ROOM IN CHECK - ROOM TO LOVE 2.21.14

gingham check checkered fabric covered walls in a living room

Am a huge fan of fabric covered upholstered walls...am also a huge fan of anything in a gingham check.  Imagine my delight when I found this little gem of a room...where everything from walls, to windows, to furniture is covered in a black and white gingham check.  Sounds like it would be too overwhelming...but in reality it looks so cute and cozy.

Note to self (and TE)...in future, take a small room and go completely gingham style!

Design non-sequitur...found this adorable knit top and skirt by Narciso Rodriguez to match the room.  Camouflage of sorts for a gingham check room!

P.S.  Just realized I still haven't shared photos from last weekend in Ojai with my guy TE.  Will get to it  this weekend or next week!

ROOM TO LOVE 3.4.12!

Living room with French doors, visible beams, Moorish floor mirrors, two leather butterfly chairs, reclaimed wood stools, light colored herringbone wood floors and a white upholstered sofa

I like this room. In fact, I love certain things about it. The Moorish floor mirrors are what first caught my eye...but there's more including the leather butterfly chairs, the reclaimed wood stool, the light colored herringbone wood floors and the white upholstered sofa give a modern Spanish feel to the space.

What do you think? Like a little or love a lot?

Happy Sunday!

ROOM TO LOVE 10.8.11!

Sitting room with large picture window, two white armchairs, a green upholstered armchair with nail head trip, wood floor and a striped area rug

A picture window if I do say so.  This simple sitting area in a European home mirrors the colors and tones of the outside view.  A dusty brick colored rug complements the ancient building in the background, the avocado green armchair reflects the balcony plants and the fresh white vintage chairs echo the lightness and brightness of the sky.  Love the arrangement of clear Moroccan style pendants or lanterns cascading down from the ceiling.  I would like to visit here.  Love this room

Need to get out the door this Saturday morning.  So much to do...so little time...as usual.  Doing a bit of inventory on my vintage collection today and a lot of running around...

I wrote just yesterday on Twitter the following: "I'm learning that the only constant thing in life is the possibility of change" (why I am choosing to create meaningful quotes and philosophize through a tweet is a whole other story)!  One person retweeted my tweet and tweeted back saying "true words girl. (I'll stop using the word tweet now...)

P.S. A mid post P.S again....ooops sorry...wait....does it bug you when people you don't know call you "girl" for no reason?  Like when a stranger says "girl, you should buy that" or "where are you going girl?" I'm on the fence...I think depending on the person I find it a little annoying...okay I understand that there are things that are really annoying in life like bigotry, hatred, meanness, illness...so this "girl" thing I can live with...but maybe I think it is a bit presumptuous too...hmmm...I am a girl and proud of it...but maybe when "girl" is used as a punctuation or a name by someone I don't know at all and who is adding it because they think they are being culturally relevant that is when it bugs me...if you have authentically grown up calling people "girl" then I embrace that and love it, call me "girl" please...or if you are a good friend who uses "girl" for emphasizing a point or as a greeting, I like that too...but, if you don't really know the person and are only adding "girl" here and there depending on the person you are talking to (selective "girling"...meaning you pick out certain people for this because you think you're supposed to call them "girl") and the word is not part of your normal vocabulary (Southerners disregard this of course), that may cause me to twitch a bit....hmmm...let me get over this quickly...there are much bigger things to worry about...maybe I'll try using "girl" in a sentence...here goes...Coco: "well girl I'm going to have to think about what I think about that!"...okay...it wasn't that bad...onto other non dilemma dilemmas....anyhoooooooo....LOL!.

I think change is a good thing and it is also quite universal...something we all experience.

So reason I turned into Twitter's version of the philosopher Descartes last night is that I got an email yesterday evening and I'm not sure what it means but it could mean new beginnings, rolling up my sleeves and getting down to business.  I love Nbaynadamas...so I seem to have lots of energy for the big picture, the details and everything in between.  I've not shied away from hard work so far this year...so why start now?  Rah rah...here we go again...change is in the air....!  Am off an running (literally and figuratively speaking)....

Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Happy Saturday!

P.P.S. I've super sized pictures on the blog here...what do you think?  Too big...?  Just go back a page of older posts and you can see what size the pictures used to be.  Help...not sure I love these huge photos...but I kind of like them.  I've been exploring a lot of fashion blogs lately...you know the ones where the girls (oh there is that word...but I'm using it as a noun not a name) dress up and have pictures taken of themselves in all of these different outfits.  Great fashion ideas...but many of these fashion blogs have enormous photos and I was kind of liking them.  I don't know...I'm always generally confused before I make a decision.  Large photos v. regular photos that is the question (my simpleton version of Hamlet's "to be or not to be" quandry!).

P.P.P.S.  Am going to pull out my Nikon NSR camera today finally - you know it is one of those real cameras that a photographer might use - a Nikon D310 or something...I don't remember.  I bought it back in June but have been so intimidated by all of the gadgets and lenses that it has remained in the box unused.  I don't even really know where it is...so maybe first task will be finding the camera...to do: search closets to find expensive camera that you bought back in June and have never used.  Let me go find this...stay tuned for a camera update!

