WINTER HOME LIVING ROOMS - THIS OR THAT

Aerin Lauder's amazing modern ski house! (above)

Snow storms, cold weather, the Winter Olympics on t.v., and did I mention the daytime temperature in Los Angeles hovering in the 60's...clear signs that we are definitely in the middle of winter!  I stepped out of my office in L.A. yesterday and shivered from the cold 65 degree air hitting me in the face! (I was born and raised in Los Angeles, so any temperature below 70 feels icy to me...)

I do not ski...or I refuse to ski...or I would probably injure myself if I tried to ski again.  Last time I went skiing was years ago with best of friend FF in Aspen...it was a comedy indeed...we had an Austrian ski instructor who kept saying to me "Get up...get up out of the snow Coco" and "If you do not go back up on the lift again, you will feel bad about yourself tomorrow."  I spent most of my ski time in a heap of poles and skis on the side of the mountain with 5 year olds swooshing by me with the greatest of ease.

Anyhooooo...just because I don't ski, doesn't mean mean I don't enjoy the mountains during the winter or ski in ski out living.   I spent some time last year at FF and CCF's Bachelor's Gulch home just outside of Vail...ski in ski out...with a jacuzzi...lots of fireplaces and more.  Quite lovely.

Wonder what kind of ski house living room I would rather spend my time in sitting and waiting by the fire watching skiers glide by...a quaint rustic cabin setting or a stunning modern chic mountain home?  So I bring you today a THIS OR THAT...featuring a lifestyle maven Aerin Lauder's modern ski house  living room in Aspen and another cozy classic ski lodge living room...you decide?

THIS

Aerin Lauder's modern winter home in Aspen stunning mountain views from large floor to ceiling windows.(above)

OR THAT

A cute fully wood paneled mountain house living room with stone slab fireplace and window seat. (above and below)

I think I would be most comfy in Aerin's modern ski house living room...simple, uncluttered and spectacular views and love the exposed beam ceiling.

Happy Thursday!

FIREPLACE MANTLES - THIS OR THAT

Fireplace mantle 1 - Traditional Antique Collector -  White subtly striped walls, traditional oil painting and antique clock (above)

Was reading an article on Vogue's website the other day. It is about a townhouse in New York owned by documentary filmmaker Maggie Betts.  Maggie invited former first daughter Barbara Bush and friend Elliot Merck to live in two of the apartments as well.  The each created unique living spaces in a city home with unifying architectural features.

The NYC townhouse features 9 original fireplaces...all unique.  Each apartment has at least one noteworthy ornately carved stone fireplace mantle.

So which of these three fireplace looks do you like best?

Fireplace mantle 2 - Eclectic - Green Blue paint from Farrow & Ball on the walls, a large painted mirror, a Swedish crystal chandelier in the reflection. (above)

Fireplace Mantle #3 - World Traveler - Lavender walls, a tall black mirror, framed portraits of artists Frieda Kahlo and Diego Rivera, and a Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) black and white skull adorn the mantle of former first daughter Barbara Bush. (above)

I am loving Fireplace 2 - Eclectic.  I love the wall color, the grand painted mirror, the small painting leaning against the mirror that is framed by a large modern painting on an opposing wall.  Like!

To see the rest of this townhouse and the three different apartments on Vogue's website, click here!

Which fireplace is your fave?

Happy Thursday!

P.S. Have been helping best of friend AM with her holiday card choices this year.  Every year she sends me photos and layouts for her holiday card.  She finalized the look on Tuesday and ordered.  Then yesterday she and I went at it again on designing another second card look.  When she sent the new card to her husband JE, he wrote us both back and said "Looks great. But I thought this was finalized already?"  Oh JE!  He just doesn't understand that girls like us could deliberate over things like this forever!

P.P.S.  Going to another work dinner with TE tonight.  Must find something that is cute, festive, and business.  Got to run to pick out outfit and to chat on the phone with London best of friend AT (we are cooking up something...a plan...).

P.P.P.S.  COCOCOZY Online Shop 20% off sale ends today - Today is the last day for the 20% off sale on the COCOCOZY Online Shop.  If you have been coveting a COCOCOZY pillow, throw, lucite tray, candle or anything else...now is the time!  Happy Holidays!

NEW COCOCOZY EMBROIDERED PILLOWS DEBUT IN ATLANTA

New COCOCOZY embroidered pillows in shades of blue! (above)

I am so thrilled to introduce you to our latest COCOCOZY partnership - a line of 20 fantastic embroidered pillows!  COCOCOZY for Peking Handicraft pillows debut this week at market in Atlanta!  Wooohooo. Yippeee! Yay!!!!

Peking Handicraft makes renowned designer Trina Turk's collection of oh so popular embroidered pillows and now they are making COCOCOZY's!

These COCOCOZY embroidered pillows will start shipping to retailers this month and hopefully will be available to you in a store or online by August!  The 20 embroidered pillows come in a variety of colorways including navy, light blue, sage, turquoise, red, orange, yellow, black and gray.  We did 6 different patterns!

