WEEKEND PHOTO - A MOROCCAN BEDROOM!

morrocan bedroom with doorway arch, tiles, iron on the window and an animal print rug

A peaceful little bedroom...Moroccan style...complete with the signature doorway arch and some fantastic iron on the window...a nice little retreat.  Good for sleep, slumber, lounging and for taking hours to wake up in the morning.

BRASS LAMP LOVE!

two ceramic lamps with white shades with brass finish
Vintage 1960s ceramic table lamps with brass finish from 1st Dibs. (above)
So I saw these cute brass table lamps above on 1st Dibs.  Unfortunately they were sold by the time I got to them. I'm loving brass accents these days.  A little touch of brass here or there goes a long way in decor these days.

After missing out on the vintage brass beauties, I came across this faceted little light below.  I love it.  Cute size, all brass with a matte finish.  Am thinking this could be good somewhere in my home or at COCOCOZY HQ.   Hmmm.....thinking.
Brass table lamp with matte finish and matching brass shade
Candelabra - Pythagorus Table Lamp - $693 (Brass table lamp with matte finish. Mary McDonald by Robert Abbey. Metal shade)

What do you think of these little brass table lamps? Is the new one here at the bottom a good replacement option for the vintage ones I missed out on?

Happy Friday!

P.S. Last night went to an event at Downtown, a showroom here in Los Angeles right in the design district, with antique and vintage furniture. Brought along good friends JH and DH who are visiting from out of town. JH and I had a blast looking at furniture...while DH, a guy, just stood on the sidelines as we ogled at everything!  Got a chance to say a quick hi to Hector one of the owners of the store and to Degen Penner who is editor at the Hollywood Reporter.  It was a nice quick stop off before we went to dinner.

Speaking of brass...here's a cute 1950's brass chair I ran into at Downtown.  I would change the seat cushion cover but other than that I think this chair is perfection. (above)

P.P.S.  We have "carmageddon" here in Los Angeles this weekend.  They are shutting down a freeway for repairs for the entire weekend and life is supposed to change as we know it.  LOL!  Wish me luck.  I was out of town for the last "carmageddon" here...the one where life did not change as we know it...we'll see!

CHEAP TO CHIC: WHITE LIGHT - GLOWING GLASS TABLE LAMPS!

modern living room with white sofa, dueling armchairs, a zebra print upholstered ottoman with dark wood legs and a white gourd lamp
A white gourd lamp glows in the corner of a modern living room. (above)

I like a white table lamp and I especially love the glow of a white glass table lamp base.

White glass lamps are luminous and light yet opaque enough to feel substantive.  A staple item that can transcend decor styles and trends.  Contrast nicely against colored walls and blends seamlessly in white rooms.  Something to consider if thinking about adding a little light to your home.

Here's today's CHEAP TO CHIC!

Harriet lamp with white milk base

White Murano glass table lamp with white shade by Thomas Pheasant
Baker - Facet Table Lamp -  $2992.50 (White Murano glass table lamp with white shade by Thomas Pheasant)(above)

Do you like the idea of a white glass lamp? Could you use it in your home? If not, what kind of lamps do you like...ceramic, porcelain, metal? What lights you up?

Happy Monday!

ILLUMINATING VINTAGE VOGUE!

1960's blue and white sleeveless shift dress
p.s. - Courreges Knit Sailor Dress - $750 (1960's blue and white sleeveless shift dress)(above)

Hmmm...a little 1950's and 60's vintage flair in fashion and lighting. Loving these dresses and loving these lamps. Shedding a little light on fashion and style from the past that might influence a little home decorating in the present.

Could imagine wearing the striped knit dress this summer in the Hamptons when visiting friend AM or Nantucket with FF (I of course am presuming that I will be invited...hint hint...). The maxi dress is perfect for a spring cocktail party with some fab gold bangles and some strappy metallic shoes and simple diamond earrings. Finally, the little suit is so coquette...I could wear that to a serious business meeting...the dress underneath is sleeveless...I like the look because it is versatile...either lady who lunches at the country club style or feminine business. Love all.

The lamps are pretty cool too. Take a look...

My faves are the maxi dress and the metallic lamp. Love these. Anything you fancy in this mix of vintage vogue?

Happy Thursday!

WEEKEND PHOTO: VINTAGE MERCURY GLASS SHADES - TAKE THEM OR LEAVE THEM?!

Photos in this post by Coco of Nbaynadamas
4 mercury glass light shades at the Rose Bowl flea market in Pasadena

Was at the famous Rose Bowl flea market in Pasadena last weekend...when I happened upon these vintage mercury glass light shades.

I was mesmerized...loved the texture, the glimmer, the silhouette...everything. They would make wonderful pendant lights over a great kitchen island (needed to be rewired), they could be screwed into a lamp base socket and add some glimmer to a living room or dining room. I thought there could be endless possibilities for these shiny wonderful mercury glass shades.

Oh...one problem the guy would not go below $500 for the four.

I didn't take them...

Still thinking about them.

If you had happened upon these beauties, would you take or leave?

I'm curious. What would you have done? I want to know!

I'm running off to another busy Sunday...have been up since 6:00a running around town if you can believe it! I've already been to Long Beach this morning! Hope you have a nice restful day...please take a nap for me!

Happy Sunday!

CHEAP TO CHIC: A GOOD LIGHT BLUE GLASS LAMP IS ACTUALLY HARD TO FIND!

Light blue hand blown Murano glass table lamps by Joe Cariati with white shades
Swank Lighting - Pair of Glass Jug Lamps - $1400 (Light blue hand blown Murano glass table lamps by Joe Cariati)(above)

Was chit chatting via email with my friend AB who just bought a new home in the Pacific Palisades. I was telling him he had to send me photos of his new house for Nbaynadamas and asking lots of other questions about random things that he was artfully dodging (as he has managed to do for years of friendship). All of a sudden in the middle of our discourse (or me nagging him), AB sent an email saying "Where do I get this?" "Get what?" I wrote back and then continued with the barrage of questions. I was so busy with my train of thought that I didn't even notice that he had in fact attached a picture he had seen on Nbaynadamas (it is below). Turns out the "this" was the blue glass jar shaped lamp in the photo a lovely foyer. He wanted that exact blue lamp.

I felt like this was a game show challenge...some kind of scavenger hunt. The gauntlet was thrown down and I took the lamp search on...with a bit of bravado I must add. Of course, excessive bravado or hubris is always followed by a dose of humility...so needless to say, I did not find the exact lamp he was looking for. I did, however, come across several other lovelies.

So, glass blue lamps make up today's CHEAP TO CHIC!

Any of these table lamps appeal to you? I love the first ones at the top. I might be stealing AB's idea and get a pair for my little cottage in the Hollywood Hills.

Happy Wednesday!
