOARD - BEDROOM DESIGN IDEA

Bedroom with built in tufted arch headboard

Built in furniture is definitely a way to save space in a small room.  I wish I had built-ins in my tiny little cottage in the Hollywood Hills.  I could use every inch of space there.

This lovely little room in a cottage designed by Jessica Helgerson has everything built in even the headboard!  A tufted arched headboard behind the bed built right into a nook created by built in closets and drawers.  The room is very small but it doesn't feel that way.  No clunky headboard attached to the bed sucking up space.  With the head board flush to the wall...every inch is saved...leaving more room between the foot of the bed and the French doors leading to the garden.

Smart use of space I think.

What are some space saving tricks you've used in your home?  Do you like this idea?  Just noticed there are drawers under the bed too!

Happy Wednesday!

FAUX BAMBOO

Blue and white bedroom with black faux bamboo headboards, white x-benches and a blue and white striped rug

I am still loving faux bamboo.  I think a lot of people in the design community may have moved passed this trend...but I am still into this look.  I have a little glass and metal faux bamboo side table in my den...it is the perfect mix of modern and classic to me.

THE ALL WHITE BED - STYLE STATEMENT

Clean white bedroom with light wood floor, a large window and a framed portrait

I love a clean simple all white bed. Never goes out of style.  Is it stylish to just put a white cover or duvet over a bed and call it a day?  Don't get me wrong...I love a fun patterned bed...the COCOCOZY Bedding collection is full of that - interesting textures, graphic shapes, timeless colors.  But on a day where you need mental quiet, deep relaxation, no noise, or a soft touch to the eye...an all soft white bed will do the trick.

Does an all white bed make a style statement?  I wonder.

What do you think?  Do you like an all white in the bed or is it way too boring?  What is your idea for bedding that makes a style statement?  Florals, prints, color?

Happy Wednesday!

P.S.  Okay...best of friend AM and her hubby JE and their two kids arrive tonight.  My deck is still under construction!!!  It is a mess.  They are outside sanding and staining right now.  Follow along on COCOCOZY Instagram @COCOCOZY to see updates of the work in progress.  I'll be posting a few images today!

P.P.S.  Today am wearing a sparkling jeweled short sleeve sweatshirt.  Kind of cute.  Bought it to meet TE's dad and stepmom.  Ended up not wearing it then...but it is good for work!  I am wearing it with some old sparkling Prada flats.  Is that too much sparkle to be taken seriously on the job?  We'll see!

BEDROOM DESIGN FIND: RED CHINESE CHIPPENDALE HEADBOARD!

red headboard bed bedroom design chinese chippendale chinoiserie style
Smith & Watson - Queen Chinese Chippendale Fretwork Headboard - $10030 (Red fretted headboard. Mahogany.  Glossy lacquer finish) (above)

I like this headboard. A mahogany lacquered Chinoiserie headboard. Would certainly make a bright statement in a bedroom. If I were designing around this headboard, I would keep the rest of the decor in the bedroom simple. Pale gray walls, crisp all white bedding, a few lucite nightstands, simple white milk glass table lamps with shades with just a tiny thin barely perceptible red trim around the bottom.

Could be cute.

Oh, this is definitely not a piece do to be taken lightly. You would definitely have to commit...it is over $10,000! So you have to really love it and know you are going to love it for years...maybe even decades!

Is this statement headboard something you could live with for years and years and love? What do you think?

So...way back in August, I had dinner with good friend JO who was visiting from San Francisco with her family (husband TO and two cute daughters). JO and family get a house in Venice Beach every summer for about a month and leave the foggy San Francisco August behind. So it is my thrill that it gets foggy in SF in August because every year I see JO here in Los Angeles! JO and I love talking about design.  She has a stunning place in San Francisco. So when we were out to dinner at Osteria Mozza she was telling me she just had some custom headboards made for the girls' rooms. She said she had gone on Nbaynadamas a few times to find ideas...and that prompted me to think...what a good post idea.

Now some two months later...I am finally actually executing said "good post idea". Hmmm...so much for planning and executing...right? Note to self: get a posting schedule together instead of just posting on the fly as you have for the past 3 years (some bloggers are so organized and plan out posts weeks in advance...I plan out posts when I post...makes for a harrowing situation almost every day...knots in my stomach, racking my brain for post ideas and inspiration, the same scene happens every day...uh oh...my OSS has kicked in...(over sharing syndrome)...you don't want to know how the posts get here kind of like you don't want to know how sausage is made...you just want to enjoy and be entertained as you should be...I know...okay...okay...I'll stop blabbing...but maybe if I talk about it...I'll stop doing it...maybe if I expose my inability to plan posts, I will start planning posts...maybe? Oy va voy. I'll stop...LOL!)

Anyhoooooo...here are some wonderful twin rooms and twin room bed ideas. I like twin rooms because they are good kids rooms (boys or girls) or can make for lovely guest rooms. Here we go...

Clean and modern twin bedroom with white walls and floor, the turquoise upholstered beds have a wing back headboard, the orange accent pillows and a green and white down comforter folded across the bottom of the beds add a pop of color.
Clean and crisp...these upholstered beds with wing back headboards make for a smart modern design in a room from Bear Hill Interiors. (above)!

BEFORE & AFTER: MICRO MAKEOVERS - WHAT A LITTLE WHITE PAINT CAN DO!

Dining room chair painted bright white and upholstered with Kelly Wearstler's brown Emerald Cut fabric on the seat
A wonderful dining or side chair painted bright white and upholstered with Kelly Wearstler's brown Emerald Cut fabric on the seat cushion...after the micro makeover (above)

These fab "micro makeover" photos come from Jill Sorensen of Marmalade Interiors in McClean, VA. Jill clearly has a knack and eye for finding an old piece of furniture with good bones and revamping to looking new, chic and oh so in style.

Here are three micro makeovers that Jill dreamed up and that made the world of difference by transforming three pieces of furniture from drab to absolutely fabulous!

Seat before it's makeover with light colored wood and a plain seat cushion
Before micro makeover, the chair was light colored wood and quite bland (above)

The side chair painted bright white and upholstered with Kelly Wearstler's brown Emerald Cut fabric on the seat in a bedroom with a hardwood floor, grey curtains, white nightstand with a framed photo and a lamp with a glass base
After, the side chair is versatile and could fit in so many spaces from bedroom to dining! (above)

Wooden Danish nightstand before it's makeover
Before, a Craig's List find of a Danish nightstand for a bedroom was quite in need of a bit of smart refurbishing (above)

After-the Danish nightstand was painted bright white
After, a few coats of shiny white paint brightens up this bedside table and makes it a versatile piece that could be used in almost any style space (above)

Before makeover: a toile headboard with gold edges
Before, Jill's son picked out this old toile headboard with gold edges to be made over into something that would work for a boy's room (above)

After, the headboard was painted white and the toile was replaced with blue velvet
After, a coat of white paint and dark blue velvet upholstery fabric on this headboard did the trick! (above)

Thank you Jill Sorensen for these amazing micro makeovers! Stunning work!
Readers please send in your micro makeovers. I would love to see and maybe I would feature!

Is there something in your house you are thinking of painting...would a white micro makeover work? Do tell. Also, what do you think of these makeovers!

Ahhhhhhh running late...need to find an outfit that will go be appropriate for work and dinner after work...you know those days when you look in your closet and there is not a thing to wear. Well it is one of those days for me!

Happy Friday!
