COCOCOZY EXCLUSIVE: BEHIND CLOSED DOORS AT A CELEBRITY CHEF'S LOS ANGELES HOME!

Was so thrilled when House Beautiful magazine approached me about doing an exclusive preview of one of their stories for the November 2012 issue.

The story is a feature on the Los Angeles hillside home of celebrity chef Alex Hitz.  Now truth be told, I had never heard of Alex Hitz before House Beautiful sent me these photos but did a little research to find out that Alex is a big t.v. chef with a product line on one of those huge home shopping networks.

Apparently Alex decorated his home himself and he jokingly calls his style "Continental Mongrel".  In the article he gives tips on entertaining and hosting parties.  Apparently, Alex hosts dinner parties for over 900 guests at his home every year!  Wow.

I liked the private quarters of the home. Behind the scenes...behind closed doors...probably most of Alex's 900 guests do not get to see these rooms. The bedrooms and powder room in particular are of intrigue to me.  So much texture, pattern and visual interest I think.

My favorite is the ikat on the walls in the powder room.  I like a dressed up tiny powder room.  Anything in any of these rooms catch your eye? If so, what? Do tell?

To see the rest of the home, please pick up the November 2012 issue of House Beautiful - it hits newsstands around October 15th.  Thanks to Sonia for sending me the article and photos!

Happy Tuesday!

P.S. Got some good news yesterday! I am now a proud member of the Soho House here in West Hollywood. If you don't know it, the Soho House is a very chic members only club with locations in London, New York and Los Angeles to name a few of the cities. All of my friends are members but I never made the effort to apply. Finally, last May I decided to put my name in for membership. Exactly four months later, I got the email that I had been accepted. Over the last four months, I waited on pins and needles for an answer. It felt like I was trying to get into a sorority or something. I waited...I emailed nice notes...I called friends who were members and asked questions...and I waited. Finally. Eureka. I was at work (at my regular job) when I got the acceptance email. I literally jumped out of my office, started dancing out at the assistants' desks, ran into my boss's office and gave him a hug and danced some more...all the while my coworkers were looking at me like I had gone crazy (I think I did though...temporarily). Anyhoooo...you'll be able to find me at the Soho House all of the time now!

P.P.S. Worked on fun project last night and this morning...a design challenge that I'm doing in conjunction with a big furniture retailer. I think you'll be able to see my project in a few months. Very excited to see the end result.

P.P.P.S. Does anyone else who lives in L.A. think this weather is weird?

P.P.P.P.S.  Check out COCOCOZY Pinterest too...I've pinned just a few more photos of this exclusive look at Alex Hitz's home there as well.

P.P.P.P.S.  Speaking of social pages...for daily COCOCOZY updates, remember to join the almost 54,000 followers on COCOCOZY Facebook too!

KIDS' ROOMS - BED OPTIONS!

traditional wood sleigh bed with pink bedding in a girl's room with a pink canopy and white window
A traditional wood sleigh bed with pink bedding in a cute little girl's room. A good classic bed selection because can easily transition this bed into this little girl's teens with just a change of bedding. (above)

Kids need cute bedrooms too!  Love a well dressed room for a boy or girl and the centerpiece of that room is the bed!  So what to do when picking out a bed for a child's room?  Here are some bed ideas!

Boys bedroom with lime green upholstered headboard, striped carpet and white and wood chest of drawers
A lime green upholstered headboard is the perfect accent in this sporty boy's room. (above)

two sets of white bunk beds with one ladder in a blue room
Bunk beds in white...love the drawers. (above)

Girls bedroom with pink and green upholstered beds separated by a white drawer and shelf divider, each half of the room has the same wall paper in different color, the blinds are lime green striped
These girs have it lucky...full size pink and green upholstered beds in a shared bedroom. (above)
Which of these rooms do you like most for a child (a question for moms and future moms).  I like the idea of shared rooms...so the bunks or the pink and green bedroom work for me (until I was about 9, I shared a room with my sis DS and it was so much fun).  Do you like or do you think a kids room should be more basic (considering they may grow out of it)?  Do tell.

Happy Monday!

P.S.  Was in Puerto Vallarta this weekend for the wedding of TG and AG.  AG is my good good friend and I wouldn't have missed her wedding for anything.  It was absolutely lovely.  It was so sweet to see my good friend walk down the aisle and marry the man she loves!  Very romantic.  She got married on a bluff right on the water right at sunset.  It was so amazingly wonderful.  Congrats to AG and her new hubby TG!

P.P.S.  At the wedding weekend,  I also got to catch up with all my girl friends from around the country including HW, CJ, KD, AL, WH, AS and more.  The weather was gorgeous.  Spent a lot of time at the pool.  No computer with me by the way...it was a nice vacation!

