CUTE NURSERY - BABY ROOM DESIGN!

nursery baby room peach drapery drapes gold wallpaper rose flower print bedroom kids ikea ps maskros pendant ceiling light

I like this baby room decor.  A notable nursery in my book.  The peach, blues, gold and white color scheme works too.  I love this gold rose patterned wall paper.  Tres cute.

Simple interior design here.  A nice white crib...a light blue chair and ottoman, peach drapes and a Moroccan inspired pattern navy rug.

P.S.  This past weekend, TE and I got away for a staycation at the Montage Laguna.  It was only about an hour drive from Los Angeles, but for some reason it felt like we were worlds away.  The grounds were just beautiful, the weather was great, the room was nice and the service was impeccable (everyone who worked there was smiling and friendly ALL of the time).  We got there Saturday and hung out by the spa pool before our room was ready for check in and then we left Sunday with a very late check out.  It was fantastic!

BROOKLYN BOUND - A 1200 SQUARE FOOT DUMBO LOFT GETS A $100,000 UPDATE!

Anne Maxwell's nyc loft apartment den with pink lawson fenning chairs, wood floors, and a barn door

This Brooklyn loft belongs to Anne Maxwell Foster, a co-owner in the interior design firm Tilton Fenwick. It was featured on the New York Times website recently.

Maxwell Foster and her husband bought the 1200 square foot 1 bedroom apartment that is located in Dumbo section of Brooklyn for $885,000 last March and then spent almost 3 months updating the space.

The renovation included adding interior barn doors to, transforming a small office into the master bedroom, tearing out the kitchen counters and replacing with Caesarstone quartz counters and changing out cabinet doors...they even transformed a large walk in closet that had a window into a nursery.

After the bones of the space had been renovated...the decorating began.  The designers' goal was to create an inviting atmosphere.

Here's what the updated apartment looks like.

Anne Maxwell's colorful NYC loft apartment's living room with a gray Kravet Medley sofa, armchairs, two side tables with matching ceramic lamps and an Oscar de la Renta coffee table
For the living room, they chose a Kravet Medley Sofa ($5,200), the armchairs were $800 for two on eBay (about $800 and the coffee table is a $6000 Oscar de la Renta piece.

READER SUBMISSION: AN ADORABLE DO IT YOURSELF NURSERY!

nursery with black and white chevron patterned rug, a twin bed with underbed storage and polka dot bedding, Nbaynadamas accent pillows, a white crib and an elephant hamper
Stephanie Tsai's darling nursery for her baby boy features a lovely mix of patterns and complimentary colors. (above)

Congrats to new mom Stephanie Tsai and to her husband on the arrival of their little boy last night!

Stephanie is my p.r. guru.  By day she runs her public relations firm Ink & Press...and who knew this, by night, she has a secret interior designer inside of her.

Was out to lunch with a very pregnant Stephanie the other day talking p.r. stuff and meeting with a magazine editor.  In the middle of the lunch, Stephanie showed me pictures of the nursery she's been working on for her first child.  I saw the pictures and I said "Send them ALL to me right away".  She did and here we are!

Here's what I love about this little nursery:  I love the mixture of patterns, the soothing grays, navy with the pop of yellow.  The bit of whimsy here and there with the mix of patterns and the cute adorable baby touches like the stuffed animals.  Darling.  Well done and Stephanie did it on a budget. I love the roman shades with the border and I also love the day bed with the polka dot coverlet.  It all works! (If you notice, a COCOCOZY Plaid Solid pillow in Navy even made the cut in this cute baby room!)

A DIY nursery that looks like a designer space!  It feels like a soothing place for mom, baby and dad to hang out during baby's first few years.

Take a look.

Stephanie was kind enough to share her resource list with COCOCOZY.  Such cute finds.  Nice work!

What do you all think of this baby room?  If you are a mom, what did your first child's nursery look like?  Any decorating tips for other new moms? If you are not a mom, anything here in the design you might use in an adult space?