This week marks the beginning of the summer Atlanta International Home Furnishings Market and COCOCOZY is all over market this year!  For those of you who do not know what "market" is...essentially it is a trade show for home furnishings.  Every July and also January, Atlanta's America's Mart becomes the destination for all things to do with furniture, textiles, bedding and home accessories.  The market is officially only open to press, designers, and stores (major retailers, boutiques and more)...it is the time of year when stores do all of their buying of product and stock for the fall winter.

All of our different COCOCOZY home furnishings collections will also be on display in different showrooms in Atlanta this week! So exciting.  I'll be running around market from showroom to showroom, seeing all of the different COCOCOZY goodies on full display.

COCOCOZY collaborations/partnerships are all showing in Atlanta at market in the same building (240 Peachtree Street, Atlanta, GA):

• COCOCOZY for Capel Rugs (Indo Tibetan hand knotted woold rugs) - Capel Rugs Showroom, Americas Mart Building 1 6th floor

• COCOCOZY Linens for Downtown (bedding) - Christian Mosso Associates (CMA Showroom), Americas Mart Building 1 9th floor

• COCOCOZY for Peking Handicraft (embroidered pillows) - Peking Handicraft Showroom, Building 1 Amercas Mart 10th floor

In Atlanta at the Americas Mart building, we are also showing our own COCOCOZY Collection of luxury custom made pillows, graphic cotton knit reversible throws, lucite trays, candles and lacquer boxes at the Christian Mosso Showroom in Building 1 on the 9th floor.  I'll be there Friday and Saturday!!!

I really love the black on natural linen and the taupe/tan collections below.  I think they would look great mixed and matched on almost any color living room sofa!  Graphic neutrals.

New COCOCOZY Embroidered Pillows in red! (above)

This Maroc embroidered pillow in navy blue is one of my faves from the embroidered collection. (above)

Please make sure to stop by and see the collections at market if you are going to be in Atlanta.  I'll be buzzing about on Friday and Saturday!  I would love to say hi!

Happy Thursday!

P.S.  MY "DREAM SMALL" GUEST POST ON INTERIOR COLLECTIVE - Please head over to Interior Collective blog to check out my guest post on designing small spaces.  I share some key tips on how to decorate a small space effectively.  I really love the kitchen featured in the piece and my favorite tip might help you figure out your living room design!  Browse on over to read my secrets to small space decorating! Would love to hear your secrets too!

P.P.S.  I take the red eye out to Atlanta tonight...don't have a thing packed and got no sleep last night (up until 3:30a this morning)!  Oy va voy.

P.P.P.S.  Oh...I know some might be wondering how the collaboration with Peking came about!  I've known about Peking Handicraft for years (they also manufacture my design crush designer Jonathan Adler's needlepoint pillows).  Last year at market in Atlanta, one half hour before I was heading to the airport to leave town, I basically walked into their showroom with my COCOCOZY catalog in hand and said I would like to do a license deal with them and have them make and distribute COCOCOZY embroidered pillows to retailers around the country.  I know they were a bit taken aback by my brazen approach but about 4 months later we were signing a license deal!  Tah dah! Now, here we are...!!!

P.P.P.P.S.  Can one function on just 6-7 hours of sleep over the course of 2 days?  Help!

P.P.P.P.P.S.  COCOCOZY VP of Operations CM is already in Atlanta.  He'll be over at the Christian Mosso Showroom in AmericasMart Building 1, 9th floor...showing off our new lucite trays and a new offering we have for our throw collection!  Please go by and see him if you can today!

APARTMENT VERSUS ESTATE - OUTDOOR LIVING ROOMS 2

Another outdoor living room face off!  I am all about outside living spaces in the summer.  So this week I bring you two more outdoor living rooms to compare.

Last week the outdoor room choice was City versus Sea.  Most of you chose the sea outdoor deck.

Today, the face off is Apartment versus Estate.

The patio above is outside a New York City apartment.  The decor is sleek with modern white metal furniture, lots of neatly trimmed boxwood and ficus plants and a living wall of greenery.  Well manicured.

The outdoor living room below has softer edges with more traditional decor.  The metal furniture with big fluffy cushion sits under a white pergola.  A large Moroccan style coffee table, lots of cushy decorative pillows and black lanterns finish off the decor.

Which of these two patio living rooms do you prefer?  I feel like if I was having a party I would like the apartment version and if I was having a cup of tea and a good chat with a friend I would enjoy the estate living room.  The question really is though, which would you pick for your home?

Please do tell.

Happy Wednesday!

P.S.  Sorry I didn't post yesterday.  Lots brewing!  :-)  Will keep let you know what is up next week!

FOUR DESIGN IDEAS FOR A SMALL HOME

Idea #1  - Incorporate a sectional sofa instead of a sofa and separate chairs n a living room...this cuts down on the visual clutter but provides extra seating. (above)

I like this little 700 square foot bungalow.  Such a great use of square footage.  Good ideas for those of us who live in a small space!

