A gift with a purple bow delivered to me in honor of Mardi Gras. (above)
Am back in New Orleans visiting best of friend FF again! Am about to leave for the Grand Ball - a black tie event in honor of the King of Hermes krewe. A krewe is a club of sorts (I think) and each krewe has a bead throwing parade during the Mardi Gras festivities. For the next few days we are going to parties for the Hermes krewe (men) and on Saturday I ride in a parade for the Iris krewe (women). I am supposed to be getting into my evening gown now...have to leave in 30 minutes for the cocktail hour before the ball! Yikes!
So...I have never been to this black tie event before. Over the last few weeks, I've received a myriad of invites and treats from New Orleans. Invitations to parties, luncheons, dinners, after parties, parades...all in honor of the King of Hermes. The King's identity will be revealed tonight at the ball. I can't wait.
Invites and gifts...all part of a celebration in honor of the mystery King of Hermes. (above)
The gift is a pin that ladies who are guest of the King must wear to all the king's functions. (above)
Close up of gold lion pin given to guests of the 70th King of Hermes. (above)
So this is only my second Mardi Gras. Last year, during my first parade ever, I got hit in the head with a bag of dubloons (fake coins) and suffered a minor concussion, then was throwing beads from a float dressed as a lobster, and then proceeded to be front row and center for two days of bead catching ....this year, who knows what will happen...wish me luck.
Laissez les bon temps rouler!

P.S. Am staying in my friend's fab guest house. Will post some photos of that later! WOW!