Stephanie, thank you for sharing your DIY baby room.  You did an AWESOME job.  Congrats on the arrival of your son!  Can't wait to meet him!

Happy Thursday!

SHOP WATCH: TOTTINI - DESIGN AND DETAILS FOR A MODERN NURSERY!

Inside Tottini's store

Happy Valentine's Day!  Hope you have a  fantastic one. On this day of love...I thought it would be fitting to do a post on baby rooms...people fall in love and then have babies (usually it is in that order I think). So today we celebrate love and I'll talk about decorating a nursery!  Logical...right?  So here we are...

Nestled in the north end of downtown Seattle in the South Lake Union district is the most adorable modern baby store named tottini.  The store is owned by Melissa Maffei and Melissa Van Flandern.  Melissa and Melissa have made the work of soon to be parents very easy by providing useful and delightful furnishings, toys, and necessities fitting for any cozy contemporary nursery.

Anyhooo...I was up in Seattle in the fall for long time college friend AG's baby shower (she's since had a GORGEOUS baby boy btw) with best of friend AM.  We stopped into tottini for a little shopping and of course I had to snap a few photos of this cool shop.

I happen to know owner Melissa M. quite well...I watched her help AG who was nervous about having her first child.  Melissa was calm, reasonable and reassuring in her advice to AG regarding her nursery.  By the time we left the store, I could tell AG felt better about what she needed to get prepared for her baby.  I liked what I heard...Melissa did not put AG on edge by listing a million things she needed...instead Melissa deftly guided AG through some of the essentials of what could help a new parent welcome a baby home.  I liked that.

So for all you new parents or if you know new parents forward this on, I thought it would be nice to hear about tottini and some tips for designing a nursery that works for you...here's today's SHOP WATCH!

I love this little stuffed animal - a striped pink pig - cute! (above)
COCO: How do you help soon to be or new parents sift through what is important?
Melissa and Melissa, tottini owners (tottini): We like to stress to our customer that most importantly, when the baby is born you will need to address just four main areas- a car seat and/or stroller, somewhere for the baby to sleep, somewhere to feed the baby, and somewhere to change the baby. Most of the time the parents will realize what their true needs are once the baby has arrived.

Grey glider ottoman style rocking chair with light blue piping

COCO: What is the biggest piece of advice you could give to someone who is designing their nursery?
tottini: Start with one piece or a couple of pieces that you love and build the nursery around your favorite pieces. We also highly recommend getting a well designed and comfortable glider or rocker since the parents will be spending a great deal of time rocking the baby. Also, the gliders and rockers that we do sell are less traditional and can be placed in any room once it's moved out of the nursery.

COCO: What do you think is "in" for nurseries right now?
tottini: We're seeing more customers purchasing grey and grey/white furniture and then adding splashes of color with fun textiles.

Floating shelves in Tottini's store holding children's books

COCO: tottini is such a cute name, how did you come up with it?
tottini: Oh the name... everyone always wants to know about the name... Before we opened we wanted a name that was fun and unique. We made a list with help from family and friends, and tottini just seemed to work- it was fun, and spoke of "tiny tots". Unfortunately, we didn't realize it was an Italian surname and while the storefront was being built out, a few people thought we were going to be a panini shop!

COCO: How is tottini different from other baby stores in your area or in general?
tottini: We are the only modern children's store in Seattle. tottini offers eco-friendly nursery and children's furniture and other goods with not only great design, but great functionality.

Wooden animal toys in Tottini

COCO: Where do you hope tottini grows in the future?
tottini: tottini would like to become of a resource for parents in our community and online. We will be launching a parenting blog called "totstuff" with guest bloggers from around the country.

COCO: What is the best part about owning a baby store?
tottini: Meeting some great customers and being a part of an exciting time in their life

exterior of tottini

Thank you Melissa and Melissa for letting me tour your fantastic store and thank you for the tips and advice!

