BATHROOM MIRRORS LOOKING GOOD

I like a nice framed mirror above a bathroom sink.  An easy way to update a bathroom and change the look.    Lots of great unique mirror options means you can customize your bath decor without too much hassle.  I would opt for a framed mirror over the frameless hardware store version. Do you agree?

DESIGN IDEA: A BRIGHT IDEA IN KITCHEN LIGHTING!

I like this lighting look in this modern kitchen. Dark wood cabinets and counters, counter to ceiling white subway tile backsplash, and simple bulb suspension pendant lights dangling from a metal bar that is mounted onto the ceiling.

To me, these simple Edison like bulbs in different shapes and sizes work both in form and function. They look good and they provide sufficient lighting over the kitchen sink work space...makes cooking and cleaning up a little more stylish I think.

A do it yourself (DIY) horizontal bulb light fixture of sorts.

Good idea...and good looking. Simple, clean, modern and a bit of a design surprise.

THIS OR THAT: THE BLACK & WHITE BATHROOM!

Bath 1 - Love the use of black accent tile laid in a graphic pattern in this small white bath. (above)

I am obsessed with all things black and white lately. Don't know why...but I am. I love the idea of using the color combination in a bathroom. A predominately white bath using with touches of black.  Perfection.  Clean. Simple. Stylish.

So today I bring you the black & white bath...and you decide which one you like best...THIS OR THAT?

Bath 2 - Love the stripe black and white marble floor and the narrow pencil black highlight tiles used on the wall in this modern bath (above and below)

Bath 3 - High gloss black paint is used on doors and window trim to contrast against the elegant white marble in this classic bath. (above)

Bath 4 - Half black, half white...polished subway tiles create a two toned look here. (above)

So which of these baths do you like best?  I am gravitating towards Bath 3.  Which do you prefer?  Please weigh in on the comments below!

P.S. Hope you had a fantastic long weekend.  I did. Thanksgiving was great.  Loved seeing family.  Then I managed to get a little COCOCOZY work done too (had to apply for a patent and register several copyrights for my new 2013 designs...I know...the lawyer in me came out this weekend).  I saw some friends. And, I also got some rest and relaxation in too.  A great weekend really!

THIS OR THAT: WHICH MIRRORED BATH!

Is a bathroom sink cabinet the place to add a little design flair to a home? I say why not.


Here are two bath sink cabinets...both have mirrored sink cabinets. One is more classic, the other modern. When taking a design risk...do you try for a traditional interpretation or more contemporary?


Take a look at these two bathroom sinks and you decide in today's THIS OR THAT!

So which of these two bathroom sinks do you prefer and why? Or do you dislike both? I'm thinking I like the second one best. I want to know what you think!

P.S. Had fun drinks last night with HW at The Churchill, a newer restaurant, here in Los Angeles. It was so fun to catch up.

P.P.S. So I dropped my phone the other day and the screen cracked. When I called to get a new one...I learned that I had been paying monthly phone insurance of $6.99/mo for the last year that covered a damaged phone. I thought "Score!...My phone is covered". Well I later found out that the "phone insurance" requires a deductible of $199! Oy vey. Needless to say, I'll be walking around with a cracked Blackberry until the end of May when I'm allowed to get a new one! Yoohooo...since when does phone insurance cost more than the phone itself! My luck.

AN bath and bathroom, BATH WEEK, sink, THIS OR THAT, traditional bath

WEEKEND PHOTO!

A place dedicated to cutting flowers and potting small plants.  That is one area on the list of spaces to add to my dream house.  A little nook where I could bring flowers in from my garden, cut them neatly and arrange them beautifully.  A farmhouse sink that is wide and deep, some shelving above and a nice high faucet.  That sounds about right.

I like the stone sink above with its Carrara marble backsplash. This would be so lovely. More on the romantic country side than my normal design style but a beautiful bunch of flowers would bring out the romantic country point of view in anyone! Getting me thinking...I've just got to get my garden ready for spring...no sink yet but I must have pretty flowers outside!

Where do you cut flowers in your house?  I currently use my kitchen sink.  Where do you like to arrange yours?  Either of these two areas work for you?

Nice view into a lovely white bath area! Glass interior doors, dark sheer curtains, a fantastic metal mirror, a large basin porcelain sink and the piece de resistance, white painted wood floors.

Wonder if I could recreate this look in my tiny tiny home in the Hollywood Hills? I wonder. Looking into some doors like these right now!

P.S. Had a lovely dinner with SR at Katsuya last night. Only funny thing is that during the whole evening, every one on the wait staff kept stopping at the table to check on us. Turns out SR knows the owners and it seems the staff was alerted to this by the owners!

A LAKE HOUSE KITCHEN!

Love this lake house eat-in kitchen designed by renowned New York architect Gil Schafer.

The kitchen is in a lake side home built in 1919. The home was clearly renovated respecting the history and charm but updated adding modern conveniences and stylish detailing.

