Happy first Friday of 2014.  Here's a lovely little dining room for you to enjoy. Love the gold chairs with the pale green tufted seat cushions.  The red chandelier of course is the piece de resistance of the room.  Nice.

FAUX BAMBOO

Blue and white bedroom with black faux bamboo headboards, white x-benches and a blue and white striped rug
Blue and white island bedroom with black faux bamboo headboards. (above)

I am still loving faux bamboo.  I think a lot of people in the design community may have moved passed this trend...but I am still into this look.  I have a little glass and metal faux bamboo side table in my den...it is the perfect mix of modern and classic to me.

TREND ALERT: GO BIG OR GO HOME - HUGE DINING ROOM PENDANT LIGHTS!

philipe starck's dining room in los angeles with giant pendant light hanging, gray walls, red carpet and louis chairs
Photo by Coco of COCOCOZY (above)
I took the photo above years ago on a house tour in Hancock Park here in Los Angeles. I was overwhelmed by the size of the pendant light that hung above the dining room table. A gigantic white shade looming over a round table. I had never seen anything like this before.

Suddenly, this year I have been coming across photos of GIANT pendant lights acting as chandeliers in dining rooms. The point I am sure is to make a very big decorating statement.  The scale of these immense lights is purposefully sized to dwarf the table and chairs below.  These super big pendants are round, dome or conical.  They are metal, capiz shell, paper, plastic and even fabric. Trying to figure out whether these super sized lights are a trend or if they are simply catching my eye....hmmmm....I wonder...

lisa romerein's dining room with oversized pendant light, reclaimed wood slats wall art, louis xv chairs and a wood table

marie claire maison dining room with oversized dome pendant light, large black, white and yellow eames chairs and dark walls

bo-laget dot se dining room with oversized ikea paper chandelier, gray and white walls, a white table surrounded by white and black

What do you think of these super sized dining room pendant lights? Like or dislike?  I think I like the last photo the best...the white dining room with the large Ikea PS Maskros pendant lamp.  Do you like any of these?  Is this a trend you might follow?  Do comment below.  I want to hear what you think!

Happy Monday!

WEEKEND PHOTO!

Bedroom with a white slipcovered headboard, green floor length curtains, tile floor and a brass chandelier

The weekend is here...who doesn't think of relaxing, sleeping in, taking it easy? Most people do...

I on the other hand have a million design ideas racing through my head as I wake up early and start running around.

Let's see...this weekend's design dilemma...the bedroom...

Thinking of changing out my headboard...wondering if I should go for slipcovered headboard that is plain white (above) or an upholstered headboard with a little pattern to it (below). Hmmm...thinking...

Bedroom with a white upholstered headboard, large window and a white nightstand with a floating drawer

Which do you prefer? Plain or printed headboard?  Please weigh in.

Also, what are your weekend plans? Any designing involved?

Happy Saturday!

P.S.  Once again, I realize the title of the post and the content are off...I know there are two photos and the title is singular...can't self edit...even on the weekends it seems!

P.P.S.  Also, I love the little floating nightstand in the second photo.  What a great space saving idea...attache a nightstand top to the wall.  Smart.

Nbaynadamas FIND: LUSTROUS URBAN CHIC PENDANT LIGHTS!

silver punched metal pendant lights from Zenza

Love these silver pounded punched metal pendant lights from Dutch furniture company Zenza. Just the right amount of luster on these hanging lights...not too silver and shiny and not to matte. Modern Moroccan in style to me...a little dose of these in any decor could work to add some visual texture and cool mood lighting.  The simpler ones like the light shown below are definitely urban chic I think.

Perfect for over a dining table, in a hallway, over a kitchen island, or great lighting if you had a small powder room to illuminate!

Filisky Silver Lamp

What do you think? Where could you see these lights used? Could you ever see these in your style of home?  Take or leave?  Be honest!

ROOM TO LOVE!

Soft blue dining room with a crystal chandelier, periwinkle carved wood geometric relief style mantel, round white Saarinen table with simple traditional wood side chairs, crown molding and a white painted wood floors

Cute dining room...right?

I like it...very delicate. The soft blue, the airy crystal chandelier, the precise periwinkle blue carved wood geometric relief style mantel, the round white Saarinen table with simple traditional wood side chairs, the refined detail in the crown molding and the white painted wood floors - all say delicate to me.  Not frou frou, not overly girly...just decorated with a light touch. Even the flowers are delicate.

