The chic new kitchen in Samantha and Barry Nugent's Los Angeles home (above)
Is it weird that I told my friend Samantha Nugent this weekend that I would happily find another house for her and her family to move into so I could move into her newly renovated house right away? Is it weird that when I walked into her newly remodeled home, I immediately started to hyperventilate because I got so excited about how beautiful it looked? Is it weird that I kind of didn't want to leave her powder room with its new blue peacock feather imprinted wallpaper? Is it weird that while visiting, I popped behind their new cozy bar and wouldn't leave? Is it weird that I barely said hello to her husband Barry, who is also my friend, because I was so busy examining the gorgeous kitchen design? Is it weird that I only took a moment to say a proper hello to her gorgeous children because I was too busy oogling over all of the decor details in her home?
Now I ask all those questions but I would prefer dear readers that you do not answer as I know the answer already. Yes, it IS all weird. After this visit, I did officially figure out and confirm that I have turned into a total design geek so it makes sense to a certain extent but it is weird...I know.
Anyhoooooo....this weekend I was fortunate enough to pay a visit to Samantha and Barry Nugent's newly remodeled home in Cheviot Hills, a gorgeous and tony enclave here in Los Angeles. The couple has spent about a year remodeling and restoring their lovely 1929 Spanish style home for their family which includes three lovely children. I visited on Saturday and I can say first hand that the remodel is stunning.
Samantha, armed with a great architect and a wonderful contractor (see credits below), decorated the home herself (no decorator leading the charge). She has impeccable taste...so her home has a certain timeless elegance to it while also feeling quite fresh and modern.
Samantha was gracious enough to let me take photos of the kitchen...so I will stop ooooohhhing and aahhhhing and get right to the reveal...a Nbaynadamas EXCLUSIVE feature on an elegant California classic kitchen!
A large island topped with a grand Calacatta gold - premium marble countertop is the centerpiece of the designer chef's kitchen(above)
A dream picture window lights up the arched Kohler polished metal faucet and fittings. The fixtures here were a must have as this sink area was modeled after the one in the Barefoot Contessa Ina Garten's famous kitchen. (above)
An expansive deep undermount stainless steel sink makes dish washing almost seem pleasurable!(above)
A Viking gas range with a paneled hood to match the kitchen cabinetry all make for a wonderfully picturesque stove area. (above and below)
The kitchen is appointed with every necessity including any home cook's dream...a set of double ovens. (above)
The immense double refrigerator is concealed behind custom paneling (above)
All cabinetry is painted a rich grey which works oh so well with the dark stained wood floors (above)
School house lighting, recessed lights and glossy dark stained wood beams light up the kitchen ceiling. (above)
Reeded glass upper cabinet doors add visual interest to the space. (above)
The crackle finish adds subtle texture to a traditional subway tile...a genius twist on a classic! (above)
A dreamy dutch side door with paned window adds light and whimsy to the sophisticated kitchen (above and below)
A silver Sheffield tray sparkles on the island counter. (above)
Wow! Am speechless and hyperventilating again. LOL! Wow! This is a covet-worthy kitchen indeed!
Thank you Samantha and Barry and adorable kids JN, CN and little SN for inviting me over on Saturday and for allowing me to feature this fabulous kitchen!
Amazing architect Tom Newman of Newman and Wolen (tom@newmanandwolen.com) and brilliant contractor Gregory Greenwood made up Samantha's spectacular design team. VERY NICE WORK!
Happy Monday readers! Hope you enjoy this kitchen exclusive!
