When I remodeled my house last year, the main focus was getting all of the major projects done...kitchen, bath, paint and doors. These are the things most people think of when they are remodeling. What takes design and decor to higher level is thinking beyond the mundane in design.
In this Beverly Hills home, interior designer Betsy Burnham didn't just concentrate on the basics...she took the design up a notch by really focusing on the wall space in the home. Creating art of sorts on the walls by using color, tile and decorative molding.

Two-story entry is painted a dark brown with white trim highlighting he stairs and staircase. A zebra print rug makes a bold statement on the entrance floor. (above)
Using decorative molding on the main wall in the living room to create an interesting geometrical modern fretwork pattern means that art work is not really essential in the space as the walls are already decorated! (above)
For the kitchen backsplash, black and white tiles are set in an alternating horizontal pattern using rectangular porcelain tiles. Dark walnut cabinets, a light color quartz stone countertop and stainless appliances are elegantly neutral and allow the walls to really pop. (above)
A wall in the master bath is tiled from floor to ceiling with white subway tiles providing a nice backdrop for the dramatic stand alone porcelain tub. (above)
A bold turquoise blue and white stripe pattern makes the biggest statement in this young girl's room acting of as headboard of sorts that spans the wall behind the bed and onto the ceiling. A tufted blue chaise lounge chair, bolster neck pillows and a lamp pick up the wall color and tie the room's design together. (above)