If you can't get to Seattle to visit this cute store, no worries, tottini is also totally online...it is a modern baby shop indeed.

Readers, do you have any tips you might add in for designing a fabulous nursery?  Please weigh in.

Happy Tuesday & Happy Valentine's Day!

P.S.  Day 1 of being coy and mysterious:  I mentioned yesterday that this is my month of being coy and mysterious. During the first 13 days of the month I was not too successful in this quest.  Today, on this Valentine's Day...I begin my experiment.  Remember, the reason I am doing this is that I've noticed that those girls who are guarded and cagey and calculated seem to get ahead in life.  I know I won't be able to be calculated, cagey and guarded...but I can try being a little more mysterious and coy this month to see if anything changes.  I know...this is silly...I sound like a 5th grader but you never know...I'm going to give it a try...let's see what happens as I approach the world as a coy person...

P.P.S. Hmmm...blink, blink, blink...I don't know what to write about unless I'm over sharing....hmmm...I hear birds chirping outside...uhmmm...it is sunny? I am frozen in front of my computer.  It is like a comedy.  I come up with a total and absolute blank as I try to think of coy and mysterious things to say.  What do coy and mysterious people talk about?  Help.  Maybe that is just it...maybe they just say nothing?

P.P.P.S. I'm going to try this at work today and see how the new coy and mysterious me goes over...we'll see...

THE HOUSE OF WINDSOR - ALL THAT GLITTERS IS A GOLD TRIMMED BABY ROOM - PART 4!

All photos in this post by Coco of Nbaynadamas
Upholstered day bed in the House of Windor's baby room with gold covering by Kneedler-Fauchere and two gold sunburst mirrors

Hope you had a fantastic long weekend!

As I mentioned, last week, I went to Veranda Magazine's chic cocktail party where the magazine unveiled the House of Windsor - a showcase house designed and realized by renowned interior designer Windsor Smith.  See previous posts for glimpses at the other rooms!

After Windsor designed and had the 8,000 square foot equestrian estate built from the ground up...she and many of her famous decorator friends decorated the rooms.  The house is spectacular in my view.  So much to see.  So many great ideas.

I think my favorite room in the house is the nursery.  Go figure.  I don't have kids yet I was totally charmed by this room and the detail in the space.  Maybe I liked it because it definitely was a baby room but didn't feel cliche in any way, shape or form.

This nursery was designed by Theresa Ghevondian who is a designer working at Windsor's company.  Theresa did an amazing job with this room in my view.  Simply amazing!

I love the crescent moon shaped bassinet or crib from Kenneth Cobonpue's rattan furniture collection.  The gold wallcovering from Kneedler-Fauchere, the gold changing table and the overall vibe of the room.  It works.  Modern yet classic.  Lots of attention paid to detail.  Even with the gold accents...soothing and relaxing.  The paint color is Benjamin Moore's White Dove by the way.  The built in cabinet shelving is lined with Schumacher's "Jungle Play" wall covering.  I love it!

What do you think of this baby room?  I'd be interested what you moms have to say about this.  Is the room functional enough for a baby?  Would the decor work for you?

What a delightful room I think!  Wonderful job Theresa.

Once again, as a reminder to those of you in Los Angeles within the next couple of weeks, you can buy tickets to see the House of Windsor in person.  It is open until July 17th.  I think I am going back next weekend if I can squeeze in a day!

Happy Tuesday!

P.S.  Today, I'm dealing with a traffic ticket (oy), going to the dentist (oy again) and trying to figure out how to get a Nbaynadamas sign made right way for our Atlanta showroom where we are showing the Nbaynadamas textiles collection next week (oy 3) (assistant KS is working on this one...so that oy might disappear very quickly).  Don't mean to sound like a complainer....but am whining a bit.  Will stop.  Maybe I'll try to turn these into a positive...here's my optimistic spin...I learned a valuable lesson with the traffic ticket, I love the dentist because he makes my teeth healthy and makes me look good, we will figure out a sign this morning and get it to Atlanta by Thursday!  There.  I feel less better already!