P.P.P.P.S.  Thank you again and again to longtime Nbaynadamas reader Ruth R. who nicely always corrects my spelling and grammar...fixed it Ruth.  Thank you so much!

P.P.P.P.P.S.  Tweeting from the Rose Bowl Flea Market on Sunday.  Remember to tweet along with me at Nbaynadamas Twitter!

ROOMS TO LOVE - GRAY WITH A HINT OF SHINE!

Bedroom with a fireplace and wood floors, pale purple tufted, wing back headboard, and two marbled nightstands on each side of the bed with silver leaf mirrors. Above the bed is a wall mounted sculpture made of butterflies

I really love these two rooms.  They do have a bit in common -  gray tones and the hint of a metal finish (the silver leaf frame mirrors in the bedroom and the gold floor lamps in the living room below).   Nicely done in my view!

Living room with grey upholstered seating with nail head trim and turquoise accent pillows, a dark grey fireplace with tall brass lamps on each side and white panel molded walls

What do you think of these rooms?  Anything stand out for you?

Happy Thursday!

P.S.  Thank the hundreds of you who have watched the latest Nbaynadamas DESIGN GUIDE audio video post on a few design finds from my quick European vacation.  Sorry for the typos and the editing glitches!  Whooops.  All of my 1st - grad school teachers are cringing with all of my blatant typos and the entertainment executive in me is shuttering at the 1970s nature of the whole post.   Just found out that you cannot correct a video you post on YouTube!  Oy vey.  Well I hope you found the tour of the Ralph Lauren cafe and the quick images of the hotel with the sparkling lobby interesting nonetheless!

P.P.S. Note to self: remember last Note to Self about making sure to double check everything you post instead of forgetting or ignoring previous Note to Selfs ("Selfs" is not a typo here...just didn't know how to make Note to Self plural....would it be Notes to Self or Note to Selves???) and constantly not double checking and constantly finding silly errors that then you forget to go back and correct and then new readers and old readers alike think "So strange that she would have this blog and chose to include so many typos or mistakes...or maybe she's just not that smart?!@#$".  Hmmm...

ROOM TO LOVE!

Soft blue dining room with a crystal chandelier, periwinkle carved wood geometric relief style mantel, round white Saarinen table with simple traditional wood side chairs, crown molding and a white painted wood floors

Cute dining room...right?

I like it...very delicate. The soft blue, the airy crystal chandelier, the precise periwinkle blue carved wood geometric relief style mantel, the round white Saarinen table with simple traditional wood side chairs, the refined detail in the crown molding and the white painted wood floors - all say delicate to me.  Not frou frou, not overly girly...just decorated with a light touch. Even the flowers are delicate.

Did I say I like it? I meant I love it!  Please excuse.

Very sweet feminine dining room. Wonder if my guy friends would like it though? :-)

Do you like, love, don't care or dislike strongly? Thoughts please.

Happy Tuesday again!

P.S. Your comments on the post from yesterday featuring the $30 million dollar NYC apartment with the fish chandeliers made me laugh...especially the one comment that said "I don't get rich people". Hee hee.

ROOM TO LOVE: A LIVING ROOM WITH GOOD BONES AND GREAT STYLE!

All photos in this post courtesy of Meridith Baer & Associates
Living room by Meridith Baer with white coffered ceiling, white fireplace with decorative molding and paneling, tall windows, a long white sofa, white armchairs and modern art on the walls

Great living room decorated by Los Angeles home staging aficionado Meridith Baer. Wonderful blend of traditional and modern. Love the architecture of the room too. The bright white elegant coffered ceiling, the sleek fireplace mantel complete with decorative molding and paneling and the fab tall windows that wrap around the room....good and stylish "bones". Love the decor too...white upholstered sofa and armchairs, the modern art, the turned wood and glass coffee table and all of the accents and details too.

Perfect.

ROOM TO LOVE: MASTERING DESIGN IN A BEACHY CHIC MASTER BEDROOM!

Photos courtesy of Brooke Giannetti of Giannetti Home
Bedroom by Brooke Giannetti with a white chaise lounge, mirrored nightstand, blue table lamp and an upholstered bed

Last week, I came across Velvet & Linen, an interior design blog from Los Angeles based interior designer Brooke Giannetti. So much to love on her website...including this fab bedroom she designed for a client...reminds me of the beach for some reason.

The white room with pops of turquoise and green is perfection...a super stylish master bedroom that is has that perfect blend of modern and tradition all in one space.

Bedroom by Brooke Giannetti with a capiz shell chandelier, white dueling armchairs, a blue tufted ottoman, an upholstered bed with a tufted headboard, and a white chaise lounge

The capiz shell chandelier adds great dazzle to the space...but my favorite piece in the entire room is the oval tufted blue ottoman.

ROOM TO LOVE: COOL KITCHEN!

Photos in post © Eric Roth. Courtesy of Eric Roth Photography.

White kitchen with stainless steel backsplash, island with white marble countertop, modern orange stools and brushed metal pendant lights with orange interior. (above)

Love this kitchen. Clean, modern, bright and cheery. Love the stainless steel counters and stainless steel backsplash on the main cooking wall - provides a great backdrop for the open shelving. The top hinge square upper cabinets add a great modern design element to the room. The orange accents throughout are just right - a splash of color to spice up this picture perfect eat-in kitchen.
