MODERN TRADITIONAL HAMPTONS BEDROOM

Modern-traditional bedroom in the Hamptons with grape vine wallpaper, chevron pattern rug and dotted pillows

Pattern on pattern in this very lovely girly but sophisticated bedroom in the Hamptons designed by Kemble Interiors.  I don't know how to describe this style but I like it.  I think I will call it "Modern Traditional" - an oxymoron in name but when put into play the two styles definitely work!  Very traditional furniture - Queen Anne canopy bed, scalloped bench, the demi lune sofas, Gustavian side chairs and chintz upholstered slipper chair - juxtaposed with modern textiles and prints - with gray vine wallpaper, the wild chevron pattern rug and the dotted fabric pillows.  Yin and yang. Traditional yet modern.

My guy TE is very modern on his take on home furnishings...I have more of an eclectic style that incorporates modern pieces with time tested classics.  Wonder what TE would think of this girly master bedroom.  Hmmm... Is this a girl's girl room or could guys love it too?  Thinking on that.

Oh...did I mention the turquoise blue painted dome ceiling in the sitting area.  Love.

My favorite elements in this space are the wallpaper, the ceiling and the canopy bed.  What do you think?  Like all of the pattern play here?  Do comment below.

Happy Thursday!

FOUR POSTER & CANOPY BEDS - HIGH STYLE

Regal bedroom with a traditional canopy bed

I imagine one day I'll have a guest room with a canopy or four poster bed in it. I like this high style in the bedroom. Something regal and romantic about a bed with so much height to it!

MOUNTAIN RUSTIC BEDROOMS - CABIN FEVER THIS OR THAT

Chic cabin bedroom with a hide rug headboard
1. Chic - Cabin bedroom elegantly decorated with hide rug headboard (above)

Came across a panoply of mountain rustic bedrooms when I was browsing through the portfolio of photographer Audrey Hall.  Got me in the mood for winter coziness.  I am not really a mountain cabin type of girl AT all...but I do love a wonderfully rustic well decorated mountain house.  Love the idea of snuggling up for a weekend stay at a cozy lodge.  Lots of rustic places fall into a cliche...kind of like a lot of country decor...but then there are the stand outs filled with charm, natural materials, design that hearkens back to a time before modern amenities and

Anyhooo...take a look at this selection of mountain bedrooms and let me know which is your favorite.

5. Ultra Modern - A manicured mountain cabin bedroom brings in the rustic with with the canopy bed's fur blanket and flokati rug. (above)

If I had to choose one, I would take the #1, the Chic bedroom. I love the hide rug on the wall behind the bed and the single wood log beam adding a touch of rustic.

Which is your favorite? Do you like mountain style?

Happy Tuesday!

ALL-IN-ONE FARMHOUSE BEDROOM & BATH!

clean and modern canopy bed

I like this bedroom bathroom all in one. I never in my life would think I would ever say it is cool to have a bathroom right in the middle of a bedroom. Somehow though in this farmhouse it works.

Great rustic wood floors, a canopy bed with white fabric elegantly draped around it, a gunmetal gray stand alone tub on top of fantastic patterned tiles all in one room.

It works...for a vacation home at least...it works.

I love love love the floors in this space...the painted tiles are awesome and the grain and color of the wood floors is just rustic enough. I would love a farm bedroom like this!

Happy Monday!

RESTRAINED DESIGN - A WELL EDITED HOME!

Living room with restaind wood floor and a high back bench with a white cushions, a marble fireplace and dueling sofas

When I typed the word "restrained" into my search engine (I am a Google girl all the way), here's what came up as far as a definition:

re-strained
Adjective:
1. Characterized by reserve or moderation; unemotional or dispassionate.
2. (of color, clothes, decoration, etc.) Understated and subtle; not excessively showy or ornate.

Merriam-Webster defines the word "restrained" as "not excessive or extravagant"

Today I bring you a post directly from the pages of this month's Architectural Digest.  A home conceived by renowned interior designer Darryl Carter and architect Donald Loccoco.  I like this house.  Its decor is elegant, simple classic and most of all restrained.

To me "restrained" in decor means well edited.

This home is in the suburbs of Washington D.C.  It would make a very comfortable but stylish family home. Good architectural bones, well curated combination antique and new furniture, a neutral palette...and tah dah.

I'm loving the work of Darryl Carter...I'm not the only one though...his work is always noteworthy it seems! He could be my next design crush...let's see we have Jonathan Adler, Casamidy and now Darryl Carter on the crush list. How many design crushes can one girl have? Anyone? Anyone?

Anyhooo...take a peek at this home.

Dining room with restained wood floor and table, matching chandeliers, white cabinets and panned windows

white kitchen with stainless appliances and restained wood flooring

Home Office/Library with wood panelling, a fireplace, dark wood desk, accent table and coffee table, and a neutral sofa with matching armchairs

Master bedroom with four poster bed, foot stool, with a floor length curtain to separate an arm chair and small desk from the rest of the room

What do you think? Like or dislike? Too restrained or just right? Any ideas here you might want in your home?