I am a little obsessed with built in banquette seating so I'm loving the wrap around built in window bench that doubles as breakfast nook seating.  And the windows...hello!  The corner of  paned windows is magnificent...letting light and cheer stream into this sweet cooking and eating space.  I also am adoring the shiny painted wood floor (looks like a light blue or grey color).


The kitchen has a modern country feel with bead board cabinet doors, a stainless farmhouse sink and upper cabinet interiors getting a lovely dose of lime green color! (above)

What do you think of this lake house eat-in?  Would you want to eat in here?  What might you take...what might you leave?  Please tell.

P.S.  1) I need a lake house;  2) wearing a cute purple Tory Burch dress to work today...have drinks tonight; 3)  Now that Lent is over and I can go back to eating bread...need to show some restraint...difficult; 4) was up until 2:30a dealing with a potential Nbaynadamas client abroad; 5) caffeine essential this morning; 6) back to purple dress, was getting it fitted and the tailor kept looking at my hips and shaking his head...I think he thinks dress is too tight or that I need bigger...dress is size 4...I think it fits just right but we'll see...now I think everyone is looking at hips and shaking head thanks to tailor...lady tailor though thought dress was just right; 7) Juan, my handy guy, rescued my huge market umbrella from my roof on Tuesday...now I need new market umbrella as this one keeps flying out of stand, see Nbaynadamas Twitter feed for pictures of flying market umbrella under Dilemma of the Day; 8) I could go on and on but I will let you get back to your day!  Have a good one dear readers!

TILE FILE: GOING VERTICAL!

Brick like tiles laid on the vertical. Great idea. Here shown in a shades of light grey in a Los Angeles bathroom from Commune Design. The look so finely straddles the line of old school 70s retro while also being fresh and timeless. It fits for this space.

I am obsessed with tile by the way...wish I had more places to tile. I would move every year just so I could re-do a good kitchen or bath with some fabulous floor or wall tiles!

In your bath, what is your ideal look (what kind of tile and how is it laid)?

Running off...have a huge meeting today....have to present in front of all my bosses at work and huge client.   Instead of practicing what I'll say, I'm debating between this cute new fuchsia Nanette LePore dress I just bought this weekend OR a classic black Prada (fyi...I had 4 voice mails yesterday when I left work...FedEx twice, my sister, and Effie from the Prada store here in Beverly Hills telling me they had new dresses in...Prada dresses are clearly my comfort zone...hmmm...thinking I might break out...but is today the day to do it?).  It is a big meeting...wonder what you would do...go bold or go safe?  Will let you know what I decide later today!

SMART DESIGN: A BATH TUB INSIDE A MARBLE SHOWER - OH WHAT A VERY WET ROOM!

These photos were sent to my by San Francisco Bay Area interior designer Kriste Michelini. Such an interesting bathroom concept and I think I can say I have honestly never seen this design arrangement before!

A tub inside of a shower! Whoa! A tub inside a marble shower! Whoa again! A big freestanding tub inside a glass enclosed marble shower! Wow!

Smart idea to save space and to kill to bathing birds with one stone. Why get the whole bathroom wet and soggy when in bath mode...confine it all to one area...a glass enclosed wet room inside of a regular bathroom! Huh...so very very interesting!

This bathroom is actually beautiful with all of the white veiny Carrara marble (subway tiles and mosaic tiles) covering the walls and floors, the grand skylight inside the combo tub shower area, the wonderful modern wood vanity washstand with its marble top, the boxy almost Craftsman looking sconces, and all of the chrome fixtures, faucets and fittings - the luxe simplicity of it all works.

Readers, what do you think of this innovative shower and tub combination? Have you seen something like this before...or is it just me who is this is new to?

BATH WEEK: BLUE & WHITE WORKS JUST RIGHT IN TWO HAMPTONS BATHROOMS!

For no apparent reason it is BATH WEEK on Nbaynadamas (the second BATH WEEK ever)! Just woke up this morning and decided to feature beautiful baths and things that make baths beautiful for the next 5 days (or maybe 7 days if I can come up with enough photos that I like). This BATH WEEK is starting like the last BATH WEEK did...on a whim. So much for precise planning and organization...hmmm....

Normally, I like a clean white bath...simple...no frills...not a place to make a huge design statement but a place for rest, retreat and getting clean! This week, I'll step a bit out of my comfort zone and show you some non-white spaces that have a since of chic and elan.

I like these two baths that I saw in this month's Lonny Magazine even if they are not my classic neutral bath.

These baths belong to the same home owned by two writers who live part time in the Hamptons...they employed NYC designer David Cafiero to help decorate their whole home. I guess drama and films were the inspiration in this house. Drama even leaks over into the bathrooms...

The master bath is the one with the dark blue grey panels and white trim on on all the cabinetry and the walls. And it looks like the one covered in toile wallpaper is a powder room or a guest bath of some sort. I like these spaces. They have visual impact.
