ROOM TO LOVE!

Soft blue dining room with a crystal chandelier, periwinkle carved wood geometric relief style mantel, round white Saarinen table with simple traditional wood side chairs, crown molding and a white painted wood floors

Cute dining room...right?

I like it...very delicate. The soft blue, the airy crystal chandelier, the precise periwinkle blue carved wood geometric relief style mantel, the round white Saarinen table with simple traditional wood side chairs, the refined detail in the crown molding and the white painted wood floors - all say delicate to me.  Not frou frou, not overly girly...just decorated with a light touch. Even the flowers are delicate.

Did I say I like it? I meant I love it!  Please excuse.

Very sweet feminine dining room. Wonder if my guy friends would like it though? :-)

Do you like, love, don't care or dislike strongly? Thoughts please.

Happy Tuesday again!

P.S. Your comments on the post from yesterday featuring the $30 million dollar NYC apartment with the fish chandeliers made me laugh...especially the one comment that said "I don't get rich people". Hee hee.

BY HOOK OR BY NOOK!

White breakfast nook with saarninen chairs and banquette leather window seating

Must love a good breakfast nook. Here's one. White, crisp, cheerful, sunny...a nice place to enjoy the first meal of the day. The built in banquette with a seat upholstered in leather from Holly Hunt, paired with the white Saarinen chairs from Knoll make for a comfy and cozy area to spend oh at least an hour drinking tea, reading the paper, doing a nice crossword (that's for my mom, she loves crosswords), plotting and planning out the day.

I would even lunch in this nook too!

What does your kitchen eating area look like? What do you think of this little nook?

Happy Wednesday!

P.S. Great dinner last night at Locanda Verde here in NYC with best of friends Anne and John! New York is so funny. We didn't sit down to dinner until 10p and the restaurant was jam packed. It was Tuesday night!  Also got a chance to see A.Ro and her new guy too when we stopped by Morandi in the West Village.  That place was hopping too late on a Tuesday night.  New York. New York!

P.P.S. Off to a work party (I know...a daytime work party?) for my day job. Am debating between a totally business work appropriate dress or one that is a little more questionable for the work environment but that I love...hmmm...what to do?  The questionable one is from Armani and is almost see-through and has the back out...I know...not appropriate for work but I LOVE it.  My dilemmas are such non dilemmas I recognize.  There are bigger things to fret about and more important issues to focus on for sure...but for today I'll circle around this little dilemma!  Just for a bit...and then I'll get a grip.  LOL!

ARCHITECT-TOUR: NO LIGHT LOST IN AN EAST VILLAGE TOWNHOUSE!

Living room in a New York townhouse with three floor to ceiling paned windows and doors, wood floor, marble fireplace, dueling armchairs, and a grand piano
The main living room of a New York townhouse features three floor to ceiling paned windows and doors that shed light onto this modern city space. (above)

Renowned architect Annabelle Selldorf transformed a five story New York City townhouse from dark and dingy into light filled and glowing. Windows, windows and more leaded paned tall windows and doors plus a huge skylight dome perfectly placed over the central staircase make this city space oh so bright. I love it.

White open kitchen with butcher block countertop, herringbone wood floor, huge arched multi-paned glass doors and window, two white pendant lights, white subway tile backplash, white drawers and cabinets and a white island surrounded by white stools
An all white open kitchen with butcher block countertops and a herringbone wood floor is illuminated by huge arched multi-paned glass doors (above)

Den with white slipcovered sofas, a Saarinen tulip coffee table, zebra upholstered stool, wide planked wood floors, white globe light and a tall window
Double doors lead into a cozy den with white slipcovered sofas, a Saarinen tulip coffee table, zebra upholstered stool, wide planked wood floors all topped off with a nice window that sheds light on the wonderfully breezy decor. (above)

Home office with black desk and white Mac computer, wood floor, walls covered in art, metal sectional daybed with striped red mattress and lots of yellow, white and red pillows and a round black coffee table

Bathroom with colorful marble in the shower area which is also adorned with a standing wood soaking tub, wood floor, and a stand alone tub
Huge colorful marble slabs are used in the shower area which is also adorned with a standing wood soaking tub and a freestanding cast iron bath as well. Oh did I mention there is even a window in the bathing area? (above)

Bathroom with veiny marble for the wall of the sink, pedestal sinks and round mirrors
A wall of the same colorful veiny marble is used on the wall of the sink area creating a dramatic design effect in this designer bath. (above)

This townhouse makes me want to move to New York again. Uh oh. Need to squelch the New York notion for right now...but I can dream...I can dream.

Happy Wednesday all. Am so busy that I can't think. Need to remain positive. It will all get done. Please chant with me...it will all get done.

A MODERN ROOM WITH A VIEW!

Photo courtesy of Bob O'Connor Photography
Modern living room with floor to ceiling windows, two taupe sofas with yellow accent pillows, a Noguchi glass coffee table and a red Eero Saarinen Womb Chair
Floor to ceiling wrap around windows in a mid century modern home provide a great outdoor backdrop. The windows help highlight a bright living room that plays host to some modern furniture classics. A Noguchi glass coffee table and a red Eero Saarinen Womb Chair - both designed in the 1940s - are key to bringing simple modern style to this home's living space. (above)

I like this room. Simple. Modern (am now thinking modern after this weekend's festivities). Refreshing. The floor to ceiling windows are just right. I always believe there can never be too much natural light in a space...especially when the light comes along with gorgeous views. Love the trees and woods - perfectly framed by the slanted roof line. Love the muted whites, the taupe sofa and sectional, and the pops of yellow and reds - an effortless balance of color and neutrals. Ahhhh....