Did I say I like it? I meant I love it!  Please excuse.

Very sweet feminine dining room. Wonder if my guy friends would like it though? :-)

Do you like, love, don't care or dislike strongly? Thoughts please.

Happy Tuesday again!

P.S. Your comments on the post from yesterday featuring the $30 million dollar NYC apartment with the fish chandeliers made me laugh...especially the one comment that said "I don't get rich people". Hee hee.

LUSTWORTHY LIGHTING - A MIRRORED FLOWER CHANDELIER!

Flower shaped mirrored chandelier by Made Goods
Made Goods - Fiona Chandelier (Flower shaped mirrored chandelier. 7 lights)(above)

I like this delicate chandelier by Made Goods. So wonderfully light and refined. The mirrored tiles add just a little reflective bling - the right amount of shine and sparkle in fact. Hmmm...maybe I would put this in the hallway of my tiny tiny tiny cottage in the Hollywood Hills. Would it fit? Time to measure I guess! Ooooh or better yet...maybe I should see if I can carry this in the Random Stuff section of the Nbaynadamas shop...love love love.

In the meantime, I see that this beauty is priced at $2695 at Plantation here in Los Angeles. Oh the temptation. Hmmm...the temptation! Lustworthy indeed.

What do you think? Where might you hang this light?

Happy Tuesday!

NO CLUTTER AND NO FRILLS DECORATING 101!

These wonderful photos come from a bright college student/photographer Kara Shurtliff, a fine arts senior with aspirations of being in the photo world when she graduates next spring. Kara mainly shoots portraits and weddings...but most recently just started shooting interiors. This is one of her first interiors shoots!

This three story home belongs to a couple and their baby daughter. The couple's style is very simple - no frills...none...clean...so clean...and no nonsense... really no nonsense. I like it.

All clutter is completely edited out...just the basics with a little design flair thrown in. As you can see, this lesson starts with basic good bones - very white walls with dark brown ebony wood floors. Then, throw in the essentials as far as furniture - sofas and chairs in white, tables and beds. Next, add in a few stylish accessories like the union jack pillow in the living room and the great chandelier in the nursery to bring in an element of posh design. Lastly, add a dose of few surprising pops of color and pattern here and there; here they sparingly added color into the mix like the red and white brocade wallpaper in the powder room, the fabulous blue laundry room cabinets and yellow round rug and the pale pink nursery and art that almost give off a slightly neon hue, to give a sense that the space doesn't just happen to look buttoned up but that it was in fact "decorated".

Below, please see a basic lesson in how home decor can be effective and not that complicated...No Frills No Clutter Decorating 101!

Lesson 1: Keep kitchen simple. White tall cabinetry flush to ceiling, stainless steel appliances, simple counter tops, white basic island stools.(above)

Lesson 2: Have fun with color in a normally drab space like a laundry room. Blue cabinets and a yellow rug make this small space a delight. (above and below)

Lesson 3: If there are any frills in no frills decorating, do it in the powder room. Red and white brocade wall paper and a Venetian style mirror make this little washroom feel delightfully designed (above)

Nursery with pale pink walls, simple art, a white love seat, and modern tole chandelier
Lesson 4: Keeping clutter and tons of design frills out of the nursery can make for a very modern and chic baby room. In this case, pale pink walls, simple art, a perfectly positioned love seat, a great white metal modern tole chandelier and of course a simple white crib come together nicely to create a very cool space for baby. Lucky baby. (above and below)

Master bedroom with wrought iron bed, white quilted bedspread, yellow quilted pillow and simple white side tables
Lesson 5: A master bedroom is for sleeping not for staring at decor knick knacks. Take a basic wrought iron bed, a white almost quilted bedspread, a yellow quilted pillow and some simple side tables...and voila...you are done. (above)

Sitting area in the masterbedroom with white slip covered armchair with a pink brocade accent pillow, fireplace with a picture of Paris in a pink frame
Lesson 6: Add subtle accent colors and repeat them. In the master bedroom sitting area, the pillow on the chair. The frame of the artwork on the mantel. They compliment each other. (above)

Lesson 7: Make the master bathroom a spa retreat by keeping all of the bells and whistles down to a minimum. A crystal chandelier + stand alone claw foot tub + large hexagon mosaic tiles on the floor + neutral wall color + half paneled walls = done! (above)

If you follow this simple lesson plan, you too could get an "A" in No Frills Decorating 101!

Thank you Kara for these great photos! I know you will do very well after graduation in your photography career! Really appreciate it!

