I like this Rhode Island cottage living room from interior designer Kate Jackson. Kate calls the home beach chic and I agree.
I met Kate a few years back at a reception at uber interior designer Michael Smith's gorgeous Los Angeles house. It was a reception for the First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama. I had mentioned on the blog that I might be going to the reception but didn't know anyone...and Kate, a blog reader and designer, wrote me to say she was flying in from the east coast to attend. We ended up chit chatting that evening and it was so nice meeting her. Fast forward to earlier this year when Kate stopped by the COCOCOZY textiles collection booth at the New York International Gift Fair to say hi. So fun making new design friends!
Anyhoooo...here's what I like about this cute cottage...j'adore the mixing and matching of upholstery and fabric. Kate successfully uses 5 different patterns in one small space. First she starts with a neutral palette of a white sofa and off white rug...then she added a pale yellow stripe on the slipper chairs, a coordinating floral on some turned wood armchairs, zebra ottomans and two different graphic modern pillows on the white sofa. A lovely mix and match. What I like is that any of the patterns can be taken away or moved around and it all works. Also, the little blue vintage bathing suit that is framed into some cute wall art says...this is a beach cottage!
What do you think of this little beach cottage living room? How many patterns might you mix and match into one space?
Happy Monday!