WINNING TWINS - MAKING TWO BEDS BETTER THAN ONE!

Children's bedroom with two twin beds with lime green spindle headboards, light purple walls, carpeted floor and a white nightstand with lime green drawers
Photo: Moises Esquenazi

Love these twin bedrooms. Perfect for children (boy, girl or even toddler soon to be tot) and/or guests. Oh how I wish I even had an extra room to decorate...for kids and guests alike.

Think these rooms are fab because they all have a bit of whimsy to them and some bold use of color. All show much design can matter in a kid's or guest room.

From fun spindle headboards, to colorful drapes and canopies, to grass cloth covered walls, to a bright Marimekko wallpaper (see last photo), to colorful bedding...these rooms pack twice the design punch of any old single bed bedroom!

My favorite is the first room with the great yellow headboards...forget the guests or children, I might just make that one my own!

Happy Wednesday! (I have the day off from work...yipppeeee)

NO CLUTTER AND NO FRILLS DECORATING 101!

These wonderful photos come from a bright college student/photographer Kara Shurtliff, a fine arts senior with aspirations of being in the photo world when she graduates next spring. Kara mainly shoots portraits and weddings...but most recently just started shooting interiors. This is one of her first interiors shoots!

This three story home belongs to a couple and their baby daughter. The couple's style is very simple - no frills...none...clean...so clean...and no nonsense... really no nonsense. I like it.

All clutter is completely edited out...just the basics with a little design flair thrown in. As you can see, this lesson starts with basic good bones - very white walls with dark brown ebony wood floors. Then, throw in the essentials as far as furniture - sofas and chairs in white, tables and beds. Next, add in a few stylish accessories like the union jack pillow in the living room and the great chandelier in the nursery to bring in an element of posh design. Lastly, add a dose of few surprising pops of color and pattern here and there; here they sparingly added color into the mix like the red and white brocade wallpaper in the powder room, the fabulous blue laundry room cabinets and yellow round rug and the pale pink nursery and art that almost give off a slightly neon hue, to give a sense that the space doesn't just happen to look buttoned up but that it was in fact "decorated".

Below, please see a basic lesson in how home decor can be effective and not that complicated...No Frills No Clutter Decorating 101!

Lesson 1: Keep kitchen simple. White tall cabinetry flush to ceiling, stainless steel appliances, simple counter tops, white basic island stools.(above)

Lesson 2: Have fun with color in a normally drab space like a laundry room. Blue cabinets and a yellow rug make this small space a delight. (above and below)

Lesson 3: If there are any frills in no frills decorating, do it in the powder room. Red and white brocade wall paper and a Venetian style mirror make this little washroom feel delightfully designed (above)

Nursery with pale pink walls, simple art, a white love seat, and modern tole chandelier
Lesson 4: Keeping clutter and tons of design frills out of the nursery can make for a very modern and chic baby room. In this case, pale pink walls, simple art, a perfectly positioned love seat, a great white metal modern tole chandelier and of course a simple white crib come together nicely to create a very cool space for baby. Lucky baby. (above and below)

Master bedroom with wrought iron bed, white quilted bedspread, yellow quilted pillow and simple white side tables
Lesson 5: A master bedroom is for sleeping not for staring at decor knick knacks. Take a basic wrought iron bed, a white almost quilted bedspread, a yellow quilted pillow and some simple side tables...and voila...you are done. (above)

Sitting area in the masterbedroom with white slip covered armchair with a pink brocade accent pillow, fireplace with a picture of Paris in a pink frame
Lesson 6: Add subtle accent colors and repeat them. In the master bedroom sitting area, the pillow on the chair. The frame of the artwork on the mantel. They compliment each other. (above)

Lesson 7: Make the master bathroom a spa retreat by keeping all of the bells and whistles down to a minimum. A crystal chandelier + stand alone claw foot tub + large hexagon mosaic tiles on the floor + neutral wall color + half paneled walls = done! (above)

If you follow this simple lesson plan, you too could get an "A" in No Frills Decorating 101!