Dear readers, please let me know what you think about No Frills No Clutter Decorating. What do you like? What don't you like? What have you done in your home's design that embodies "no frills"? Please let me know.

Happy Monday! It is raining here btw! Way to start off the week?!#$^ Anyhooo, happy Monday!

UGLY OR PRETTY? A CAPIZ SHELL CHANDELIER!

 floral capiz shell drum chandelier
Photo: Coco of Nbaynadamas
A floral capiz shell drum chandelier. (above)

I think this chandelier is pretty. Best of friend AM thinks this is ugly.

A capiz shell drum-shaped floral chandelier! Love it! LOVE IT!

When in NY a bit ago, shopping with friend AM...I saw this beauty. AM was off looking at some tables or something and I literally yelled, "AM come over here. AM! Come here! AM come see this GORGEOUS light fixture...it is SOOOOOO pretty." AM walked over, glanced up and said "I hate it...it's ugly." and then she walked off. Hmmmmm....

AM has fabulous taste in decor...so I only feel validated if she likes everything that I like...this time that was not the case.

What do you think dear readers? This is the question I ask you in today's UGLY OR PRETTY?...what do you think? (I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I want the popular vote in this case!). Is this chandelier ugly or pretty? You decide.

If you hate it, please say it...I can take the truth. I can take the truth. I can take the truth. I really can take the truth. I can. (I am repeating that statement so that it becomes true...).

Hope you have a great Saturday!

Nbaynadamas FIND: BRIGHT IDEA FOR A CHANDELIER!

Handcrafted iron chandelier covered with encyclopedia print from Anthropolgie
Anthropolgie - High Minded Chandelier - $998 (Floral eco friendly chandelier. Handcrafted out of iron. Covered with encyclopedia print)(above)

Need to read more. Need to try to be smart. Need to focus on worthwhile causes and issues. Need to engage my mind.

On the flip side...need to not get sucked into mindlessness...endeavors like reading InTouch magazine. Need to not watch shows like the Bachelorette. Need to not care whether Kim Kardashian looks skinny or chunky or when Lindsay Lohan is going to jail.

Well...maybe this smart little chandelier would help me with my mind improvement goals. It is a chandelier wrapped in pages from an encyclopedia! Looks a bit like an origami light fixture...like it is created in the old Japanese folk art of paper folding. Do you think this might help me snap out of my frivolity filled stupor?

Well even if it doesn't make me smarter...it is cute.

Have a nice Tuesday!

THE SILVER LINING ON A TRADITIONAL DINING ROOM

Photos: Meg Braff Interiors
Modern-traditional dining room with grey upholstered chairs with white trim, silver chandelier, white fireplace and arched entryways

I'm not a total traditionalist when it comes to decor...not traditional at all. BTW, When Nbaynadamas has been written up, my style has been called "eclectic"..."eclectic" to me always sounds like a bit of a kooky descriptor...doesn't that just mean "all over the place" when it comes to decor? Hmmm....

I think though I do like a mixture of classic and modern - a blend of sorts.

This dining room is totally traditional but I like it - it doesn't adhere to my decor preference of "blending" styles and leaning a bit more towards the bold and modern. It caught my eye though as I was looking through the portfolio of New York interior designer Meg Braff. She is known for making traditional feel young. This does feel like a fresh version of traditional!

Love the silvery greys in this space...I love the rich grey chairs with the white trim and I LOVE THE CHANDELIER!

CHEAP TO CHIC: WOOD AND WINE BARREL CHANDELIERS!

Wine barrel chandelier inside a Los Angeles store
Wine barrel chandelier inside a Los Angeles area store. (above)

So, way back in February, I took this picture above of a chandelier that was made out of a wine barrel. I liked the concept...but didn't really know what to do with it. Thought if I had some big Gothic home with a big Gothic dining room that I might want to hang this HUGE fixture in the middle of said room for even more doom and gloom style drama.

Well low and behold as the months went on I kept seeing these so called "wine barrel" chandeliers all over the place. Seemed it was/is that wine barrel goth is de rigueur in home decor. I actually think the goal is to be rustic chic but to me these look like they belong in an old Gothic castle with a man named Igor being the person charged with lighting them each night.

Don't get me wrong...I do like these chandeliers...the one above was huge and awe inspiring.

So, hence, today's CHEAP TO CHIC...with a few wood beaded chandeliers thrown in for good measure (and because they do not look goth)!