P.P.P.S.  Oh forgot to mention...on the rehearsal dinner night, the bride and groom decided that everyone should do karaoke.  So I had the bright idea that we should perform...so I convinced good friend CJ and the groom's sister who I've known for years to do a rendition of Queen's Boheman Rhapsody...first of all wrong song choice completely...we sounded like three cats in a bag. Out of tune...singing the wrong lyrics...stopping during the middle of the performance and just standing there looking out over the crowd of about 100. During the musical interlude...we broke out into our own impromptu song about the bride and groom...then we would go back to our massacre of the song.    That song is extremely long by the way...so close to 6 minutes after first popping onto the stage...the 3 of us took a bow and ran off.  Our performance was described as "unique" and "interesting" and one woman's husband said nicely, "there was a lot of room for improvement"...another woman said, "Well at least you girls looked cute." Yup. Oh did I mention the groom taped the whole debacle on his iPhone!  Ay yi yi!  Must track down the groom when he gets back and delete that immediately!

WONDERFULLY WHITE BEDS!

White bed with a beautiful carved panel headboard and eyelet bedspread
A white eyelet bedspread with a fantastic carved panel headboard. (above)

Res ispsa loquitur - Latin phrase meaning "the thing speaks for itself" (a term I learned in law school...may be the one of the few things I remember from my law school days!).

A white bed stands for itself.

I LOVE a wonderfully all white bed. Clean, crisp, no nonsense, no frills, relaxing, refreshing...the best.

I have some kind off white linens on my bed right now...I think they are cream (yikes). I have some wonderful white bedding standing by...I'm waiting until spring to bring it out.

Two canopy beds in a bedroom with stone walls and floor with wispy white drapes and white linens

bedroom with iron framed floor to ceiling windows with a view, a large wall with floral wallpaper, a wood floor and a simple white bed
When you have iron framed floor to ceiling windows with a view and a large wall with floral wallpaper, the only answer is a simple white bed. (above)
What do you think of an all white bed? Love or not love? Do you like a blank slate or do you like a little color and pattern? Do you think it is practical? Please advise!

Happy Thursday!

COASTAL LIVING WITH A Nbaynadamas THROW - SHOW HOUSE DECORATING!

A chic window seat vignette with an ocean view in the Coastal Living Magazine showhouse master bedroom includes a Nbaynadamas Logo Throw! (above)
Learned yesterday through your comments (from reader "She's going to the dogs") that a Nbaynadamas throw made an appearance in Coastal Living magazine's October 2011 issue!  The room is in a Coastal Living's 2011 Ultimate Beach House showhouse.  The master bedroom was done by fab Atlanta designer Phoebe Howard.

Back in July, we received a request for a throw through our showroom in Atlanta, Christian Mosso Associates.  We immediately sent in a throw for possible use in the show house...and tah dah a few months later here's the throw in the magazine on page 42.  So exciting to see a Nbaynadamas throw in action.  It is actually one of my favorites and one of the most popular colors...we can't keep them on the shelves!

You should check out this month's Coastal Living to see pictures of the rest of the show house in Norfolk Virginia.  If you want to see the house in person, apparently it is open to the public through November 27th.
Thank you Phoebe Howard for using a Nbaynadamas throw!

Happy Wednesday!

TWIN ROOM BED & HEADBOARD IDEAS!

So...way back in August, I had dinner with good friend JO who was visiting from San Francisco with her family (husband TO and two cute daughters). JO and family get a house in Venice Beach every summer for about a month and leave the foggy San Francisco August behind. So it is my thrill that it gets foggy in SF in August because every year I see JO here in Los Angeles! JO and I love talking about design.  She has a stunning place in San Francisco. So when we were out to dinner at Osteria Mozza she was telling me she just had some custom headboards made for the girls' rooms. She said she had gone on Nbaynadamas a few times to find ideas...and that prompted me to think...what a good post idea.

Now some two months later...I am finally actually executing said "good post idea". Hmmm...so much for planning and executing...right? Note to self: get a posting schedule together instead of just posting on the fly as you have for the past 3 years (some bloggers are so organized and plan out posts weeks in advance...I plan out posts when I post...makes for a harrowing situation almost every day...knots in my stomach, racking my brain for post ideas and inspiration, the same scene happens every day...uh oh...my OSS has kicked in...(over sharing syndrome)...you don't want to know how the posts get here kind of like you don't want to know how sausage is made...you just want to enjoy and be entertained as you should be...I know...okay...okay...I'll stop blabbing...but maybe if I talk about it...I'll stop doing it...maybe if I expose my inability to plan posts, I will start planning posts...maybe? Oy va voy. I'll stop...LOL!)

Anyhoooooo...here are some wonderful twin rooms and twin room bed ideas. I like twin rooms because they are good kids rooms (boys or girls) or can make for lovely guest rooms. Here we go...

Clean and modern twin bedroom with white walls and floor, the turquoise upholstered beds have a wing back headboard, the orange accent pillows and a green and white down comforter folded across the bottom of the beds add a pop of color.
Clean and crisp...these upholstered beds with wing back headboards make for a smart modern design in a room from Bear Hill Interiors. (above)!

MAKE YOUR BED - DREAMY LUXE LINENS!