Thank you Kara for these great photos! I know you will do very well after graduation in your photography career! Really appreciate it!

Dear readers, please let me know what you think about No Frills No Clutter Decorating. What do you like? What don't you like? What have you done in your home's design that embodies "no frills"? Please let me know.

Happy Monday! It is raining here btw! Way to start off the week?!#$^ Anyhooo, happy Monday!

AM DECO: FABULOUS FABRICS IN A CHIC AND MODERN NURSERY FOR A LITTLE BABY GIRL!

All photos in this post by Coco of Nbaynadamas
Colorful nursery in an NYC loft with stylish prints and florals
AM and JE's colorful nursery for their little baby girl features a well coordinated and stylish array of prints and florals. (above)

This is the nursery that best of friend AM designed in her New York City Soho loft for her little baby girl. AM lives with her very sweet husband JE, their cute son JE Jr. (he is actually JE III but it is easier for me to refer to him as Jr.) and their beautiful 4 month old daughter LE in a very posh well styled home filled with design surprises and lots of color...or should I say pink.

AM loves pink and whenever she gets the opportunity to use it in home decor...she does so in a bold and chic way. So it is perfect that her second child is a baby girl...giving AM the license and freedom to think even more pink!

So this is little baby LE's cute room - a cheery nursery custom made with love and with just the right amount of pink for a little girl.

The key design element to this room are the textiles - bright and bold florals and botanicals mixed with some more traditional prints all make for a delightful mix of texture and color. Regal black and white brocade Roman shades, a lovely fresh pink and white floral on pillows and baby bedding, and a modern black and white floral on custom accessories and bedding all blend to make a unique and well designed space for a baby.

Now...in true AM fashion, I have no details on the fabrics in the room...another mystery post. Today, when I asked AM about where she got the textiles, she said "I told you already, they are Kravet fabrics." Little does AM remember, that about three weeks ago when I asked her about the textiles in the room she said, "I got them at Duralee. I ordered them from there." And to add to the confusion, I'm sure that she doesn't remember telling me four months ago, just before LE was born, that she ordered the fabrics from "some British company online. I'll tell you the exact name of it later. I can't talk. I am at Starbucks right now.". Hence this is another AM DECO Unsolved Mystery. If any of you, or AM herself, has any ideas on the specific names or origins of all of the beautiful prints and fabrics in this room, please do share. Thank you very much.

Fabric sourcing aside, here are some pictures of a wonderfully whimsical AND sophisticated baby nursery as designed by AM in today's AM DECO:

Entry way outside a nursery with dark grey medallion brocade wall decals, a hot pink glass cabinet, and a cowhide rug
Even the hallway outside the nursery is decorated! Dark grey medallion brocade wall stickers (or wall decals), a luxe cowhide rug, a bright hot pink glass cabinet and of course AM's silver pig (an exact match to my own silver piggy) all make for a stylish entry into the nursery.(above)

A stuffed animal - a cute white cow - sits comfortably on a comfy pink and white floral floor pillow. Did I mention that this room did not exist before last fall? AM and JE acutally had a wall built in their New York City loft apartment to create the space that would be their daughter's room. Also, couldn't really show you, but this apartment has GREAT high ceilings too. (above)

Thank you AM and JE for letting me share your nursery with readers. It is just darling.

Little LE is a very lucky little girl!

P.S. Special thanks to good friend AL on this post...I sent a few photos to her for color correction because I took these photos on the fly as I was rushing down to to get my car service to the airport when leaving NY about a month ago. When a few photos were a little dark, AL came to the rescue. AL's Photoshop skills are great (I have no Photoshop skills so anything beyond no skills is great to me btw)! Thank you little AL!
