A LOVELY CONVERTED BRITISH BARN!

open kitchen with extra long dining room table, bench seating, french doors, floor length curtains, and three pendant lights

I think I'd like a converted barn in England as my 8th home. Haven't quite identified or acquired homes 2 through 7 yet but I think a converted barn in the Cotswold region would do just fine as my 8th home. I do.

I like this barn conversion pictured here. It has a decent amount of character but is neutral enough to provide a great backdrop for almost any type of decor. I like the exposed beams in the bedrooms upstairs too.

I also like the soft crushed light throughout.

Take a look...

kitchen with white island, metal stools, white cabinets, bottom freezer and french door refrigerator

living room with fireplace, light grey sofas with white accents pillows with a flower print, an ottoman coffee table and white cabinets with purple acecnts

modern rustic bedroom with exposed beams, animal skin rug, carpeted floors, white wardrobe and two accent table with table cloth and matching lamps

bedroom with two twin beds with white headboards and blue and white striped bedding with matching accent pillows

What do you think of this British barn conversion? Like or dislike. I would love to see what it looked like before!

Happy Wednesday!

P.S. Why do they call barn remodels...barn conversions? I know they are converting the space from one use to another but essentially they are remodeling it...right? Just asking...

P.P.S. Please wish me luck...I have been allowing my dog (the one I rarely mention) to have free reign of my little house during the day. My dog, Mr. Boo, is little but he manages to get into big trouble regularly. I am hoping he hasn't eaten a sofa by the time I get home. I think he is 6 years old now...so he SHOULD be over that chewing phase. It is not clear that he is. Wish me luck. :-)

COCOCOZY EXCLUSIVE: BEHIND CLOSED DOORS AT A CELEBRITY CHEF'S LOS ANGELES HOME!

Was so thrilled when House Beautiful magazine approached me about doing an exclusive preview of one of their stories for the November 2012 issue.

The story is a feature on the Los Angeles hillside home of celebrity chef Alex Hitz.  Now truth be told, I had never heard of Alex Hitz before House Beautiful sent me these photos but did a little research to find out that Alex is a big t.v. chef with a product line on one of those huge home shopping networks.

Apparently Alex decorated his home himself and he jokingly calls his style "Continental Mongrel".  In the article he gives tips on entertaining and hosting parties.  Apparently, Alex hosts dinner parties for over 900 guests at his home every year!  Wow.

I liked the private quarters of the home. Behind the scenes...behind closed doors...probably most of Alex's 900 guests do not get to see these rooms. The bedrooms and powder room in particular are of intrigue to me.  So much texture, pattern and visual interest I think.

My favorite is the ikat on the walls in the powder room.  I like a dressed up tiny powder room.  Anything in any of these rooms catch your eye? If so, what? Do tell?

To see the rest of the home, please pick up the November 2012 issue of House Beautiful - it hits newsstands around October 15th.  Thanks to Sonia for sending me the article and photos!

Happy Tuesday!

P.S. Got some good news yesterday! I am now a proud member of the Soho House here in West Hollywood. If you don't know it, the Soho House is a very chic members only club with locations in London, New York and Los Angeles to name a few of the cities. All of my friends are members but I never made the effort to apply. Finally, last May I decided to put my name in for membership. Exactly four months later, I got the email that I had been accepted. Over the last four months, I waited on pins and needles for an answer. It felt like I was trying to get into a sorority or something. I waited...I emailed nice notes...I called friends who were members and asked questions...and I waited. Finally. Eureka. I was at work (at my regular job) when I got the acceptance email. I literally jumped out of my office, started dancing out at the assistants' desks, ran into my boss's office and gave him a hug and danced some more...all the while my coworkers were looking at me like I had gone crazy (I think I did though...temporarily). Anyhoooo...you'll be able to find me at the Soho House all of the time now!

P.P.S. Worked on fun project last night and this morning...a design challenge that I'm doing in conjunction with a big furniture retailer. I think you'll be able to see my project in a few months. Very excited to see the end result.

P.P.P.S. Does anyone else who lives in L.A. think this weather is weird?

P.P.P.P.S.  Check out COCOCOZY Pinterest too...I've pinned just a few more photos of this exclusive look at Alex Hitz's home there as well.

P.P.P.P.S.  Speaking of social pages...for daily COCOCOZY updates, remember to join the almost 54,000 followers on COCOCOZY Facebook too!

HIGH HOPES FOR STYLING A TWIN ROOM!

Twin bed with high coral colored upholstered headboard with a Chinoisserie print
A high coral colored upholstered headboard with a Chinoisserie print makes a big impact against  sea grass wallpaper in a twin bedroom. (above)

Twin bedrooms are kind of like powder rooms to me....from a decor stand point that is.  A cute small guest powder room has traditionally been the place in a home that interior designers and design enthusiasts use to make a big decor statement with bold wallpaper, daring paint color, exotic finishes, statement tiling, whimsical accessories and more.

Similarly, a twin bedroom, whether it be for guests or kids should be a room in which you take a risk and have some decorating fun.

What better way to make a design statement in a twin bedroom than with a high profile headboard or bed frame?  A taller than normal headboard or bed profile can definitely up the ante in visual impact.

Here are some examples...

Which of these twin rooms do you prefer?  I am having a hard time deciding!  None can also be an answer...if so, how might you style a high profile twin bed!

Happy Wednesday!

TWIN ROOM BED & HEADBOARD IDEAS!

So...way back in August, I had dinner with good friend JO who was visiting from San Francisco with her family (husband TO and two cute daughters). JO and family get a house in Venice Beach every summer for about a month and leave the foggy San Francisco August behind. So it is my thrill that it gets foggy in SF in August because every year I see JO here in Los Angeles! JO and I love talking about design.  She has a stunning place in San Francisco. So when we were out to dinner at Osteria Mozza she was telling me she just had some custom headboards made for the girls' rooms. She said she had gone on Nbaynadamas a few times to find ideas...and that prompted me to think...what a good post idea.

Now some two months later...I am finally actually executing said "good post idea". Hmmm...so much for planning and executing...right? Note to self: get a posting schedule together instead of just posting on the fly as you have for the past 3 years (some bloggers are so organized and plan out posts weeks in advance...I plan out posts when I post...makes for a harrowing situation almost every day...knots in my stomach, racking my brain for post ideas and inspiration, the same scene happens every day...uh oh...my OSS has kicked in...(over sharing syndrome)...you don't want to know how the posts get here kind of like you don't want to know how sausage is made...you just want to enjoy and be entertained as you should be...I know...okay...okay...I'll stop blabbing...but maybe if I talk about it...I'll stop doing it...maybe if I expose my inability to plan posts, I will start planning posts...maybe? Oy va voy. I'll stop...LOL!)

Anyhoooooo...here are some wonderful twin rooms and twin room bed ideas. I like twin rooms because they are good kids rooms (boys or girls) or can make for lovely guest rooms. Here we go...

Clean and modern twin bedroom with white walls and floor, the turquoise upholstered beds have a wing back headboard, the orange accent pillows and a green and white down comforter folded across the bottom of the beds add a pop of color.
Clean and crisp...these upholstered beds with wing back headboards make for a smart modern design in a room from Bear Hill Interiors. (above)!

Twin bedroom with simple brown headboards with off white time, a brown and white graphic print rug, a dark wood chest of drawers, black wall mounted lights and roman shades on the window
Simple brown headboards with bold off white trim compliment the graphic patterns on the rug in this twin room - also love the crisp white bedding!  (above)