All photos in this post by Coco of Nbaynadamas
Nbaynadamas throw, shams and boudoir pillows on an elegant white Downtown Company duvet cover in the Christian Mosso & Associates Showroom in Atlant
Graphic patterned Nbaynadamas throw, shams and boudoir pillows on an elegant white Downtown Company duvet cover in the Christian Mosso & Associates Showroom in Atlanta! (above)

Before you go any further...I recognize the last two posts have had the word "dream" in the title.  I am not losing my creative gene nor am I at a loss for words (all who know me can attest to the latter)...I just think the word "dream" has summed up a lot of what I have been experiencing over the last few days.  Wasn't there a song...."dream dream dream....blah blah blah blah blah blah all I want to do is dream"?  Is that right?  I don't know but I think if a song can repeat the word dream a million times in one verse...I can have two posts in a row that say "dream"!  Right? Wrong? Pointless?  I know.  Bear with me.  It is Monday.

So, have spent the last few days surrounded by luxurious linens at the Christian Mosso & Associates showroom in Atlanta. I am thrilled that the Nbaynadamas collection is also in this prestigious showroom amongst a group of amazing textile manufacturers...many of the biggest names in bed linens (all creators of  some of the finest sheets, duvet covers, blankets, pillows, shams and more).

The Christian Mosso & Associates showroom is huge...I think it is 20,000 square feet. Each line of textiles has its own section and its own look...but all work well together. Husband and wife team Christian and Laura Mosso hand picked all of the collections they represent...a "club" of sorts of the best of the best in linens.

I've so enjoyed showing my collection for the first time in Atlanta in this showroom.  I have also enjoyed wandering back and forth through the showroom seeing all of the collections...dreaming...coveting...admiring. So many different looks. So many ideas.

The coolest thing about the Christian Mosso & Associates showroom is that there are dozens of bed vignettes to see...all of the different bedding is shown on Corsican metal beds.  I had some fun throwing my Nbaynadamas shams and boudoir pillows on one of the vignettes from Downtown Company.  Was so great to see my bedding "in scene" so to speak.  In January, in addition to my pillow and throw display (see previous post) I hope to have my own Nbaynadamas bed to show as well in Atlanta!

Since I've had so much fun perusing bed heaven in the CMA Showroom...I thought I would let you take a peek and pick your favorite bedroom style. If you could chose, how would you make your bed?

P.S.  Have met so many wonderful Nbaynadamas readers in Atlanta...a number of talented women who are in design and who stopped by to say hi.  It has been such a thrill.  Had so much fun talking to Kathryn from Georgia and Denise from Dallas yesterday...among so many others!   I'll be back in the showroom this morning, then dashing around the gargantuan Atlanta America's Mart snapping photos and shopping and then on the hunt in the cash and carry section for a cheap sparkling key chain (will explain later).   Then best of friend JH is driving in from Columbia, SC to have dinner with me tonight.  So excited!  Please stop by the showroom this morning if you are in Atlanta.  I should be there for a few hours.

P.P.S.  To see what others have chosen as their bedding favorites...click on comments below...also go to Nbaynadamas Facebook to see what followers there have chosen too!  So much fun to see which are your favorites in bedding!

P.P.P.S.  Had a lovely dinner with Peter and Jane last night.  A very talented and successful brother sister duo who I work with on a project of mine.  What amazing dinner conversation and such a nice night.  Thank you for dinner Peter!

COLOR WATCH: LILAC BEDS!

bedroom with a light purple quilted headboard with gold trim, white bedding with gold embroidered detail, a brown throw and a nightstand with nail head trim

Who knew? A trend may be underway...lilac beds? Never had thought about this light shade of purple as an option for a bed or headboard...but it seems that most stylish in the design community are onto this lilac bed trend (namely posh New York interior designers Katie Ridder, Christina Murphy and Amanda Nisbet have all used these lavender like beds in their designs)!

I like it actually...a light purple bed. A lilac bed. Paired with white, light grey or a neutral wall behind it and some simple mostly white bedding, I'm thinking a lilac bed kind of works! Modern but romantic...perfect for a guest room or master suite.  Design for thought...

Crate & Barrel - Colette Bed in Lilac - $1699 (Queen bed with light purple linen upholstery and nailhead trim)

Bedroom with white bedframe with purple upholstered head and foot board with link detail trim, white bedding with blue embroidery, a fuzzy blue throw, and blue and white curtains

What do you think of these lilac beds?  Take them or leave them? If you would take a lilac bed, where might it go in your abode?

Happy Tuesday!

Metal powder coated canopy bed with a graphic circle pattern headboard
West Elm - Ellipse Metal Canopy Bed - on sale $499; regular $699 (Queen size. Metal powder coated canopy bed. Graphic circle pattern headboard)(above)
I REALLY like this bed. Haven't done a DESIGN ON SALE DAILY in ages...but this one is definitely worth it. Can imagine this bed in a room with nice high ceilings, simple crisp white bedding, rustic wood bed side tables, a wonderful upholstered colorful turquoise bench at the end and a great sisal rug underneath. I want this.

Happy Tuesday!
