DRESSING ROOM DOORS - WEEKEND PHOTO

Oh what I wouldn't do for a dressing room with doors like these.  Fretwork carved doors in a closet.  Love! The lace-like detail lets just the right amount of light through.  Great doors.  I also like the glossy paint used on the cabinets, drawers, ceiling and walls in this walk-in closet.  Makes the small space shine.  Nice closet...right?

DESIGNER MARY MCDONALD CLEANSES THE COLOR PALETTE - HOUSE BEAUTIFUL EXCLUSIVE PREVIEW

Designer Mary McDonald has done it again.  This time in a home in Los Angeles.

The project is featured in the September issue of House Beautiful magazine...out on newsstands next week.   I am so thrilled to have the exclusive preview of this Mary McDonald imagined home here on COCOCOZY!  Woohooo!

In this home, interior designer Mary was working for a couple in their early 30's who are both lawyers and have children.  Mary's goal with this project was to lighten and brighten the space.  She is calling the style of this re-imagined house "a clean modern California take on French country with a teeny bit of industrial sparseness".

Apparently before the remodel, the home was dreary and dark.  Mary infused light and life into the home with a soft color palette of ivory, oatmeal, beige, gray, and taupe, with hints of lavender, aqua, and celadon.

For me , the kitchen is the jewel of this home...with Carrara marble counters, white cabinetry, except for the center island which is dark charcoal and then there is the fantastic gray and white chevron pattern floor made in an engineered stone tile.  Love!

The living room is a study of grays, pale blues and taupes on the walls, wood floors and furniture. (above)

Striped drapery and chevron pattern floor add texture to the neutral color palette of gray and white in the kitchen area. (above)

The master bedroom design is an updated French boudoir and completely inspired by Napoleon's Chateau Malmaison outside of Paris. (above)

The dressing room and closet with gray and cream floral wallpaper and mirrored accents including a lovely upholstered mirrored bench. (above)

The neutral color palette even extends outside into the outdoor patio! (above)

WEEKEND PHOTO!

An arched antique French cellar door repurposed as a closet door in a modern Miami apartment. Love this. Taking something old and using it in a new way. Great design idea in my view from fantastic interior designer Darryl Carter.

Anyhooo...this weekend I'm cleaning out my "closet" to a certain extent - a metaphor really...won't be actually physically cleaning anything but I will taking stock of a lot of things...eliminating the unnecessary and making room for bigger and better things. Cleaning out the old...to start making room for the new. That's my weekend plan.  Am really looking forward to a clean "closet"!  New beginnings are always exciting!  Will keep you posted

THIS OR THAT: CLOSET CONFIDENTIAL!

Starting this post with a non sequitur...

True story...

Last night, when I got home after a dinner out with a friend I found a strange delivery at my front door. It was 10pm. When I walked up the stairs to my little cottage...there was a bed on the front stoop. A bed? Yes. A bed. Really it was huge box that contained a large bed frame. I immediately texted a neighbor and asked her if it was hers...it was not. I did not order a bed. I don't need a bed...but for some reason someone delivered a bed to my front door. It looks like it came via FedEx. It was so heavy that I could not bring it in the house and it was so dark I couldn't read the label. This is one of those bizarre things that seems to happen to me on a regular basis. Anyhooo...I'll have CM look into this strange bed delivery situation today. Strange indeed.

Anyhooooooooo...back to design...lah dee dah.

So as you all know. I live in the smallest tiniest cottage in the Hollywood Hills. This means I have barely any closet space. I dream of a walk in dressing area...where I could study my wardrobe options, test out my fashion prowess, a vanity where I could preen and primp before leaving the house. Dreaming indeed. If I did have such a space, would I line the walls with wallpaper? Or would I leave them blank.

Take these two closets/dressing rooms for example...both very girly and feminine...both using wallpaper with a little shine and glimmer to it. Which of these do you like best? That's the question in today's this or that.

I'm liking the vanity dressing area with the butterfly wallpaper the best I think. I love the rock crystal knobs on the drawers.

