WEEKEND PHOTO

Hope you have a happy restful weekend!

This bedroom is simple bliss.  A striped bed spread, diaphanous white drapes, a decorative mirror, pitched ceilings with exposed beams, lots of light and that is it.

I like.

THIS OR THAT: STRIPE TYPES FOR RUGS!

living room modern orange accents, black and white striped rug, white sectional sofa, white bookcase full of books and french doors
Stripe Type 1 - A bold black and white stripe rug in a modern living room provides lots of visual interest. (above)

I like a nice striped rug in a living space. I think stripes are always a classic. Not all stripes are alike however.

In today's THIS OR THAT, I bring you 4 living rooms with 4 different stripe rugs on the floor...you decide which of these striped rugs looks best!  Pick your "Stripe Type"!

library with white built in bookshelves, black and white striped rug, velvet wing back armchairs, round wooden table, black wall with white floor length curtains
Stripe Type 2 - A library reading area in a home features built in book shelves, gray velvet upholstered wing back chairs and a black and white rug to finish off the decor. (above)

living room with blue and white striped rug, white couch with navy and bird printed accent pillows, two ottomans with blue trellis acting like side tables, and a woven ottoman coffee table
Stripe Type 3 - A woven ottoman sits atop a blue and white stripe rug in this cozy living room.(above)

den with plaid walls and a striped rug with exposed beams, leather chairs, fireplace with a trumeau mirror on the mantel
Stripe Type 4 - Wide stripes on a dark blue and white rug, plaid walls, worn in leather chairs, and a large stone mantel combine to make a cozy living room in this French home. (above)
I am liking Stripe Type 2 and Stripe Type 4 the best I think.  These flat weave rugs seem to blend well with their respective spaces...also the color and tone soften the bold stripe pattern.

Soooo...which of these Stripe Types do you like best? Do you even like a stripe rug?

Please weigh in on the comments below.

Happy Thursday!

P.S.  Had a lovely dinner at Cecconi's here in West Hollywood last night.  Had their truffle pizza for the first time.  Can I say awesome?!?  The restaurant is just beautiful in the evening with all of the sparkle lights on the patio.  Check out COCOCOZY Instagram to see the photo I took.

DESIGN IDEA: BACK IT UP IN THE KITCHEN!

close up of kitchen with blue and white stripped backsplash with white floating shelves

I like what Australian design firm Doherty & Lynch did with the backsplashes in these two kitchens.

In the first, they painted a kitchen wall with a blue ombre style stripe on the wall and then installed floating shelves. In the second kitchen below, black and white graphic wallpaper is applied to the wall and then covered with either clear plexi or glass.

Both have big visual impact and are very unique.

Good DESIGN IDEA in my view. Take a look.

What do you think of these desing ideas for backplashes? Like or dislike?

Happy Tuesday!

FRESH!

fresh and clean living room with black trimmed windows, white sofas and armchairs with striped accent pillows, a white ottoman and a fireplace

Fresh.

Need I say more about this cozy living room?

I can't help myself though...I must say a bit more because, as you know, I have a bit of OSS (Over Sharing Syndrome - a term coined by me and my college friends).

Anyhoooo...love the neutral color palette or white, the black trimmed windows and doors, the natural jute or sea grass rug, and most of all I love the striped accessories - pillows, throws and all.  There I said more.

Enjoy!

What do you think of this cozy fresh living room?  Like or dislike?  Is it too white for you or are the stripes just enough to break up the blank canvas?

I like...what about you?

Happy Thursday!

GUEST POST: DESIGNER LIZ JOY ON ALL THINGS STRIPED!

bedroom with upholstered headboard, blue ottomans at the foot of the bed, striped beige and white walls and a chandelier
Meg Braff
Hello Nbaynadamas Readers! I'm Liz Joy from Shorely Chic blog and am thrilled to be a guest on Nbaynadamas sharing my love for All Things Striped.  I write about beach chic design, so the stripe trend happening now is a dream come true for me. I have tons of stripes in my wardrobe and love how prominent and accessible they are becoming in decor. Today, I'll share some of my favorite images of stripes in the home and will end with a shopping guide for a few of my current favorites in the market.

Stripes in the home transcend all styles, from traditional:

Formal dining room with dark wood table, upholstered white chairs and striped beige and white curtains

 to cottage in the bathroom:

House Beautiful
to feminine glam in the bedroom:

to eclectic:

Living room with a large pendant light, neutral armchair, black coffee table and beige and white striped walls

to modern classic:

Phoebe Howard
and of course, to nautical:

As you can see from the images above, stripes can be brought into the home in so many different ways. They can be as bold as painted on the walls, upholstered on furniture, tiled in the bathroom, or as subtle as a simple cushion the couch.

In the shopping guide below, I put together some of my favorite accessories available for purchase on the web for you to incorporate stripes in your home, and even some accessories for your wardrobe:

GUEST POST: FASHION EDITOR MARLIEN RENTMEESTER ON STRIPES GALORE!

Hallway with black and white painted in horizontal stripes, 8 engraved portraits in gold octagon frames and an art deco metal stool with gold cushion
Hallway painted in horizontal stripes in Le Catch blogger and fashion editor Marlien Rentmeester' s home (above)

Yoohooo dear readers...one of my dreams came true...I found someone amazing to guest post on fashion here on Nbaynadamas! Woot woot!