Idea #2 - Never get rid of built ins - refurbish existing built in cabinets or build new ones...they are great space savers  for storage and can look good too! (above)

Idea #3 - Add in floating wall shelves - floating shelves are great for storage as shown here in this small home office (above)

Idea #4 - Don't be afraid to use color  - This color blocked small kitchen with black floor and counters, white cabinets and red accent wall and door actually make this tiny space quite cheerful! (above)

What do you think of these tips?  Any you might use in one of your smaller rooms?  Any ideas you can share?

Happy Wednesday!

P.S.  I'm still working on that COCOCOZY partnership announcement I mentioned. So excited to share with you my latest collaboration.

P.P.S.  Last night, TE and I went to a party for Nylon Magazine.  There was a dinner in honor of the magazine's Young Hollywood Edition.  Spent the evening chit chatting with lots of cute adorable young Hollywood types. Dinner was followed by a fantastic party at the Roosevelt Hotel.  Thanks to KA and TH for inviting us!  So much fun.

OCEAN VIEW OUTDOOR LIVING ROOM IN THE MDR!

Mirrored wall hangings and an ocean view! (above)

This is TE's lovely ocean view deck...

So to make a short story long...a few weeks ago TE and I started sprucing up his outdoor decks.  He has a gorgeous ocean view in Marina del Rey (the MDR as I call it) - you can see the water view from not just one deck but two!  He is literally about a 1/2 a block from the beach. The sprucing was in preparation for some of his family members and guests coming into town.

I took these photos this morning.  We were up until 1am last night putting up the mirrored wall hangings and then enjoying a glass of wine and some music on the deck.  This morning while taking these photos I looked quite like a clown:  bleary eyed (with some residual mascara or eyeliner around my eyes), a night gown on, a hoodie over it, leggings, Converse sneakers and hair sticking straight up...but I didn't care if any of TE's neighbors saw me...I was doing my own private photo shoot!

Anyhooo...it was gorgeous up there on this ocean view deck this morning...with the sun rising and waves crashing in the distance.

TE's deck with a view of the beach in Marina del Rey! (above)

A planter filled with a gorgeous array of cactus and succulents - TE designed this himself (above)

Corner bench with gray seat cushions and coordinating navy blue and white pillows. (above)

A boxwood plant in a glossy ceramic pot sits on top of a square white garden stool (above)

Two chaise lounges are placed side by side in a nook to create an outdoor bed of sorts! (above)

This project is done...next design project...a little surprise for sis DS at her house and then my house needs to be addressed as far as decor!

To see the before photo of TE's deck...follow me @Nbaynadamas on either COCOCOZY Instagram or COCOCOZY Twitter.  I'll post a few photos in a bit...so follow along so you get the update in your feed.

MARKET FINDS - FURNITURE FROM BUSBIN!

Bow front wood chest of drawers with painted detail. (above)

I want the dresser shown above.  I must have it for my bedroom.  I must.  Need to get rid of my vintage bedroom case pieces and buy new!  I do.  Earlier this week, while at High Point market in North Carolina, on my one hour "walk about" just before leaving to fly back to Los Angeles, I ran into these case goods in a showroom in Market  Square.

They come from a husband and wife owned North Carolina furniture company named Busbin.  I met the owners and they told me they make all of their furniture here in the U.S.... Made in the USA but the pieces have a European appeal most definitely.

I love this dresser....but I would need more than one for storage purposes.  Wonder if they have anything bigger?  Hmmmm...

Also love the other pieces shown here too including the mirrored cabinet.  So cute.

Off white mirrored buffet cabinet with fretwork detail - love! (above)

Wood console table with raised molding detail on the drawers. (above)

Which of these do you like? I must call owners and ask about the dresser!

Happy Friday!

P.S.  Mr. Boo is finally home.  After months and months of being away from home due to construction at my little tiny cottage in the Hollywood Hills and after a little stay in the hospital due to back surgery...Mr. Boo, my little dog (a chin poo - Japanese Chin and Poodle mix) is home.  I picked him up from the klinker (the kennel) on Wednesday and now he is all settled into our house.  He seems happy. Here he is in my den this morning.  Mr. Boo...welcome home.

Mr. Boo, my little dog is home...here he is on my new wood floors in my den! (above)

P.P.S.  TE is in Europe...in Paris to be exact.  He is there for work.  Tough life...right?   He keeps sending me gorgeous pictures.  Wish I was there!  He gets back Monday...can't wait.

TE took this photo in Paris yesterday...Notre Dame...Paris in the spring...oh how amazing! (above)

P.P.P.S.  Am spring cleaning this weekend.  Going to try to get rid of even more stuff.  The nice thing about moving in and out of your house is that you get a chance to see all of the things that are unnecessary...going to do some evaluating and purging this weekend!  My first weekend home after 4 months!  Wooooohoooo!!!!

P.P.P.P.S.  Was buzzing hither and thither last night.  Had drinks with nice MO at the Soho House first.     Then met up with my very cute friends AG, TG, CJ, HW and fab architect Kevin Oreck for a drink out at the Pikey.  A quirky British inspired pub /restaurant in Hollywood.  So fun seeing everyone.

P.P.P.P.P.S.  Hope you have a great weekend!