Which do you like best? Or would you decline these girly closets and go for something more basic sans wallpaper?

P.S.  Our ever so popular porcelain Ginger Jar made the May/June issue of New York Spaces magazine!  For some reason, this little jar has been one of the more popular items in the COCOCOZY Random Stuff section of the COCOCOZY shop...that's the section where I curated a bunch of random home furnishings I love.  I have two of these jars sitting on my fireplace.  They are cute little accents!

BEST DRESSED CLOSET!

I like this dressing room. Elegant, organized, simple, tasteful. Would just die to have a space like this to get ready in the mornings. A space where all wardrobe options are easily viewed. Love the mirrored black high gloss closet doors and all of the storage...and the light...let there be light...a closet with a window! I also like the bench seating in this dressing room...perfect place to toss the latest LBD or to lounge while contemplating your latest fashion look. Oh wouldn't my clothes be happy here!

CLUTTER FREE CLOSET!

Is it possible for something to give you extreme joy while at the same time inflicting a sense of extreme anxiety?

Well that is kind of a rhetorical question because I know the answer is yes. This closet, for example, makes me very joyful and extremely anxious - diametrically opposed feelings all at the same time.

I love this wall closet...organized, manageable, pretty, realistic, the ideal closet for me...open racks, concealed areas, lots of drawers, shoes well organized, clothing well hung...well designed indeed.

While I love this closet, it also gives me total anxiety. Anxiety only because this is my ideal and I am living with a not ideal closet situation right now and in general. This morning, I thought my cleaning lady was coming so I threw almost everything in my closet onto my bed to be reorganized. A heap of black clothing...with some speckles of blue, purple, maroon and white here and there, piled high on my bed. Yikes! In my closet, there are still quite a few clothes, mis-hung, not organized, with heaps of shoes on the closet floor. A mess. P.S. Just realized that my cleaning lady doesn't in fact come today...she comes Saturday (complicated scheduling...some weeks she comes Thursdays and some weeks she comes Saturdays). Oy va voy va voy.




Anyhoooo...I am leaving the pile behind...nothing I can do at this point...off to work and I'll think about it later today (the worst feeling is coming home to a total mess...and the worst feeling I will have...anyhoooo what's a girl to do? Don't answer that either...I imagine the answer my mother would give, "a girl should organize her own closet and keep things neat at all times"...boo).

Sleek modern dressing room with glossy grey custom cabinets! Fab closet design!(above)

I believe this closet is the size of my house. Hmmm....

I like this dressing area. The grey flat front closet doors and drawers are simple perfection. No disorder in this space...closet organizers and closet systems all hidden...the ultimate clutter control. Love the big white pouf in the middle of the space too...perfect for sitting back and thinking about all of the lovely and stylish possibilities that might come out of this space. The hot pink dress is quite cute too!

Hope you have a fabulous weekend and a great Mother's Day (my sister and I are taking our mom to the Polo Lounge at the Beverly Hills Hotel to celebrate...will be a fab mother/daughter day)!!

DESIGN IDEA: NAILHEAD TRIM ON CLOSET DOORS AND VANITY DRAWERS!

This fab dressing room and closet is the work of talented Los Angeles interior designers Todd Nickey and Amy Kehoe. Love the white built in closet cabinetry and vanity table. The coolest thing about this room though is in the detail. Nailhead trim is used to make an outline of the panels on the drawers and the closet doors. This accent on the door fronts takes this room up a level on the design side of things. Clean and simple with a touch of feminine detailing and style. LOVE IT!!!!

Think the same look could be achieved by just taking a normal paneled closet door (or interior door for that matter) and painting along the outside of raised panels.

Some other things I love about the room...love the diamond geometric shapes of the leaded glass window panes, love the way the white shag trellis rug mirrors the diamond pattern in the windows, love the retro looking chaise lounge chair, and love the stylish and diminutive writing desk perfect for penning the perfect thank you note after a great party (arrrghhhhhh...just realized I have a ton of thank you notes to write for all of the New Orleans festivities I attended...!)...overall a fantastic space!!