Happy Friday!

P.S. I am on a plane right now. It is Thursday night actually. Am in business class (thank goodness). Am heading to New York to show the COCOCOZY home furnishings collection for the fourth time at the New York International Gift Fair. I like the fair...the whole thing - the set up (tiring but fun), the show (time for me to chitter chatter endlessly with people...in my element), and the dismantle (a little sad to see the COCOCOZY booth display go down but it is so cool to watch an entire village of mini showrooms shut down and pack up in a matter of hours). Me and the team (I have a team helping me this time) will set up tomorrow and hopefully just a little bit on Saturday and then on Sunday the doors of the textiles division at the Javits Center open and then COCOCOZY is at market on show! I can't wait.

P.P.S. Am a little tired. Feel a cold coming on. Zicam where are you? Vitamin C...I need you. :-)

P.P.P.S. Friend BN called me today...hadn't talked to him in awhile. He is like an older brother type. :-) We had a good brainstorming session on the COCOCOZY business!

P.P.P.P.S. Had a great dinner the other night before with JO and CS. We went to one of my favorite restaurants in Venice Beach...Gjelina. Nice evening.

P.P.P.P.P.S. Hope you have fun things planned for this weekend! xo

EXPOSING THE DETAILS IN A LONDON APARTMENT! (AND A GLIMPSE OF COCOCOZY IN NANTUCKET)

kitchen with exposed brick, sleek white cabinets and an island with metal countertop and white drawers with long pull
Exposed brick in the kitchen of a London loft apartment! (above)

So the long holiday weekend is about to begin!  Happy Memorial Day weekend! I am so excited for a little time off. Best of friend AM and her hubby JE are going to be in Los Angeles for a week staying with me...they are bringing their adorable kiddies.  A family in my little tiny cottage in the Hollywood Hills.  We'll all be very very cozy! It should be a fun long weekend and a great week too. I have been sprucing up things around the house and on the outdoor living spaces in anticipation of their arrival. Major construction things that only I will notice have changed...but the house looks tidier with a new fence, new gates, new paved side walkway, new side deck, newly painted main deck, a dry walled sky light in the bedroom and a reupholstered den sofa! Phew. Still a lot more to do but am on my way with making the house perfect for summer parties.

Anyhooo...enough about me...and onto this very cute London loft apartment. I like it because of the white washed exposed brick throughout. The brick wall adds so much character, texture and visual interest to the space. I like.

Take a look!

Perfection - a dark wood canopy bed with a trunk at its foot with a brick wall providing the backdrop. (above)

Do you like this apartment? If so what stands out to you? If someone said you could put brick walls in your house or apartment and it would somehow work...would you want an exposed brick interior wall? I would and I would paint it white or white wash it! Please do tell.

Also, I definitely want to know what you are doing this Memorial Day weekend. Any fun plans?

P.S. Got an email this morning that made my day. It came from Jillian Fraker. Jillian is the daughter of Debbie Fraker who owns and runs a chic home furnishings shop in Nantucket named The Lions Paw. Debbie and Jillian were some of the first customers to buy a lot of COCOCOZY textiles to feature in their store last year. Well they sold out in the summer of 2011 and made a very nice order in 2012. We sent their huge shipment off a week or two ago and they just received the shipment (takes a bit for things to get to the tiny island of Nantucket). Jillian sent me an email they liked all of their new COCOCOZY pillows! The email was titled "Crazy for Coco at The Lions Paw - Nantucket" and there were several photos attached of their beautiful store. Here's a look at COCOCOZY in Nantucket.

P.P.S.  Thank you Jillian for sending in those photos.  They made my day!  Glad we made it to you in time for the long weekend.

P.P.P.S.  Readers, I want to hear what you have planned for the long weekend...are you traveling or staying home?  Are you relaxing or getting projects done?  Do share!

THIS OR THAT?: BRIGHT BEDROOMS!

White bedroom with large rustic windows, a wood headboard and blue and white floral bedding

Was able to sleep in a bit this Saturday morning. Felt fantastic!  Woke up at 5:15a when my alarm first went off...woke up again at 6:30a thinking it was Friday and I had to go to work...then went back to sleep and all of a sudden it was 8a.  Ahhh...rest!

Love a comfy bed...and I also love waking up to sunlight.

Which of these two light bright bedrooms do you prefer?

modern rustic bedroom with canopy bed, wood floors, a plaid throw and white floor length curtains

So which of these two rooms would you want to wake up in on a Saturday morning?  Do tell.  Are they too bright or just right?

So I'm thinking...I would like to wake up in the room with the canopy bed and take a summer afternoon nap in the little guest room with the big open windows!  Is that a cop out?  Okay...let me pick.  I think I'd chose the first because of the wonderful windows...the bed is a little small but I love the blue and white coverlet.  So I pick #1.  You?

Happy Saturday!