Long story short...friend and interior designer Alison Blumenfeld sent me a link to a new fashion blog called Le Catch the other day...it is fabulous...turns out Le Catch is written by Lucky Magazine's West Coast Editor Marlien Rentmeester. Without knowing a thing about Marlien (I didn't even take the time to read the "about" section of her blog), based on the content alone I immediately emailed Alison asking her to put me in touch with Marlien. I then emailed Marlien, we had a brief chat on the phone and without a blink I asked her if she would guest post about fashion and design here on Nbaynadamas. She said yes...and here we are...

I love what Marlien does because she curates amazing stylish looks...great design ideas for the wardrobe!

Today...I am thrilled to bring you Marlien's first guest post - Stripes Galore....! Woohoo!

BEGIN GUEST POST BY MARLIEN RENTMEESTER OF LE CATCH

I have never met a stripe I didn't like. They're ubiquitous in my wardrobe from my casual Breton t-shirts to luxurious cashmere knits. I even love pairing different striped pieces together. So, it should come as no surprise that stripes have horned in on my home. In fact, I recently painted a dark, small hallway with black and white horizontal stripes (pictured above). The result is eye-catching and timeless. Same could be said of this stripe (on stripe) ensemble below. The trick to combining stripes is to make sure they vary in size and share a similar color palette. I also like stripes with other prints, such as florals, tribal prints, animal patterns or even polka dots. Stripes are anything but boring!

I absolutely love the sweater and the shoes. I love the skirt and bag too.  So I guess I love it all.  Which stripe do you fancy?

Thank you Marlien for a fabulous guest post!  Can't wait to see more of your fashion perspective here on Nbaynadamas!

This guest post just made my Friday!

Happy Friday to you!

P.S. Press alert - Nbaynadamas on DAILY CANDY!:  A Nbaynadamas cotton knit throw is featured on Daily Candy's luxury gift guide - Deluxe Gifts for Giving!  So excited to be featured and among good company with luxury brands like Frette, Hermes and Ralph Lauren.  This little press tid bit made my week!

P.P.S. Remember that cold I was fighting?  Well it won the battle.  So annoying.  Next time I'm going to win.  This cold better watch out and not come back again this winter!  Aside: I think I might be delirious...here I am talking about a common cold like it is a person...oh dear...help me please.

P.P.P.S.  Must think about what I am going to wear today.  With all of this fashion talk...feel like I have to look extra cute. Hmm...what to do...maybe a stripe? :)

GRAY & STRIPES IN A SEASIDE COTTAGE!

Living room with blue and white white striped armchair, reclaimed wood side table, white wicker chair and blue walls with framed pictures of blue fish

Am heading back to the states today...leaving splendid Paris behind.  So I thought I would add in a post of an all American home today!

This design glimpse is from a brand new seasside cottage in Fairfield, CT. The interior spaces were wonderfully designed by Lynn Morgan and beautifully shot by photographer Jeff McNamara.

This "cottage" is 4 bedrooms in 5000 square feet of house...I only wish my tiny little cottage in the Hollywood Hills was a fraction of the size. Just goes to show you there are cottages and then there are "cottages". I would like the kind of cottage that goes in quotation marks...btw...

Anyhoooo...the house is a gray shingle style home with a gray and white theme. Lynn used lots of stripes, bleached and pale furniture and white lacquer beadboard throughout to create a serene elegantly casual family home.

Love the use of grey here and the bold stripes.  These spaces work for me.  Preppy, beachy, traditional with a tiny tiny hint of modern thrown in.  Nicely designed indeed!

Grey living room with grey dueling sofas, a white molded fireplace, a wood coffee table and two blue and white striped armchairs

Dining room with a striped grey and white rug, upholstered chairs around a farmhouse style table with a wicker armchair at the head of the table

Painted wood console table with a painting hanging on a blue grey wall

Butlers pantry with white cabinets with glass fronts, a striped roll up shade, wood floor and wall panel molding

What do you think of this little glimpse of this seaside "cottage"?  Any room you must have?  I rather like the scene with the painting and table...reminds me that good design can be rooted in calm simplicity. What do you think of the gray and stripes?  Do tell!

Happy Wednesday!

STRIPE HYPE FOR SPRING!

Sitting room with a white window seat with lacy cushions, a round wood table holding white hydrangeas in a yellow vase and two bright green, blue and turquoise striped armchairs
Photo: Elle Decor

Coming to realize as of late that I need a good stripe...I don't have any strong stripes in my life right now. Last fall I bought a bunch of striped clothing and returned it, I started a post on horizontal striped walls and never finished it, I thought about designing a striped throw for the Nbaynadamas collection but never got around to it...oh...I do have some striped pillows for my outdoor living room...but that is it on the stripes...I NEED MORE STRIPES IN MY LIFE!

Love the striped chairs in the photo above...they are the perfect accent to the bright little window seat area...the stripes liven up this alcove most definitely.

Stripes are cheery, springy, happy and all other good things ending in y. Stripes here I come.

Do you like stripes? Why or why not?
