BEFORE & AFTER: A VIRGINIA FAMILY ROOM REDO!

I love a decor before and after.

I like the idea of transforming a space...taking something old, re-purposing it and making it into something new.  Simple concept and it works for me every time.

So lucky me that I got an email last week from Christine K. from Virginia interior design firm JWS Interiors.  Christine was sharing the pictures of a family room in 5500 square foot Northern Virginia that had been redecorated for a family of 4 and their dog.

When the family wanted a fresh modern update to their old den, they called in interior designer Jennifer Wagner Schmidt from JWS to do the job.

Jennifer immediately said good bye to the mustard yellow paint on the walls and changed it out for a neutral gray.  The exposed brick fireplace had also been painted yellow but in the redo the fireplace is put into relief by being painted a bright pure white.  The old traditional furniture was exchanged out for pieces with cleaner more contemporary lines and a striped rug was added in to ground the space making it a pleasant spot to hang out in.

I like the new gray color scheme and the transformation to the fireplace the best...a simple coat of paint makes all of the difference.

SEE THIS HOUSE: A $20 MILLION DOLLAR WEST VILLAGE NYC TOWNHOUSE!

Uhmmm...so it is Monday and maybe I should consider moving to New York!  Just kidding.  Well maybe...no just kidding...maybe?  No no no...just kidding...well...well...maybe?

In all seriousness (sort of) ...I have found a house though that could make me leave my little tiny cottage in the Hollywood Hills for the Big Apple.

Just one thing is holding me back...I'd need to find millions of dollars to snap up this real estate listing.

Here it is.  A little old $20 million dollar, 7200 square foot triplex with 6 bedrooms, 5 full baths, 2 partial baths in the West Village.  This darling home is list listed by Sotheby's International Realty.  The home is located on the brick lined Horatio Street.  This historic townhouse was originally built in 1870 and then in 2012 it got a total makeover and was completely gutted and modernized.

I like...what do you think?

My one essential criteria for any living space is lots of light...lots and lots of light.

Well this $12.7 million dollar New York City penthouse has the right amount of light.

This 5800 square foot Tribeca loft apartment is listed by Douglas Elliman Realty. It boasts 4 bedrooms, 4.5 baths, a wood burning fireplace, wide plank Brazilian hardwood floors throughout and an amazing outdoor space with a garden, deck , outdoor kitchen and great city views.

I love the 16 foot wide skylight that spans above the center of the apartment letting light pour into the space.

What do you think of this apartment? Would you take it or leave it? Do you like the light or is it too much? I would definitely change the decor...and the kitchen and baths...but I think I could live with the bones of this space. You?

P.S.  Last night had a fun dinner at a new French restaurant here in L.A. called Faux Pas.  Was fun trying out a new place.

P.P.S.  Had to be over at COCOCOZY HQ at 7:30am to meet the electrician who is putting up gorgeous new pendant lights in the conference room.  They look good.  (BTW, am calling our tiny new office space in Beverly Hills "HQ" for "headquarters" even though I don't know if a space so small can be deemed a main office of anything).

P.P.P.S.  I am loving my new Yves St. Laurent Trib Too slingbacks.  I got them on sale and the ones I have are navy.  I've worn them almost every day since getting them a few weeks ago.  3-4" heels that are totally comfortable...I know...sounds kooky but it is true!

THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT THIS KITCHEN!

I don't know what it is about this kitchen from Tracery Interiors. This kitchen is a new addition to a 1920's Spanish revival home in Homewood, Alabama. There is something so intriguing about this space so interesting...I don't really know where to start...let's see...I'll try...

First...who has a dish room or maybe modern butler's pantry that is bigger than some houses? The dish room may be the size of the living room in my tiny tiny tiny tiny cottage in the Hollywood Hills! The dish room alone is a place where I could hang out.

Second...I love the wood used for the cabinets...a dark stained rough look. I like it.

Third...the skylight...a kitchen with a skylight...perfect...

Fourth...the interesting almost Moorish cut out shape for the range hood. The stove is hand built from France! Whoa.

Fifth...the massive wood topped island.

Sixth...the Saltillo tile floors...something very rustic about these.

Seventh...the pantry...!

I think I would call this style Modern Moor!

Nice job Tracery Interiors! They have offices it seems in Rosemary Beach, Florida and in Alabama.

SKYLIGHT IS THE LIMIT IN BRIGHTENING UP KITCHEN & DINING SPACES!

I am a sucker for a bright and cheerful space. Sunlight indoors is key to my happiness. In my little cottage in the Hollywood Hills pretty much the entire front of my house is windows - making my way too small house appear happy and light.

A sunny eat in kitchen is essential to me. The place where you cook and dine should have a bit of sunlight...some connection nature and with the outdoors.

Hence this post and these very airy kitchens and dining spaces featuring wonderful skylights. Oh...let there be light...in the form of a skylight...why not? I love the idea of being inside, looking up and seeing not a ceiling but the sky! A window looking up...metaphorically optimistic...practically speaking bringing the outdoors in...love it!
